they have the perfect tank!! turtles eat fish for extra nutrition... dont hate this persons tank is ideal for turtles... i have a 72 with 5 turtles 4 babies 1 big
@mrspikeyboy79 they eat meal worms, gold fish for the exercise cause gold fish have no nutritional value, and turtle pellets. the water temp is at 80. there is always some one that thinks they know it all. thanks
Are you using a submersible filter? I want to start using a sand like substrate like yours and was curious if you've had any problems with filtering/cleaning.
@WonderfulKong i am using 2 closed over the back canister filters. they work great. and after the sand settled down i turned them on. takes about a week. i turned one on and it sucked up alot of sand and burned up. you have to let the sand settle first. after the sand settles it is so easy to take care of. i have never cleaned my sand and it is the same sand i put in 2 years ago. i have gold fish that also help clean the top layer of sand and the filters do the rest.
@sanshyum12 it depends on what you want to get in to. i have both and they are great. the red ear will deff get way bigger then the painted turtle. but other then that they both are a good turtle. a painted turtle can show more aggresion but nothing to much. the pleco in the video is about 5 inches now and the pleco abd the painted fight all the time. the red ears never mess with him. but the pleco always wins, lol.
@Jr435407 sand, way easier to keep clean, i am using the same sand from 2 years ago. just make sure you let it settle before turning on the filter. the less sand in the filter the longer it will last.
@CreeperGreifers all you have to do is replace a sealed fish tank lid for a wire/mesh lid. This will allow for the humid air to escape and not build up like it would with a standard "fish tank" lid.
@Richbowker they are getting ventalated air. the hole back is open on the lid and a fan going at all times. check before you think you know better. i have had turtles for 24 years. i know what i am doing.
@ohhchhittt if you know better then what you going to do with your turtles when they grow? that tank will be usless then?? fan not good enough! stil be to humid! keeping turyles for 25 years? where are your other turtles that are 25 years old and fully grown?? did they die of shell ROT!!! if your so good you should be able to keep them for 35+ years
@Richbowker i totally agree with you richbowker. That tank is practcally usless for turtles. he says he has a fan???? so what!! thats no where near as good as a mesh lid. like your comment asking where his other turtles that should be 25 years old!! he obviously loses them and has to keep replacing them! poor keeper.
@ConstipationFinger a fish set up, what makes this a fish set up. cause i have fish in there. what should i have like 3 inches of water and a rock for them is that what you see as a turtle tank. were do you see turtles in the wild, let me guess in a pond or lake. how deep is that. and were do they sun bath on a rock or floating log. wow that is what my tank looks like a pond with floating log. they are water turtles they swim they sleep on the bottom and eat the fish. what is a fish setup again
@MrPorkscratchings sorry you feel i dont know what i am doing and you feel you are a expert. i have had wild turtles that i kept for a bit and then let go, pet turtles that i had for a few years then had to move and found new homes, i have never had a turtle die, so i guess i am doing something right.
@Richbowker there is always some one that thinks they know more then the next, i have a had turtles for a long time some wild that i let go some that i had for pets and then found new homes for when i had to move. i have read books and articles on turtles i have worked with turtle rescues. im not saying i know it all but i know how to take care of them. and for the record my humidity guage is sitting right at 40 in the top of the tank and water temp right at 80. all heathy and happy.
@Richbowker i already have plans for a outdoor pond in my lanai for them when they get to big for the tank they are in now. and that will probably be sometime in the next year. so just chill out mr know it all. my turtles are being very well taken care of.
@ohhchhittt Yes you seem a very good turtle owner, sorry for being a DICK, read my comments back and they look like i am a know it all!! I'm not! Think it was one of them days when everything seems to be on top of you and i needed to have a go, unfortunately it was you. Good luck with your turtles.
@ohhchhittt i think you do have a good tank, but VS the number of the turtles their i think you should reconsider either the size or the number of turtles their, i give 1 year max before stuff gets out of hand,
FYI i got two RES in 20G tank, and just bought a 60G under decoration, once completed i will share,
@ConstipationFinger humidity guage is sitting right at 40 and the water temp is right at 80, wow guess the fan does work. so now what is wrong. like i said im my posts i know what i am doing. i have worked with turtles for a while. even with turtle rescues. i have even bread and raised them. so i guess i am doing something right.
@ohhchhittt you may have had turtles for 25 years but that dosen't indicdate your method is correct, @Richbowker i agree with your comment the air is to humid. these turtles are young and will take a few years for problems to show on them.
@ohhchhittt can i put him into direct sunlight? how long can i get him into it? cause many said that turtles don't like cold!! they like warm or hot weather!! plss. answer!! tnx..
Ok, I know it's bad to mix turtle age groups and what-not, but I'm planning on getting a Mississippi Map Turtle and a Eastern Painted Turtle. Both of them are babies, and I was wondering. Can I put them with a Juvenile RES and a Juvenile (Other Turtle that looks similar to RES) without them fighting? There's only about a couple of months age difference...
@MegaTurtlelover1 NOOOOOO, when you mix turtles they have to be really close to the same size. or the big one will nip and pick on the little one and eventually kill it.
@vanzgo25 i have had 2 soft shell turtles and as babies they do not or atleast mine have not. now my one is getting bigger i have seen it nip at the gold fish.
hey dude your tank is pretty bad ass but i bet that its a bitch to clean.... hey the red ear sliders dont try to eat the algea earter... or do they mess with it..?????
@ohhchhittt can i put him into direct sunlight? how long can i get him into it? cause many said that turtles don't like cold!! they like warm or hot weather!! plss. answer!! tnx..
@YoungRockStarX i am using toy box sand from home depo, it is already cleand and it is hard to clean sand. i set it up with water first and add the sand. top off the water and plug up the filter. takes about a week to settle maybe less. once you see it getting clear turn the pump on and let it go. the reasoning for doing it this way is the sand settles for the most part then the filter wont suck up the sand and sand will kill a filter.
WOW! Incredible setup, really breathtaking. I was thinking of getting a soft shell turtle, and I was wondering, is a ninety gallon enough? It would be a male. And how high should the water be? I was planning on a shallow water level, about ten inches, with lots of land and some plants, maybe a cabomba or some swords. Would this be satisfactory? thnx, and keep posting great vids!
omg best tank ever i have a baby red eared slider turtle and im keeping him in a ten gallon hes about an inch and a half is that okay he has a bunch of decorations?
@xxxredearedsliderxxx You're going to need a waaaaaaayyyyyyy bigger tank soon! I took my RES turtles, 2 of them, from a friend, not knowing how big they would get or how FAST they'd grow. It's been a year and they wouldn't fit in my 25 gallon tank. I just bought a 70gallon tank and they're so happy :) Start saving now!
@ohhchhittt could you tell me what sexes would go best together? im looking to buy two baby painted turtles and i don't know if i should get male-male or female-female (i don't want any breeding)
@supaskillz101 I have 2 female RES turtles.. not the same, but probably similar in behaviour - they do NOT get along!! Not sure about 2 males - but judging by other male/male interactions in the animal kingdom, I'm not sure it'd go much better... You might just want one?
@supaskillz101 actually turtles dont fight, when they are messing with each other they are not getting enough food. i have 9 in my big tank and half boys half girls, they are always doing the mating theing with each other but never fight. they may nip at one another but that is to see if it is edible.
@classick12 oky :) i guess its 150x60x60 im gonna have one too :) like yours super cool! but i tell you, in that tank u can have max 2 Turtles! cause Turtles grow up, they need space! 10 turtles is to much
@classick12 yes it is to big for adult turtles but mine are still small enough and i am in the middle of saving equipment to build and pond for them in the back yard. oh dont worry i have had turtles all my life, they get better care then the dog.
i use a magnaflow canister filter that hangs over the side, you can get it at any pet store. the key with sand is to have the suction part of the filter up high. i burnt one up with it down low
Cool setup I wish I had a soft shell turtle I have a set up for turtles already in my big 120 gallen tank which is more like a pond for my nile monitor I don't know if he would eat a hachling soft shell because he doesn't bother the red eared sliders. I'm not sure about putting sand on bottom. Because if I do how long before I would be able to see whats in my tank because of all the sand floating around?
@Dennis252010 it takes about a week for the sand to settle before you can start the filter. and a year later i am still using the same sand. i keep gold fish in all my tanks and they help so much in filtering the sand.
hey man i have a little problem. okay so i have two RES turtles and i got them a new 10 gallon tank with a new filter and all and i kept them for 2 days and the water seemed very clean to me. Yesterday i went and bought 4 tiny minnows as feeder fish but suprisingly they havnt killed them and eaten them yet. anyway my tank has gotten really dirty since yesterday. do you think it is because of the minnow feeders? do you think a ghost shrimp or two might help? the water is just cloudy
@Benzs63ownz You need a bigger tank... 10 is barely big enough for 1 baby lol And I'm not trying to get on to you or anything, just saying 10 is small for these turtles...
@Jnick911 i have a pleco in both my turtle tanks, they help alot to keep it clean. its just hard for them to learn stay away from the turtles. i went through 4 before i got one to not get eaten. now it is as big as the turtles and holds its own in the tank.
@Bongtokebobby1 i keep the filter clean and i am still using the same water and sand from a year ago. goldfish, pleco clean filter is all you need to do. every now and then i clean the glass above the water line.
@pittielove well i have sand in my tanks and the gold fish are always sifting in the sand, they eat every thing. i have found they do help clean the tank alot.
I remember when I was 10 years old, I had a Red Eared Slider...Me AND my parents both guessed he was hibernating, so we put him in a towel, and wrapped him up, then put him in a small, enclosed corner beside my dad's desk. Well, we still don't know, but we think he was sick, and he died...
is it ok if i use sand for my turtle tank

@ohhchhittt could you tell me what sexes would go best together? im looking to buy two baby painted turtles and i don't know if i should get male-male or female-female (i don't want any breeding)
supaskillz101 8 months ago
@supaskillz101 I have 2 female RES turtles.. not the same, but probably similar in behaviour - they do NOT get along!! Not sure about 2 males - but judging by other male/male interactions in the animal kingdom, I'm not sure it'd go much better... You might just want one?
pittielove 8 months ago
@supaskillz101 actually turtles dont fight, when they are messing with each other they are not getting enough food. i have 9 in my big tank and half boys half girls, they are always doing the mating theing with each other but never fight. they may nip at one another but that is to see if it is edible.

classick12 8 months ago
125 Gallon, not sure what the is in meters
ohhchhittt 8 months ago
@classick12 oky :) i guess its 150x60x60 im gonna have one too :) like yours super cool! but i tell you, in that tank u can have max 2 Turtles! cause Turtles grow up, they need space! 10 turtles is to much
classick12 8 months ago
@classick12 yes it is to big for adult turtles but mine are still small enough and i am in the middle of saving equipment to build and pond for them in the back yard. oh dont worry i have had turtles all my life, they get better care then the dog.

please don't keep the softshell with the other ones, softshells are very agressive, just a tip, please remove him
KevinIsM8ig 8 months ago
actually the soft shell was the one getting picked on, the other turtles were niping at its soft shell, no he has his own tank.

very nice set up. you are treating your turtles great. I hate when I see unhappy turtles. I really bothers me.

what kind of filter do you use for sand and all of that?
SchnitzGirl 9 months ago
i use a magnaflow canister filter that hangs over the side, you can get it at any pet store. the key with sand is to have the suction part of the filter up high. i burnt one up with it down low
ohhchhittt 8 months ago
where do you get your turtles i got my two female and male in L.A.

Dennis252010 9 months ago

Benzs63ownz 10 months ago
@Benzs63ownz You need a bigger tank... 10 is barely big enough for 1 baby lol And I'm not trying to get on to you or anything, just saying 10 is small for these turtles...

cool setup do u recomend getting a pleco for the turtle tank?
Jnick911 10 months ago
@Jnick911 i have a pleco in both my turtle tanks, they help alot to keep it clean. its just hard for them to learn stay away from the turtles. i went through 4 before i got one to not get eaten. now it is as big as the turtles and holds its own in the tank.

nice job.. I'm looking for a big tank myself. how much of a pain is it to clean?
Bongtokebobby1 11 months ago
@Bongtokebobby1 i keep the filter clean and i am still using the same water and sand from a year ago. goldfish, pleco clean filter is all you need to do. every now and then i clean the glass above the water line.
ohhchhittt 8 months ago
@ohhchhittt what do the goldfish do for the water cleanliness? and what filter do you use? :)
pittielove 8 months ago
@pittielove well i have sand in my tanks and the gold fish are always sifting in the sand, they eat every thing. i have found they do help clean the tank alot.

I remember when I was 10 years old, I had a Red Eared Slider...Me AND my parents both guessed he was hibernating, so we put him in a towel, and wrapped him up, then put him in a small, enclosed corner beside my dad's desk. Well, we still don't know, but we think he was sick, and he died...
0Catfight0 11 months ago
@0Catfight0 Lmao funny story XD Feel free to correct me on this people but i don't think Turtles hibernate, i think it's on Tortosies that do that.
