Reminds me of the old Jesse Fuller (San Francisco Bay Blues) & Leadbelly songs. The album this came from "Deuce" remains my all time fave RG recording. Wore out 2 copies of the vinyl in 1971-72.
All I can say is GOD DAMN!!! I mean that in a good way....RIP Rory....
PS...Rory if you have Youtube in heaven and see this post, please message me just to jam some songs with you up there...please invite Phil Lynott, Tommy Bolin, Felix Pappalardi, Bonham and Keith Moon as a bartender...lol
i play this song standard tuning: B D#7 G#m C#7 B F#7 B F#7. would anyone know what key i would play the harmonica in? im thinking B but not sure as its bluesy enough! please help. cheers. :)
I just figured it out! I deleted my last reply to you. This CD version of the song is played in C, and the harmonica is in F. The chords are C, E, Aminor, D7, C, G7 (g chord except has the f on the high e instead the G note).
For the other part it's A7, D7, B7, E, C, D7, G (normal G), then you repeat, unless you're going back into the main chord progression then you go back to C with the increasing bass line.

well, Rory isn't my number one. But he is one of the greatest. We miss such musicians today.

Sure, it's a beautiful song.
I always thought this song has been recorded on a 12 strings guitar, at least it sounds like that to me.
I wonder if I'm right.
