Two little question. Is it worth getting 3Ds Max if I have no knowledge or whatsoever before hand? Secondly, does 3Ds Max really worth the $3,500 bucks? Seems way too costly for a 3d modeling program to me..

@TheForward999 I got 3Ds for free because I am a student. I don't know if you have to be at a certain school/college/university, but all you need to do is sign up at the autodesk website, which can be googled, and register. I think you get special deals, depending on your title, but I know for sure that students are free. otherwise, it will definetly be atleast $1000. (Just remembered you can check prices of their products on the site)

@hower4o I play the game second life and in the new version comming out in the fall you will be able to import mesh edited objects into the game except cars and other objects have to be inserted in peices if you want moving parts but in the fall all your 3ds max objects can be imported, used, scripted and sold. so its something to look into

@hower4o The answer you seek is yes. But you need to create a program that can load the models.

@hower4o we can make a model and animations but you have to import it into an engine (like unreal development kit) to put animations on the model then put htat in a 3d enviroment and map the keys to animations

@arielotx It doesn't use spacebar, spacebar is for playing the timeline. T^T I'm just starting to learn, and being a Maya user before, I'm now very very confused since someone said it was like Maya. SO WRONG. Pan = MMB drag, rotate = MMB Alt drag, LMB Alt doesn't do anything.... why??? when all the tools are the same?

@CodingMadeEasy Well as somebody without an art background and Max user. I would go for it. But along the way have taught myself some art stuff. Becomes more important as you go along. Especially when you get to making characters. But most people have a decent sense of what looks right. Also if not in a work environment would try all the major packages to see what suits you. (Maya, Lightwave, Cinema 4D etc.) hope this helps. :)

If you use the so called "Fps tool" walk tool then u can also yours the arrows on your keyboard to actually walk, nice for when you have builded a house to see if the scale of everythign is appropriate.

@Techn0Junki3 yes you can, but models alone are not enough, you need rigid-body physics to make them behave like objects and to be able to use them in your physics engine. when you dont have the time for programming all this horrible things you can use Half Life engine, you can then simply make your models, convert them with free software into the format so that the engine can use it, and play with your models IN GAME, the best HL2 game is GarrysMod,better watch some Garrysmod videos on Youtube

@ookamidigital Yeah, I use hotkeys for pretty much all of what I do, I don't use the viewcube or steering wheel or whatever. The hotkey for pan viewing is by clicking in the middle mouse button. If you don't know what that is, its just the scrolly thing in the middle and you have to click down on it and then move your mouse. If you need any other hotkeys I can tell you, just reply back
