  • The flash drive must have a file titled DCIM with your photos in it.

  • There's a reason it's called Camera Connection, not external HDD and keyboard kit.

  • Have u tried formatting ur drive or usb-stick to something iPad likes? Dunno, FAT32 or smthing Mac but not NTFS.

  • it's better to buy Windows pad and use all USB devices, programs without problems. Of you can't read documents from iPad so what for to buy it?

  • what about a wireless keyboard that's not Bluetooth???

  • im looking to buy a ipad but my only problom with it is that i need to be able to right papers which i mostly cary from a usb drive i need some thing to be able to support this.

  • dont go out and by this, you can get bluetooth ones now

  • will the synthstation 25 work via this method ?

  • how about a usb wireless internet dongle lfrom verizon or clear what ever

  • @oooanthonyooo Nope, no network capabilities through the dock on the iPad.

  • Maybe you can use iFile app to browse the hard drive. Watch this video: watch?v=en0gqw9UQNk

  • Does the Camera Connection Kit work for Ipod Touch and if so can I plug usb midi keyboard via powered usb hub? Thanks in advance.

  • @coolshit28 The iPod Touch does not the camera connection kit.

  • Jesus what's wrong with Apple. Fuck sake its like they're in the fuckin dark ages!! People wanna hook shit into their tech and they make it a fuckin nightmare!

  • I would like to ask how about using non-apple keyboard through the camera connection kit, is it work?

  • @lhlalan Yes, many have been successful connecting non-Apple USB keyboards.

  • Do you think a driverless webcam would work the same way?

  • @princesstimai No, no webcam support on the iPad.

  • Would be fucking awesome

if u could plug in an external dvd player, Damn the ipad should have dvd codecs:)

  • i was going to get one of these to use 2 usb devices at the same time .. would that work?

  • @warlockboyburns On the iPad? Maybe if one USB devices was a keyboard and the other storage, it might work together. But otherwise the iPad can only access one drive at a time.

  • Nice Vid...

  • Connect i mean

  • Why do u want to con nest a key board to your iPad if the iPad an onscreen one.

  • BEFORE making such a nice video ^^please check on the internet, or on apple site, all the peripherals you tried work, its just that u have to put your videos and photos into a DCIMM folder like with camera, open the photo app , and voila, your video, photos from external hard drive, USB key or SD card are here. .... so newt time , try to be sure of your statements. but love your video anyway ^^

  • Hey Detroit, there is a video showing ifile externernal drive being used on the iPad, is it possible?

  • You can do this with a Belkin 7 Port Powered USB HUB model FBU237. This video is misleading because it makes an assumption from a single model.

  • hello how are you your video is very cool .. I wanted to ask if the device you use to ipad, can also recognize other keyboards and also would like to know what it is called to buy it now ... your video is a hit ..... Greetings

  • hey can u export photos

  • Comment removed

  • All usb drives will work if they are formated like a camera sd card but it has to be under 32 gb. You can play videos too, but they have to be in a dcim folder, and there title must have 8 characters. trust me it works

  • @DetroitBORG: hi, I know ubs sticks could be connected to jailbroken iPad 1 that installed iFile. So my question is could I jailbrake my iPad 2, install iFile and use a powered USB hub to connect my usb stick to iPad? Does it work that way?

  • @themaufoy There are no mouse drivers in iOS.

  • can i connect the usb flash drive directly to that usb adapter?

  • @ERICALULZ Yes, but unfortunately the iPad doesn't output enough power for many USB flash drives.

  • Where I can get this USB adapter to connect it to my iPad Then connect the USB flash

  • @nawarss Amazon is the best place to get it, that's where I got mine.

  • You can use a jailbroken ipad to view, transfer, and copy files to and from the ipad using iFile.

  • ur HD and usb-flash should be fat 32

also its bcoz the cabacity (maby Ipad cant read mor than 64GB ) so at lest ur HD over 64 GB

i will try to re partion my HD and make 50GB formated FAT32 and but my photos and vid on it thats will help ..but its just one way go ,, i cant transfer from i pad to HD or usb flash

  • the ipad is such a joke...i could live with some usb incopability, even having to use an adapter.

But NO USB STICK??? you gotta be fucking kidding me

  • @allanonmage jealous much?

  • @Intosia yeah, its pretty cool that the iPad is out and it does it. android has all kinds of awesome hardware, but you have to wait on the hackers and developers to really make use of it. I suppose the same can be said of iOS too....

  • @allanonmage I love android have two of them, and now a ipad. And i must say im very impressed by the speed and smoothness of iOS. So i like both now lol.

  • so the iPad supportsUSB host? cool....

  • I can't believe he called is "a USB"!!! FAIL!!!

  • What if you put a DCIM folder on the HD? (fat32)

  • @Intosia I have, and the iPad is incapable of mounting an HDD drive without a jailbreak.

  • @DetroitBORG It is not only that, you need to format the HD and use ifile, i works with external keyboard, Pen drives and HD

  • @DetroitBORG It is not only that, you need to format the HD and use ifile, it works with external keyboard, Pen drives and HDD, mine does it since October last year, but do not update from 3.2 or you will lose the capacity to power them

  • Hey there! I saw your demo with iPad keyboard with all the different iPhones including the the 3G model, which I have. Would this set up work for the iPhones as well? That is, minus the camera kit. Or maybe even a different usb cable keyboard other than Apple set up? I've been looking for a demo like that for a keyboard for the 3G. BTW, your speaking voice reminds me a little of Rod Serling. Thanks!

  • @Warrrenator Unfortunately, the iPods and iPhones can't work with the camera connetion kit at all, so it's not possible to connect any other keyboard besides the iPad Keyboard. It is possible to connect a bluetooth keyboard to certain iOS4 devices, but the iPhone 3G isn't one of them.

  • By the looks of the sleeves, that looks like a really nice jumper. What label?

  • @SamDylanS7 My Sweater? I think think this was Ralph Lauren or Tommy Hilfiger zip-up.

  • Will the griffin simplify still work with the iOS 4.2.1 update?

  • @usachasen Yep!

  • you have to create a folder on the flash drive DCIM then it will work

  • @iHack3 Yes, although iOS4.2 now reduces the power output of the iPad so many USB thumb drives will not work because they require too much power.

  • Thanks for using Simplifi in this video. Interesting! Cheers.

  • I have plug an Acer Aspire Revo USB keyboard (not the wireless one) and works (with iOS 4.2) *without* any additional powered hub... But it's good know that powered usb hubs also works.

  • @alejandrocifuentesh Yes, many keyboards lost the ability to work without a powered hub.

  • Good video I am looking to get a camera kit I guess

  • hmm i wonder what would happen if you replaced a ipads brian with a idiots brain?

  • Have you tried using the powered USB hub on iOS 4.2?

  • @guidobertisch2 No, but there is no reason to believe it won't work considering the behavior of the camera connection kit hasn't changed, just the power output.

  • Every time you say "and I'm back" in these earlier videos, I can't help but think of the eminem song "Without Me". "guess who's back, back again, shady's back, tell a friend, guess who's back, guess who's back"...

  • For the usb flash drive, you gotta completely format the drive. make a DCIM folder and put your photos into that folder :D

  • Use iFile from Cydia. Thumbs up if you know or want to know that you can transfer files from different sources to the ipad. I mean not only pictures

  • but u can't use your usb?

  • but u can't use your usb

  • Have you tried creating a folder named DCIM on the usb flash drive and see if the ipad recognizes it ?

  • @JMGameVideos I did, but that wasn't enough for this flash drive. I had to format it to clear out the OEM software that was preventing it from mounting as a mass-storage device.

  • I didnt have any issue at all using my older (thick white plastic) Apple keyboard through the Camera Connect Kit... You would just need a lower power keyboard and youre good to go.

  • @EricsiPhone Apparently the small aluminium mac keyboard without the number keypad also works.

  • If you jailbreak your iPad and get an app called "iFile" from "Cydia", you can view anything that's on your flash drive.

  • apple is not really generous

  • detroit bog you should make a vidio on that just push down every key

  • hey guys out there you don't need to get some fancy usb power thing when you connect you apple keyboard to your ipad just press down every key and it will connect without saying not enough power thing

  • @mcahneriii Not all keyboards will work properly without a power supply. I have an Apple Keyboard with a numeric keypad and the pop up messages persist intermittently. I have a video on that as well.

  • useless, why buy a 700 dollar " computer device" if you cant connect a usb memory? apple made a big mistake, cant figure out why they wouldn't make the usb fully functional...

  • @persson321 because they wanted to make it thinner, and you can view any usb or potable harddrive with a cydia app called ifile

  • is it possible to transfer mp3?? will it go to the ipod program automatically? thanks!

  • @seisei19 No, music can only be managed via iTunes on a computer.

  • have you tried connecting a camera to the ipad....if yes send me a link..

    thanx man

  • @tdeshpande26 Yes, I've connected the Flip MinoHD and iPhones and iPods to transfer files. Do you mean connecting a camera in order to use it like a camera on the iPad? If so, this can't be done.

  • can u try adding mp4 files to the dcim folder please? I wonder if that would let u play videos. Tks for all ur work :D

  • @bruce280yt If you put video files in the DCIM folder, the iPad will see them and import them. Whether they play or not depends on the specs of the file.

  • I can access all the usb sticks and Hard drives I have tried on my Jailbroken iPad using iFile. However they must be mounted. This can either be done via the console or the much easier way is to have a DCIM file structure on the drive then it auto-mounts. Once mounted you get access to the entire drive contents with iFile, Then the fun starts trying to get the files into your favourite apps. Quickoffice is pretty useful as is supports drop-box and goggle docs.

  • use ifile after jailbreaking it may works

  • i like that usb hub.

  • @cart2334 It's a Griffin Simplifi, I'm actually not a big fan of it ;).

  • @DetroitBORG Why

  • @DetroitBORG It requires an external power supply to work, the build quality is poor.

  • i like ur sweater

  • @ilovemacintosh100 Thanks, it's Calvin Klein I believe.

  • Format USB flash stick as FAT32 to make it work with iPad!

  • @accountforvedios This was in FAT32, but the software on the stick prevented it from operating in mass storage mode so I had to wipe that first. I later did a video on that.

  • Will the camera connector kit work with iPod touch? Have you try plugging a webcam to the ipad?

  • @MissRiot0721 No, you can't import photos to the iPod touch with the adapter. Yes, I've tried a web with no success. I have some videos on my channel demonstrating how this works with other devices.

  • @MissRiot0721 its only for ipad and a webcam wont work but u can import photos from a camera so wats the differance

  • great videos all the time keep up the good work

  • @Simonhp Thanks!

  • have you ever tried formating the hdd? (fat)

  • @DamnedBoyShady Yes, nobody has been able to get it to work without jailbreaking the iPad and some other more advanced techniques.

  • Can u use the delete forward function by the wired keyboard?

  • @punkysuen Great question! I had to test this out, and I'm sad to say forward delete doesn't work! instead of forward deleting, it back delete.

  • Lol alright, you should have said that in the title or the beginning or something! I went through the whole video waiting for you to be like....."BUT (Insert something USB and really cool) works like a charm!"

  • DOES ANYTHING YOU DO ACTUALLY FUCKING WORK?

Why are you making videos of stupid shit that doesnt work?

  • @djkstyless That is the point I'm trying to make, that these things don't work.

  • steve jobs is an idiot why wouldnt he spend the extra few bucks to make 2 or 3 usb ports built into the ipad

  • @p154831 I have to say I really have no use for those connectors on the iPad largely because the iPad iOS can't do enough with them. I'm surprised Apple put these adapters out at all. If the iPad had a built-in SD card slot, then I think it would be more useful in the field (I'm not carrying these adatpers or USB cables around with me).

  • @DetroitBORG i guess so but i mean at least one port? im kinda pissed with my ipod touch because if the battery life continues to decrease and decreaase soon it will be useless and you cant't just pop open the back and get a new battery you have to go to the applestore and get it replaced for a huge fee. also most of my quality headphones dont fit in the ipods jack.

  • @p154831 There are many services out there that will replace the iPod touch battery much more cheaply than Apple. I can't recommend one, but you may want to search online for a reputable one. I know a local shop actually specializes in replacing iPod/Iphone batteries. What gen is the iPod Touch? And why won't the headphones work with the iPod Touch?

  • @DetroitBORG its the 3rd gen 8gb and the headphones dont work because they're to big to fit in the jack along with most of my headphones. i guess because theyre too old

  • Hello DetroitBORG, Can the powered USB hub charge the iPad??

  • @JerichoRock Yes, although only if the iPad screen is off.

  • You have a nice voice and nice vids. ;)

  • @MrSkaapable Thanks ;).

  • wow could the ipad be anymore useless? And that kit is basically just an accessory to produce device not supported messages or give no response when a device is connected. Given the small storage capacity of even the high end ipad you'd think they would have added usb hard drive and flash drive support.

  • you realize that there is a keyboard dock made for the ipad???

  • @thejerems73 Yes, I own it and have a video on that as well ;)

  • u need to jail break to access the root files

  • @DetroitBORG You will have success in connecting USB-Sticks, when you store the photos in a Folder in the root called "DCIM". That is what the iPad is searching for!

  • @pillemp Yes, although this USB drive wouldn't mount to the iPad in Mass Storage mode so I had to format it to clear away the U3 layer. I did a video on this later. So yes, it does work when prepared properly ;).

  • Was that USB flash drive formatted to FAT32??? Thats the only format that the iPad will read.

  • @foggy11dj Yes, it was FAT32, but the problem with many OEM flash drives is that they don't comply with Mass Storage specs since they force drivers onto computers (SanDisk uses U3). Once I did a clean format of the drive, I was able to mount it on the iPad.

  • Do you know if there's any way to use a USB hub and be able to charge the iPad at the same time?

  • @garethwestern Technically yes, especially since this USB hub is powered. Things get a little dodgey when you start sharing power across an unpowered hub. All powered USB ports have to supply at least 500mA at 5volts, which gives you 2.5 Watts for charging. This means you can charge the iPad, but only when the screen is off.

  • can you please test camera kit on the iphone

  • @qwertythecomputer I have in a previous video. The iPhone displays an error message when you connect either adapter.

  • Interesting I wonder will that be a fix in a Jailbreak app..thxs for the attempt / tutorial

  • Interesting..... I see the iPad using USB devices in the future.

  • Hey Mike! I'd just like to let you know that I'm loving these "compatability" videos - very interesting and informative. Thanks for sharing ;-)

  • try using that camera connection kit on iphone/ipod?

  • @dazacman40 he did that already

  • @dazacman40 It doesn't work to import photos to an iPod or iPhone. Only the iPad has the software to do it.

  • @DetroitBORG ahaha, i feel stupid :P just after i posted that comment, i realized that

  • Which power USB are you using or which one do you recommend us to buy?

  • @magicpandora It's a Griffin Simplifi, but it's primarily a universal dock for iPhone/iPod which happens to be powered. As for what powered USB I would recommend, I couldn't tell you because I don't own one beyond this Griffin.

  • DetroitBORG....put the all the photos on a DCIM Folder...and it will detect the photos on a USB Flash...try it

  • @Xeyad1 Done, even made a video ;)

  • Interesting tests. Too bad it doesn't work.... :(
