  • The Donners had a dinner party!!

  • The New YEAR OF THE DRAGON will arrive on the 23rd of January 2012.

Stanley Kubrick was born in that Year, in the past (they occur every 12 years, wiki it)

This music influenced Sam Raimi for The Evil Dead.

The New Year 2012 will bring some wonders, and conflicts, and December will not bring about The End of Life, as many have thought.

  • Really fucking dark, this tune with the scenery & camera work along the winding road at the beginning creates an atmosphere that is just awsome.

  • I love how the top comment is the just transcript from this scene.

  • This and the theme are my favorites from the soundtrack.

  • @jabrooonni HURRRRR I DON'T KNOW HOW TO READ THE DESCRIPTIONS OF VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE

  • @Revolver7251 Youtube is for audio + video, not just audio. Now shut your cock holster, ass wipe.

  • That's where the Overlook was at, here's the other locations according to IMDb:

    Colorado, USA

Elstree Studios, Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, England, UK

    Glacier National Park, Montana, USA

Going-to-the-Sun Road, Glacier National Park, Montana, USA (opening scenes: aerial shots)

Saint Mary Lake, Glacier National Park, Montana, USA (opening scenes: aerial shots)

Timberline Lodge, Mount Hood, Oregon, USA (Overlook Hotel exterior)

    Yosemite National Park, California, USA

  • It's actually shot in the Cascades on Mt Hood, Oregon.

  • you see hunny, he saw it on the televison

  • I don't know why, but I always think about McCarthy's "Blood Meridian" when I listen to this track. Beautiful.

  • "Daddy..I'm hunger."

"Well ya shoulda eaten your breakfast."

  • Scary o.O

  • whoa! =D im in the Zone

  • There is something so sombre and terrifying about that song. Like seeing your own self from a distance walking, slowly but steadily, towards a terribly beautiful cliff.

  • @RudolfSchmidt what's sombre and terrifying about watching yourself kill yourself in a beautiful way? it's suicide, suicide is peaceful for you or the ...erm "suicidee" .

  • @facecheek well, you were in the mood for a discussion uh? alright then. thing is, if we were at some party, drunk in a stranger's kitchen, we could have this conversation and exchange our different views.. but here, it's a difficult experience. I'll only tell you that I think beauty IS terrible. and by that I don't mean it's rotten or BS or whatever. I just believe it is dangerous and terrifying, but vital.

  • Je pourrais écouter cela des heures durant... la musique du cinéma ... bien mieux que les chansons parfois!

  • Penderecki's music has such a realistic tone! I can virtually see myself in whatever atmosphere he creates.

  • @globetrekker86 Wendy Carlos composed this piece. Kubrick used Penderecki's work for pretty much everything else however.

  • @Revolver7251 Wendy Carlos (as Walter Carlos) for Clockwork Orange

  • @Revolver7251 Penderecki composed a lot of the string music I believe.

  • I always laugh at the way Jacks driving in this scene. Great film though. The bit at 2:03 sends shivers down my spine.

  • you shouldn't heard this if you're depressed :(

  • so atmospheric, haunting, and creepy.

  • @clay10h Indeed, and it was also heard in The Screaming Skull.

  • @cheapcape My bad, I meant the opening score was in that movie, not this piece.

  • "you mean, they ate each other up?"

  • Terrible things are going to happen.

  • jack nicholson became my favorite actor after this movie

  • Man all u ppl can download any of this on youtube converter!

  • The part from 0:00 to roughly 0:24 is the most epic musical cue I've heard in a long time, and also one of the darkest. I didn't think a piece of music could be so dark AND so epic at the same time.

    Whole song is amazing.

  • @coffeeintheface Definitely. While the rest of the song is a bit jumbled, the beginning has a distinct mood, feel, and pattern.

  • Beautiful and haunting movie. It has haunted me since I was a teenager.

Evil Dead 1 imitated this at the scene where Ash buries his girlfriend.

  • This uses and instrument Carlos created called the Circon, along with considerable tape delay.

  • They used this song at Universal's Halloween Horror Nights (Orlando) last year!

  • This is so Weird. Still gives me the Creeps. Watched this Movie when i was 6 and my Family and i have a Holiday in Austria. Landscape looks same. dont know, just Weird Movie that give me Nightmares, but absolutely Phenomenal Film at the same Time!

  • I just now realized that the song cuts off a little early. Wish I could fix that. Sorry, guys.

  • @Revolver7251 You can download audacity named music program. With that, you can edit song by very easy way.

  • This is sick. Reminds me of the tuneskies in Apocalypse Now

  • @Zappafan5150 Yes, it does have a similiar sound. At the scene where they look up at that felled aircraft while going down the (Noon?) River...

  • Deeply unsettling yet incredibly poignant and rather tragic. Love the descending filths at the beginning.

    Wendy Carlos is a genius,

  • This send chills. It's awesome! Love the sounds tracks of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Barry Lyndon and The Shining.

    Thanks for posting!

  • those filtered screams and notes are the best I hear in years, awesome!

  • why does this piece of music fuck with me so bad. it has for years. makes me very unsettled

  • just great!

  • one of my top 5 of extreme psychotic music.

I always said that the composer was probably touched in some way.

I found out later that it was composed by a woman who used to be a man!!!

  • you should listen no more of this music, skinny.

  • @artconva

It's an incredible piece of music.

I'm only joking about the composer - sorry.

  • I agree,just kidding too

  • I watched paranormal this morning-what do you think of it ?

  • well, your supposed to watch it at night,ha.

Half way through it, I was cheering for the ghost - I couldn't stand the boyfriend.

Good effects, not bad story, very chilly at a few spots too.

I rarely like the overall acting in these flicks though.

    How about you?

  • Thank you for posting this. It's absolutly beautiful. Wendy Carlos is a master at layering soundscapes.

  • Does anyone else think this sounds like the music in Resident Evil?

  • I like to listen to this while playing warcraft :)

  • This song is so extremely intense, its horrifying. Masterpiece horror song

  • Wendy: Hey! Wasn't it around here that the Donner Party got snowbound?

Jack: I think that was farther west in the Sierras.

    Wendy: Oh.

Danny: What was the Donner Party?

Jack: They were a party of settlers in covered-wagon times. They got snowbound one winter in the mountains. They had to resort to cannibalism in order to stay alive.

Danny: You mean they ate each other up?

Jack: They had to, in order to survive.

    Wendy: Jack...

Danny: Don't worry, Mom. I know all about cannibalism. I saw it on TV.

  • See? It's okay, he saw it on the television...

  • JACK: See? It's okay. He saw it on the television.

  • @hdna12 LOL! Awesome!

  • @hdna12

Jack: "See, it's ok. He saw it on the television!"

  • @DeimosComaBlack Best lines from The Shining Thanks! Best Horror Movie of 1980's.

  • @hdna12 best horror movie EVER! ;)

  • @hdna12 damn dude. i can do that for a lot of movies.. like all the pirates of the caribbean movies.. most of the star wars movies.. all of the lord of the rings movies.. secret window, sweeney todd, public enemies, alice in wonderland, the dark knight, nightmare before christmas, tenacious d, princess bride, a lot of everybody loves raymond episodes lol.. and um... damn cant think of anymore right now.. but i hope to be able to know the full dialogue for the shining soon enough. i know some now

  • During the scene of the movie where this track occurs the Torrances drive towards the Overlook Hotel on the novels fictional Sidewinder Road in Larimer County, Colorado, which was filmed on Going-To-The-Sun Road in Glacier National Park, Montana.

  • magic's still alive! this song manifets in my head, deep pictures of high nature follw it, really amazing!

  • how did you get this song?

  • I purchased the album.

  • Oh man, where did you buy the album?

  • Bought it at Comicon San Diego. There was a film and TV soundtrack stand in the exhibition hall. 6 bucks!

  • Nice. I would love to find this soundtrack.

  • @Revolver7251 OMG you're phu(#ing lucky, what's the name of the album?

  • @Revolver7251 Oh that's amazing! I've been gathering all of the original recordings of the non-Wendy Carlos music from the film, its great to find this music here.

  • @Revolver7251

    Wicked bro, wicked!

  • This does give you the sound of losing altitude and of going to a place that has a different air to it.

  • @Revolver7251 You purchased the SHINING Soundtrack? how was it? Post it !!!!! would love to hear it

  • The Rocky Mountains song sounds as if the mountains are discussing with each other, if, how, and when they will seize the lifeforms that dare walk upon them.

  • @Farger29 wow, you're deep!

  • la bande original n' a jamaais été réeditée en cd , on peut la trouver sur priceminister en vynil , musique trippante superbe!!!, c 'est tout simplement un chef d'oeuvre!!!!!!!! du grand kubrick......

  • wndy carlos is a leg end

  • I love this theme. Very interesting.

  • fantastic music, fantastic scene!

    moog 4ever!:D

  • i think this movie for its time pulled off the green screen backround the best

  • Utterly menacing. They are driving and you can just see the first, very subtle hints of madness in Jack's eyes

  • this song is scary

  • I still think The Shining is a great horror movie and the music is incredible. Does anyone know who wrote the music to the scene where Jack Torrance enters the bathroom in 237? He walks towards a woman in a bathroom and the music sounds like heartbeats. That tune is never commented on but I suppose it is Wendy Carlos?

  • Comment removed

  • That's Penderecki, layered with heartbeats. "The Dream of Jacob", I think.

  • Merci beaucoup. Wendy Carlos's introspection.

I really love this sounds, fully deep and down in a magistral harmony. All the complex and beautiful thoughts of the different characters are explain in this sequence.

  • I love this track. I play it out in the clubs as a kind of atmospheric intro. really works well in the movie

  • Very scary song.

  • The music in this movie is very disconcerting. Thats what makes it so great.

  • Wonderful! Thanks for the Upload. Creepy. "No Hope" in the music.

  • Every morning when I wake up, I play this wonderful song of hope & vitality, it brings me to my senses & has a profound affect to my interactions with other humans, dead or alive.

  • Wonderful!

  • This track creeps me out! Probably the creepiest opening sequence to a movie of ALL TIME.

  • This post is a lie.

  • How 's it a lie.

  • I should have said, "This sentence is a lie." I wasn't referring to the video.

  • God I love this music. :)

Please never take it down. It's some of the best music ever created.

  • Hey Dave, if you have noisey kids, playing this music to them as they are put to bed just after turning off the lights is a good way of making them quiet, I especially enjoy telling them that their lives do not last forever, so they better make the most of it !,,lol

  • lol

  • C'est un film qui nous "tord" l'intérieur. C'est un film qui fait mal à regarder. C'est brillant et l'ambiance incite à la folie et à la perte de toute lucidité. Quel chef d'oeuvre!(en anglais)

  • Fkn A...Love Wendy Carlos...Rocky Mountain is a Crecendo of Grace and Beauty...Great ADD
