Oh yes, before Tampines was developed, it was quite a shitty place in the past. haha.. I still recall visiting relatives who first shift to Tampines in the late 80s and early 90s. The old bus interchange was like in a desert of no where n East West line was still constructing. lol
I am pretty sure this video was shot either in 1988 or after 1990. It cannot be in 1987. Orchard MRT was not opened in 1987. Only 5 stations were opened in 1987, Toa Payoh, Braddell, Bishan, Ang Mo Kio and Yio Chu Kang. I remember when MRT first started running, I was one of the Kiasu Singaporeans who took the first ride. Orchard Station was opened in the second phase of the north south line.
Oh Thats so lovely... I was living in singapore for a ver shot while from year 2007 to 2008. I jus love this place that I keep visiting every year... And Tampinis oh my.... it was so empty and less crowd everywhere..... I really Love Singapore and miss it a lot.....
You sir was blessed and fortunate to see my country what was it back then, as for me i was born a year later after this video =( everything was just a childhood memories for me, till i saw this video of yours. Thank you so much for uploading this video =)
It remind me the day when I was young, my parents bring me to orchard during Xmas, my primary sch teachers bring us to sentosa for excursion. Singapore back then is much more simple n happier, even without Facebook or iPhone!!
@zhengkaizhong: Our grandfathers WERE the ah tiongs and banglas when they first migrated to Singapore. We don't own this place just because we're not the ones in our family who are 1st generation immigrants.
5:58, it used to be a A&W if I didn't recall wrongly, in e 2005s, it was being occupy by Burger King, as far as I know e last time I went there, BK is still there.
Can't remember the last time I saw the sidewalks on Orchard so blissfully empty ... these days its a zoo out there ! @tobyschimm, thanks so much for sharing, you made my day.
You've got to visit Singapore again! It has changed soooo much, the skyline is now peppered with new skyscrapers and there are casinos here right now! Its kind of nostalgic to see an under-construction tampines mrt station in the video and how commuters used the old tickets to enter the station! The good ol' days!!!
I was born in 1987! :) I'm glad that I got to see (and spend my childhood at) most of the places in this clip, more or less as they appear here. Everything seems so modern and new and foreign now. Thanks for sharing this video!
its nice in the past. Now, Singapore is just a piece of breeding land for china. Just walk around and you can see communist bastards walking over over the place. Not forgetting the china bitches existing among us to trick us of our money. Fuck china, they never fail to ruin our life. And yes, fuck you too philippine and india, fuck you.
tobyschimm, if you were to come back to singapore now you'd be astounded at how different singapore is. i hope you had a nice time during your visit :) ah this has made me all nostalgic. the old buses!
Thank you for sharing this video! 1987 was the year I was born and your video provides a heartwarming reminder of Singapore as it was back then. The uncrowded spaces are definitely a far cry from Singapore today! I hope you had a great time in Singapore and have had opportunities and reason to return since. And if you haven't, I hope you will soon. Cheers!
Wow, Singapore has changed so much! I really miss the old layout of Orchard Station. Who would have imagined that 23 years later, a glitzy new mall opened to business, right above the very same station?
Singapore's changed so much since, and especially Sentosa, which would be unrecognizable now to anyone who last saw it in 1987. Thanks for sharing this, it sure brings back memories of my halcyon youth :-)
Great video, I grew up in S'pore and was 5 years old there in 1987 this video is so nostalgic for me.
