Its a fecking great song when your on the edge of a relationship in terminal decline....it makes you jump!!...Well it made me jump..and I was right to do it.
First song I heard by Del Amitri was Roll To Me, and all these other songs just make me love the band more. Too bad they broke up... well I think the lead singer and one other member still tours with new members. IDK
ABSOLUTELY GREAT SONGWRITING !! a shame this band doesn`t exist any longer !! Check out "Tell her" , "Nothing ever happens" or "Don`t come home too soon"...great stuff indeed...listen to them and u can forget all your problems for a sec.
This song is about a couple who've had an abortion. "Now the kid has gone", "trying to steer the conversation from, the thing we've done" He's saying no matter what happens he'll always be by her side. It's a classic song.
Some one told me it was about a couple driving back after having an abortion..'driving through the long night trying to figure whos right and whos wrong, now the kids has gone' definitly backs it up, but listen to the whole song and it makes sense, very emotional when you look at it from that angle
Come on! Doc Walker has taken away all of the authenticity of the song! I think Del Amitri nailed this one! It's meant to sound raw! It's meant to sound a little less polished! It's meant to have a big key change! In case you didn't notice Justin Currie Wrote the song! Not that big fat American!
I too prefer the doc walker version, but this is the first time ive heard the original. i especially like how doc walker made the verse and the chorus destinctly different. the original percussion, the sounds at the beginning, are very original is such a ballad type song.
Gives me goose bumps... so sad (sniff)

Sevenandrising- Why not just go! maybe better for both if that's the way you feel.....
Maybe your other half would be better off without you.....Ever thought about that?

Thank you for your explanation. Could you also explain the word "metaphor"?

I love this song. It makes you fall in love and try to get away at the sametime. But it always makes you stay.

Seriously,..what do you really think this song means ?
To me, it shows how we as males, settle
in a relationship, even if we are not really in love. Just because its easy and there.
This song is the sad realization of that fact . Can you see/hear that ?

You're so right. Almost had me in tears when I read your comment along with hearing the song.

So wrong,.... the "kid" is his youth in the realationship.
"The things weve done" is a drug reference"
Its FAR from a "being by her side song".
Wake up ! Dave taint to bright.
