Please can you explain why in the last great ice age the CO2 ppm (parts per million) level was 8 times higher than it is today?

Can you also please explain to me the medieval warm period... there were no cars or planes around then.

Also can you explain why if global warming and the green house effect is sooo bad why politicians only want to regulate CO2 and not other green house gases like methane and nitrous oxide? 1 gram of methane is 22 times as damaging as 1gram of CO2 even the IPCC agree.
