How did you set up your mouse so that you could look up/down? I have quake 1 in both ancient disc-form and a download from steam, and i can only do that with the arrow keys, which is a hassle for me. Is it some simple setup in your controls?

It may depend on the version, but if you drop the console and type +mouse, it should work.

In WinQuake, to have mouselook on all the time:

Open Notepad, enter the following:

+mlook

crosshair 1

Save the file as 'autoexec.cfg' and put it in the 'ID1' folder.

but i was with a quake online community earlier this year and they all told me to get the up to date Quake engines with better graphics but i honestly prefer the older graphics for old games.

I dont know why, but for me, if it is going to have excellent graphics it has to have excellent gameplay (like with PS3 games this half of the decade).

Dont get me wrong, Quake is one of my favorite games coz it is so cool to play, but it just isnt suited for crisp graphics..

I remembered after I wrote that comment i actully played Quake on DOS first time that happened but it has happened since then on WinQuake. Games with a few problems are better than perfect games anyway.

not sure if your still stuck on it after three months but i sometimes have the same problem on WinQuake.

first time i played it, i was half way through Azure Agony (after completing episdoes 1 to 3) and i saw my three runes had disappeared. I completed episode 4 and the other episodes had opened.

I think its a glitch with loading a game but if it ever happens to me now, i just use the Rune Cheat to get back any runes i had lost through the glitch. Its not cheating if you did the episdoes.

im so glad you uploaded this...I just got up to the end level, killed all the monsters except for Shub-Niggurath, and then got a windows vista error I could not get past...at least I know how it ends now!

That floating spike-ball-thingy that is moving around the the teleport destination. It even goes to a secret area =) But be careful lol, that lava sure does hurt.

Did you pick up the Rune from each episode? If not, then the floor won't be exposed. According to the game and from what I can remember, the Runes that you grab at the end of each episode hold a section of power of the seal to the entrance to Shub's place. So you need all 4 to open it.

@lmsAlucard I'm pretty sure Shub Niggurath is a "her" or hermaphrodite, since she's the "black goat of the forests with a thousand young." I think she's also called the mother of abominations, and probably gave birth to all the shamblers and wraiths and crap in the game (though it's not stated anywhere).
