  • Two of the coolest things combined in one! Motorbikes and Guitars I really like it. May I just ask what tuning?

  • @blobyist Thanks! Your right. I think i was tuned fcfc on this one, tune them lower now so the neck doesn't bow.

  • I love the sound! just started on the build of my first CBG, hope i'll come close to this;P

  • Sounds better than a gibson dobro!!

  • @JakeAndHisMusic Thanks Jake !! Cheaper thats for sure.

  • @lennypurnell And people said cheaper isn't better haha

  • Great box man nice playin to o and is that les paul in tge back ground strung up? It looks as if its missing the tail piece for the bridge

  • @2694wr Thanks!! Yeah I was getting ready to restring it. Thanks for watching!

  • A must see.

  • @MirurImage Thanks!!

  • Lenny, I really love your work, and playing too. I would very much like to know where you got the box from it's exactly the size I want for a guitar. thanks. oh really like the neck inlays, very nice.

  • @Michaelgreen Thanks!! I don't have it anymore so I can't measure it for you. I came from the Harley Davidson I think its been discontinued, but if you go to your nearest HD shop they might be able to do a dealer search for any remaining un sold. The box was alittle bit bigger I took it apart and made it smaller. They also sold a smaller box too. both are just pine boxes i I think its about 1/4 inch thick. I thinned down the top some. As I remember it was about $40.00 Good luck!! Lenny

  • ooh my god .. Sounds awesome !

  • @yamitanomura Thanks!!

  • Wow ! ! Thanks!!! I haven't built anything lately. If I can ever get caught up.I hope to get back into it,but for now I'm out. Thanks for watching the video's. You'll find some nice builds on Handmade clubhouse and Cigar box nation. Thanks again Lenny

  • Lenny, I've been a fan for a couple years now and was wondering now that I finally am in the position to make a purchase...what you would charge to build and ship a cigar box guitar, autographed so's I can hang it here in my studio.

  • Totally bad ass!!

  • Thanks man!

  • what type of wire or string did you use

    for the guitar

  • light acoustic strings D Addario The strings are adgb

  • Holy cow I love the tone. Sounds great!

  • Thanks!!

  • you rock at the cigar box guitar. the cigar box is really cool. I have learned to make mine rom maker workshop but the strings they use aren't as good a fish string or regular guitar string.

  • Thanks! The more of them you make the more you will learn about different strings ,boxes, frets etc.

  • It sounds fantastic.

    Well done.

You make me think to build an instrument.

  • Thanks!! You should make one. Check out the cigar box nation. They have the plan there that I went by.I just used my own box. Thanks for listening!!

I am indebted to you Sir

    Andrew

  • Thanks Andrew!! Wow!! I'm flattered! I'm glad you like it. Thanks again for your comments. You made my day! Lenny

  • What was it that caused the deeper tone? Id really like to get that same deep smokey sound this one has but Id also like to use a cheaper piezo than stu macs. Awesome vid too, its this vid that inspired me to build my own.

  • Very cool and deep sound!

did you buy a kit or did you make it from scratch?

I am expecting my first kit next week (telecaster), but after that I want to do a cigar box guitar!!!

  • Thanks!! I made it from scratch. That tele will be nice! good luck with it. Before you start your cigar box Check out the cigar box nation, you'll find alot of idea's there. Thanks again!

  • What song are you playing?

    Or just wingin' it?

    :D

  • Just making it up.

  • Then, my friend, I am utterly in awe of the blues you must have in your soul.

  • Thanks! Its really the open tuning thats making it sound that way. Play it open then 3rd fret then 5th fret up to the 12 th fret

7th fret is your turn around, back to open. Any open tuning will work. On guitar try ebeg#be Thanks for your comments.

  • Hehe, I'm a bassist.

Open tunings don't work so well there. :)

  • You got me there!!!

  • What tuning did you use for this one. I couldn't pick it out.

  • This has piezo? Nothing else added to get such a rich sound? No preamp?

  • Thanks!! Yeah its a shatten soundboard transducer. No pre amp but I do have some gain on the amp. The tuning is fcfc.

I tune them lower now so I don;t strain the neck.

  • What kind of string do you use? Electric, acoustic, nylon? Gauge? 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1 strings?

  • D Addario acoustic lights. I use the ADGB strings.

  • Ok thanks alot. great looking CBG btw, real nice sounding.

  • Thanks! Check out the Cigar box nation. lots of video's there and all things cigar box guitar. Thanks again.

  • it sounds so nice! \m/

  • Thanks!!

  • it looks sick dude nicely made.

  • Thanks!! Thanks for listening!!

  • Hard to believe:)) it sounds almost like that song! anyway, good job, old man!

  • That's the most original Led Zeppelin cover I've heard so far :D

is it "In my time of dying"?

  • Thanks! No,I just made it up. Just a easy three chorder.

  • Wow, really amazing sound... Never imagined a box guitar could have such a strong sound...

  • Thanks!! Thanks for listening!

  • sounds powerful lol

  • Thanks!!

  • This is a CBG that'll put lead in your pencil!!! Awesome CBG Lenny!!! \m/ \m/ keep em' comin

  • Wow. Great tone. I looked at the cigarboxnation and all they have is blueprints for a three string, could you somehow send me the specs for your four string there?

  • amazing wow i cant help on watching this video over and over again

  • Thanks for watching!!!!! I'm glad you like it. If you like this kind of thing check out cigar box nation. Thanks again!

  • very nice! What are the sound wholes for and how do they work? Also, where can you buy sound holes? (if thats what those speaker-looking this were?)

  • Thanks for watching! The soundhole inserts on this box are dobro soundhole inserts .I got them from Stuart Mc Donald online. They just let the sound out. Makes the box alittle louder. If you like this kinda thing check out cigarbox nation online. You'll find alot of like minded people lots of pic's plans and ideas. Thanks again!

  • thats one booming CBG baby....definitely harley style

  • Thanks for listening! Thanks for your comment!

  • Wow...that is amazing. Might have to try and make one myself.

  • awesome job on guitar!

  • Thanks!! Thanks for subscribing.

  • That sounds great man , Kind of inspired to go out and try make one for myself.

what type and gauge strings did you use on that one?

  • Thanks!Cool They are alot of fun to make.D Addario acoustic lights. The strings are adgb.

  • Thanks for the response man!

I actually made one today decided to use a old fender neck I had because I like to have some nice space out on the strings etc.

Just got to finish the wiring etc in the next day or 2 and it should be ready to rock and roll.

  • your welcome. Wow I bet it will be cool. I think making them is the biggest part of the fun.Its rewarding to create something. Have fun with that thang! Lenny

  • 4 strings, so what is the note progression up the next string wise? love that sound.

  • Well I'm not sure I do it right but I play it open adding a few notes at the third fret then I chord it with the slide up to the 5th fret then the 7th fret is like the turn around back to open.

  • Thanks!! I appreciate that.

  • You know some awesome tunes dude.

  • Thanks for the info, Great sound!

  • What is the tuning for slide guitar,is it some kind of open chord?

  • There are alot of tunings you can use.On this 4 stringer I'm using FCFC . Yes they do make a open chord most of the time. Thanks!

  • Hello lennypunell. It's me again. I am done with my cbg and need a tip if possible. Did you tape up the transducer and the input jack with copper tape? If yes...could you use aluminum tape instead copper tape and where exactly did you put the piezo transducer. Under the bridge? Thanks.

  • holy shit...that cbg sounds awsome...built from scratch?

what a good heavy tone from a box. I'm in process of making one...I doubt it's going to sound like this one though and mine is a 6string. I cheated...I used an old classical acoustig guitar neck for mine because I don't have the tools for cutting wood. Any tips...criticism is taken well. Good luck.

  • Thanks!! The box came from Harley.I tore it apart and rebuilt it alittle smaller.

A 6 stringer will be sweet.Mine has a Shatten soundboard transducer in it. I got it from Stuart Mc Donald.

I would say have fun with it. Don't be afraid to experiment.

Scotty's cigarbox site has some good idea's. might want to check there.Yahoo has a good cigarbox guitar forum. I bet it will sound Great. Thanks again

  • It'll be cool when I'm done. I'll post a video. I am followint scotty's site and I'm a member of the CBG yahoo group. Thanks for replying so fast and good luck on future projects.

  • :o it sounds very good, I wanna do one!

  • Thanks!! Scotties cigarbox site has instructions to get you started. If I can help let me know.

  • Ok, thanks for the advicement :D

In a school work I gonna do a single coil pick up for a guitar :D So I can use it for the cigar box guitar.

When I have time, I will take a look =)

  • Cool!!! Nice sliding!

  • Thanks!!

  • Sweet guitar, Sound nice, looks like 4 strings, how did you make it?

  • Thanks!!There are some detailed instructions on Scotties cigarbox page . That'll get you close. Then you can try anything on it that you can think up.

  • Nice work! Awesome sound, I love it.

  • Thanks for listening.

  • thats the tone im lookin for

  • Thanks! the pick up is a shatten soundboard transducer from Stu mac.I had alittle overdrive on the amp.

  • thnx

  • Do you think you could file down nails to make frets?

  • I've seen people do that, and then hold the nails from behind with rubberbands.

  • Yeah you could use nails or toothpicks even.I've painted frets on before.Doesn't matter too much for slide

  • Love the baritone sound! sounds spooky! but a good why!

  • Thanks!! it turned out better than I thought it would.

  • that's a really sweet guitar, has a great tone, and is very original

  • Thanks It was my 2nd one .I think I got lucky

  • WOW!

  • Thanks!!

  • this is awesome...love that deep sound with the slide...keep it up...good luck to you and your sound man

  • Thanks!!

  • dude that is awesome what kind of pickups

  • hey I noticed it has 4 strings so what kind of guitar would it be considered? it sounds amazing by the way!

  • cigar box guitar! lol, its not a Bass but it dose only have four strings. they are normally tuned to a,d,g and b.

  • Similar to tenor guitars which also have 4 strings.

  • Awesome lol

  • thanks!!

  • kick axe! my dad is a San Jac High Roller and had 2 give up banjo years back because o' his fingers (retired machinist)... i think i found a solution that fits him in more ways than 1.. i'm on it - thanks for the post! great git (& playin)!

  • Hey Thanks!! I hope it's something he might like. Check Scotty's cigarbox page for some more on box guitars. Thanks again.

  • Nice Job! Sounds Great! First Class!!! 5tars! & KUDOS!

  • Many thanks!!

  • that thing is a beast! great job!

  • Thanks!

  • hey, cool guitar, is sounds really good! does it make a big difference on the sound if the neck is fretted? i would like to build one as well, but maybe with frets, as i can play other stuff than just the slide and as i am used to them.

Some guys also make the frets out of toothpicks, other with normal metal frets. what is the best?

  • Thanks. This one has frets painted on. I've found that if you want to do anything other than slide. frets will really help the sound. I've only used metal frets. They are kinda easy to install. Stuart Mc Donald has some how to books on the filing . Thanks again.

  • Nice work!!! what cind of strings do use?

    Do you use guitar strings??

    great tone!!!!!!!

  • Thanks Yeah I use Dadario light acoustic strings. I put on the adgb strings. Thanks again!

  • If I made a 4 string, and put a set of bass strings on and, I Made a cheap piezo transducer pickup like do you think It wuld be good? I am gonna build my own cheap Flat Neck? would it stay in tune if I did the same desing U did for the tremolo?

  • great tone man but you should make a fretless one

  • Thanks!! This one is fretless. They're just painted on.Thanks for making me one of your favorites!

  • Kind of a dark dusty blues. Guess that is fitting for a HOG box guitar. Awsome job.

  • Thanks!!

  • What the fuck, thats probably cooler and probably sounds WAY better than my IBANEZ or LES PAULS guitars I have at home!

  • Thanks! I think I just got lucky with that one. Thanks for your comment.

  • great tone and great playing, what tuning and which strings do you use? I'm going to have to make one that was awesome!

  • Thanks!! The tuning is fcfc lately I've been using cgcg its alittle lower ,less strain on the neck. The strings are Dadario lights I use the adgb strings. Check out Scotty's cigarbox site they have some plans and alot of tips.Shane Speal has a good site too. Thanks for your comments.

  • That's so outrageously cool I can't even describe!

  • Thanks!! They are alot of fun. Thanks again!

  • That sounds better from my cheap les paul bought on e-bay :P

  • Thanks!! I appreciate that.

  • KICKS ASS MAN !!

  • Thanks!!

  • Holy shit. Nice!

  • Thanks!!

  • Yeah man!

  • awsome

  • wow it sounds too god to be true but geuss Stew mac did have some better piezo's then the do it yourself ones from radio-shack! keep up the good work bro. I hope to have my 6 string cbg up and going soon!

  • sounds great what pickup system is in it that can't be a piezo? it'sounds so good

  • Thanks! Yep it's a piezo. A schatten soundboard transducer. I got it from Stuart McDonald. I think it was about $35:oo

    Thanks for your comment!

  • Dude, that sounds amazing! What amp you playin' that baby through? I just gotta know.

  • Thanks! Its a old Crate G120XL. Its got 2 12's

and has been around the block. Thanks again!

  • I see that you have already answered my previous question in the 'comment history' I apologise for the redundency. When I return home from work I will retune my cbg and try to replicate the sound- Thanks for giving me something more to look forward to. The riddle has been answered and can't wait to get back home.

  • Thanks for your comment! Yeah the HD box was fcfc lately I've been using cgcg as its alittle less stress on the neck. Thanks for checking out my video's!

  • This looks like a great fun- Lenny, What is your cbg tuned too? What 4 strings did you wire this cbg with? (Harley Guitar) I eagerly await your reply-Thank you for your time and sharing this with us :-)
