  • shit, that was damn good

  • Is that Don Henley who starts the altercation? Sure looks a lot like him, back then, anyway...

  • love love this song ahhh the 80"

  • For some reason I picture michel jackson singing this XD

  • The only thing I remembered about this video was Sting's Tin Tin sweater. Who knew 25 years later I'd think Tin Tin was one of the best animated movies I ever saw.

  • 1:08 Sting appears to be using a kind of unorthodox notation system there... I saw one like it in a book (except it used a vertical staff) in the 1970s. I've never seen it anywhere else, but this looks very much like it.

  • I think this is Paula Abdul's funny and inventive choreography--love it, it reminds me a little of Twyla Tharp.

And I join others here in sending condolences about Vesta Williams--I never knew the name of the wonderful backing vocalist, but I'm sad to learn she's died. Does anyone here know more about her work? Other songs and/or videos she contributed to?

And has ANYONE posted somewhere on YT Sting's terrific live version of this song on SNL? I would love to see/hear that again....

  • @TheCatgirl6 Vesta sang for Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, Gladys Knight, Stephanie Mills,...to name a few, but I can't recall the exact songs. She had big hits of her own, the biggest probably being "Congratulations", and then there's "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" and "Don't Blow a Good Thing".

  • @LMmccallL57 Thanks; I'll give those a listen.

  • @TheCatgirl6 You're welcome. :-)

  • @TheCatgirl6 - it is NOT Paula Abdul's choreography. It was Barry Lather. Barry Lather. Barry Lather.

  • @Mandi7882 Ah, my bad--sorry, you're right! I looked Lather up on Wikipedia and saw the choreography credit for "We'll Be Together." My apologies.

However, I also noticed that Lather is listed as one of the dancers in several Paula Abdul choreographed videos, such as Janet Jackson's "Nasty" and "When I Think of You." So he was influenced by Abdul to some degree--maybe that's why I got my wires crossed about who choreographed the moves for this song.

  • @TheCatgirl6 - Do not take this personally, but I wonder what folks did before "looking it up on Wikipedia". I'm not a wikipedia fan as it should not be something to rely on, but I think young people have come to do so - and that is not good as real knowledge and truth will fade. Paula IS wonderful, but don't go nuts with crediting her. Auditioning and getting a spot does not necessarily mean you are influenced by THAT person. It just means you get to dance as that is what you love.

  • @Mandi7882 Well I'll try not to Mandi, if you won't. Look, I would agree that Wikipedia--or any online site--should not be the only source for information, especially when getting it right is crucial. On the other hand not everyone has the same access to every source of info out there. And btw, "influencing" does not equal "appropriating." Simply noting the similarity isn't meant as an accusation or a slight to Mr. Lather's gifts. Every creator is influenced by something or someone.

  • @TheCatgirl6 - Wonderful response...thank you! :)

  • @Mandi7882 A pleasure; you're welcome! (And I mean that sincerely, Mandi7882--it's nice to have a YT debate that doesn't devolve into mindless nastiness) :-)

  • the blonde dancer is Marcea Lane

  • Her name is Marcea Lane!

  • I didn't realize Vesta Williams passed away! I'm out of the loop...

  • Does anyone know the name of the blonde dancer?

  • Now, Sting, if your music was more simple and more fun like this, you'd have more success here in The USA. I wish you'd get that thruogh your head. At any rate...

  • i must say i was surprised to see that everybody remember this blond dancer, as well i do think about her everytime i hear this tune, she was hot! strangely enough I forgot about this 'Tintin' sweater though...

  • love his hair like this

  • It's so funny...

  • great video - those dancers look MJ inspired.

  • who is the little blonde dancer? she is da bomb!

  • @sceptresoul I have waited 24 years to see this video again because of this "tiny dancer" and would love to know who she is too.:-)

  • @sceptresoul

I know, I know. It's incredible. As a 24-year-old I couldn't take my eyes off her. Talk about "star quality". I only hope she went on to a stellar career.

  • @sceptresoul ...she used to be in ALL of the videos in the 80's...sista was bad...

  • 3:30, 38-ish Sting gives the most endearing smile...

  • RIP Vesta Williams :-{

  • Never know Sting made songs you could do 80's dancing to.

  • Essa musica é muito boa!!!

  • AMAZING! I LOVE HIM MORE

  • Does anyone have an idea of what Trudy mouths to Sting's alter ego before she gets in the car?

  • Remember this song in Ally Macbiel :)

  • Forgot Sting could dance a little. Very Nice.

  • I forgot how much I loved this video when it came out. Some Janet Jackson style dancing going on here. Wonder if the choreographer was named Landon.

  • Rest in Peace Vesta Williams - Stings powerhouse background vocalist here - i luv this song esp 3:28!!!!

  • @spellbound008 Agree! Always loved this song and she brought the vocals in the chorus!

  • @spellbound008 Just got thru watching Vesta's bio on "Unsung" this evening on TVOne

  • @spellbound008 Damn... those are some power backing vocals that add extra balls to this song.. too bad she aint here anymore.

  • @spellbound008 ...I KNEW it!!! I know Vesta's voice anywhere...

  • god bless the 80s...that sweater is glorious...

  • Song written originally for a Japanese beer. commercial.

  • pure 80s commercial rubbish.

  • Even with shaggy hair...Sting is still sexy;) 80's rule....

  • Who remembers when MTV took out all of the sound fx when the brawl begins?

    I HATED that!

  • From the heyday of music vids, by one of the most fascinating, and versatile, musical personalities of our time...

The follow-up single to "If You Love Somebody (Set Them Free)."

    You want Protean Musical Intelligence?

Contrast this with his vid from the John Dowland-inspired vid, "Can She Excuse?"

  • @tuxguys The follow up single to "If You Love Someone" was "Love is the Seventh Wave" followed by "Fortress Around Your Heart" followed by"The Russians" followed by 2 more singles released only in the UK and Germany followed by........... "We'll Be Together".

But the albums from which those two singles were released from were consecutive.

  • @aramanth

I stand corrected... I had just about quit listening to pop radio at the time, and those two LP's by Sting were almost the last two jazz, pop, or rock albums I ever bought... in Boston radio, as far as I know, those were the two consecutive single releases.

  • merci/.

  • I Love This Sting 1987 Music Video, "We'll Be Together," Which Became A Top 10 Hit In America, And A Top 20 Rock Hit In America.

  • Classic Paula Abdul choreography--makes me smile every time I see it. Great song too--only wish I could track down his SNL live performance of it.

  • sting is so drunk that he sings the rong song on the end

  • WOKE UP IN MY CLOTHES AGAIN THIS MORNING --- ABOUT TO BE 49 YEARS OLD AD [TO MY SURPRISE BELIEVE IT OR NOT] IT S-T-O-L-L HAPPENS! I GUESS THAT IT ALWAYS WILL SO I DON'T SWEAT IT ANYMORE. MOVING ON TO THE NEXT 'TICK' - WHY DO I DO THAT?...

  • That look he gives to Trudie in the end--when he looks down and then back up at her----melts my heart every time! Dammit, where is my Sting!!

  • yeaaaaaah cool song hey hey sting wear a polo of tintin & milou lol i'm from belgium i love the dacing girls at the end of the video the girl in the middle is so sexy but the movement on the chairs 4:33 is really amazing i wonder how the girls has made this

  • e'prprio bello questo video come tutti i vostri video!

  • oMG!! I WAS 16 years old and loving River Phoenix!!

  • One of my all time favorite videos

  • I love the "bad" Sting!

  • how is the blonde dancer????? i have loved this woman since 1987!!!!!!!!

  • @morton930 I think I found her. Check out Marcea Lane.

  • @majesticsdroid

Yup, that's her. It seems she was in a buttload of videos throughout the eighties. Has her own dancewear line now.

She was in videos with Janet Jackson, Prince, etc. Most memorably in Michael Jackson's thriller, but of little interest for our purposes cause she was in hideous zombie makeup for that one.

  • Sting looks hilarious as a cross between Andy Warhol, Peter Tork, and Brian "Rolling Stones" Jones.

  • Hot. Liked the dancing.

  • Australia's Renee Geyer singing the backing vocals on this track. Shame not in the clip. Trying to pinch the boniest ass in history ~ I'll give him some flesh to hold onto :)

  • the girls in the end r sexy. :)

  • The little blonde dancer was hot!!!!! I wonder who she is and where she may be today.

  • @MildredSnickwad me nether :D

i love sting!!! if you look to the names at the comments you see my name than somewhan else than my than somewan else and than me agen. im way to adicted

  • Now if Sting had wrriten his songs like THIS, he would have been more respected in The USA; His problem is that he intellectualizes too damn much. Paul McCartney doesn't, and that's why Sting can Never be like Mr. McCartney. Believeth thou it!

  • @kja427 Thanks God he is not like McCartney... and thanks for brains... In fact of all the Beatles Mr. McCartney is the least appealing of them all... Give me John, George or Ringo anytime... but Paul was always so full of himself...

  • he starts a fight but sitng isnt an agresif pursen ore is he? ore is that becouse he is drunk?

btw, i love it that he in this song sings some lines from if you love somebody set them free

  • I love Sting! I totally love that outfit he was wearing in that video!

  • This is a great video in some way,it puts a smile on my face!I like the way Sting and Trudie looks at each other...Like me and my husband, lovely. :) <3

  • @stingfan81 And they're still together after all of these years - and still have a very hot, romantic relationship! Love 'em both ...

  • Love this video...really like poetry in motion. Love the blonde female dancer at 4:43..lots of passion oushing that chair over...idk why, lol!

  • so we are going to keep pretending Michael Jackson was a child molester,i hate you vevo

  • Like it and his album; "Nothing Like the Sun" is my best one and the first track; "The Lazarus Heart" is so cool.

  • @jeffpecks5569sv i love the song little wing of that album. i love it that it's a cover of Jimi Hendrix (one of the best guitarists ever!) bit that is not the reazon that i love the song.

but my favorite album is Dolphins. not many people know it. my favorite song of that album is fill her up.

  • amazing btw i love his sweater :)

  • @AlphaAurelia

That's Tin Tin on his sweater and I've just been Googling them ha ha, have wanted one just like it since I saw this video in my teens

  • this is my all time favorite!!!! Great video and song!!!!

  • I love her too. Just one night.......

  • Sting did a great rubber-limbed drunk dance.

But who was the blonde dancer. She stood out!

  • @pinz2022 She in alot of Janet Jackson videos also. Wish I knew who she was.

  • @ heartnsoul67...don't forget rhythm nation and its chair dance

  • such an 80's video, no real thought put into this... The last dance scene has part Thriller, part Chicken Dance and even some Flash Dance mixed in...

  • @heartnsoul67 Hahaha...that is sooo correct! I think it's Paula Abdul's work.

  • @heartnsoul67 you do realize that this came out around 1987 when those moves were very well thought out for the time, actual choreography rather than the random 'do what ever happens to scratch your itch' crunkin' that shows up more often than not now....and you missed ZZ Top and Janet Jackson in your observations ^.^

  • I <3 YOU, STINNGGG (:

  • 3RD

  • Sting is God!

  • @Woodrowtracy NOT!!!

  • first LOL
