  • Aghh...watching this guy play makes me realize that life just isn't fair. So friggin good!

  • what tuning is this? i'm working on a cover of the song as well and i am using Drop D capo'd at the 3rd fret.

  • John, My Name is Todd Shipley, and realy do enjoy your work's. hope to add your stile to my practicing.thanks for the video buddy.

  • That was a mighty fin a' pickin' and a' singin'!!! Well, mighty fine picking anyways :D

  • Does that make me 'bonafide'? : )

  • i may have to change my pants

  • Whooaa! Hold up here, Mister. Alright. Just wanted to let you know that was probably some of the absolute best playing I've ever heard. You are so lucky to have that kinda talent. Carry on my good man and God bless.

  • Thanks a lot. I sometimes wonder about the luck and talent part, having spent a zillion hours working at this and still not being able to make much of a living at it. But... at this age, it's not just something I like to do, it's turned into who I am. I would be smart to take up selling shoes for a living, but who can turn their back on music and the guitar? I just keep plugging away, just as if it made a difference. Sure nice to hear from folks sometimes who think it's worthwhile! - John

  • @johnstandefer LOL I kept plugging away for years too and never even had the satisfaction of being able to play worth a damn. You have a great smooth easy style. Keep pickin!

  • Why learn how to sing when you can just do the bass, rhythm guitar and melodic lines all at once? Great video.

  • That's always been my motto. You'd agree too if you heard me sing : ) - JS

  • @johnstandefer Ha! I don't know about that, Mr Standefer. The timbre of your speaking voice is pretty smooth. I'm willing to be you could croon with the best of them. If you are ever in Sydney, let's have a jam!

  • sweet baby jesus. you can play that guitar man

  • Beautiful.

  • Played brilliantly with such ease, like as simple as breathing. Hats off to you!

  • That is pro!

  • Terrific playing of a great song. Is that a Larrivee LSV 11?? It is the same one I play. They are fantastic!!

  • @fuciledacaccia It's a Larrivee LV-10 that I won at Winfield. Really similar to yours and certainly a nice axe...

  • BAD ASS

  • OMG do you have tabs for this john? i loved this you remind me of my grandfather exept he was a gretch guy didnt like acoustics i like acoustics more.

  • @trainmasterxxx Yep, I have a whole video class with TAB that I taught on this arrangement. It's on the store page at my site. Thanks for the nice words... JS

  • YOU ROCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • love, love, love it!!

  • great job!

  • absolutely beautiful....

  • wow i am blown away

  • Hi John, I think you are truly a great guitar player with an amazing technique and music experience.

  • Top notch player!

  • The video of Man of Constant Sorrow was captured by a microphone that is just barely out of the camera's view off my right knee - no pickup at all. I generally use pickups for live performances and mics for recording, although I used both the Baggs and a mic on the new Christmas CD (and it's tough to tell which is which!). - John

  • excellent picking ! excellent sound. do you use a lr baggs pickup for this one ?

  • WOW!! He play fantastic!! and he is soo sweet :D

  • teach me! :D

  • cool sound

  • Yeah, John! Listen to this on your CD "Ticket Home" quite often!

  • Way to go, John!

  • John-great as usual!!
