Wow I used to love this show. As a seven year old, I watched it. I watched it for many years until it was canceled by NBC. I would still watch the reruns on USA as well.
intense. that's amazing how the candidates are able to respond and react at such a fast paced show. that's amazing. were you ever a contestant on the show?
Oh ok, I stand corrected then! I was just going by what I had heard. Australia has always touted it as being a successful game show export (and Deal or No Deal too) lol. I should have known by your userid that you would be an expert :)
On the Australian version the host gave the correct answer straight away if someone got it wrong, but personally I think Jim Perry kept it straight and simple (and exciting too!)
Jim Perry was perhaps one of the best game show hosts of the 1980s in the United States. At least "Sale of the Century" was our show before other countries, including Australia, stole it from us.

You're wrong. Sale of the Century was originally made in Australia, and it was devised by Australian Reg Grundy. America and other countries then made their own versions
Sale of the Century was originally a Jones-Howard Production in the USA back from 1969-1974. It was hosted by Jack Kelly and later by Joe Garigiola. NBC TV in the USA asked Reg Grundy for a version of Sale of the Century in the 1980s after they saw the success of the revamped version in Australia (Barber was better than Ridge). Sorry if I sound pissed but when someone challenges my game show knowledge...lol
In fact, Grundy wasn't able to obtain rights to $otC until 1980, about 7 years after the original US version ended...his 70s series, The Great Temptation, was a clone that Grundy produced when he couldn't (initally) get the rights.
I agree with you on everything! Jim did hosted card sharks Jim was really into the game his speed rounds was amazing. Its hard to find hosts that are into the game these days
it was 10 days after that actually, and anybody who watched the show would know that that was the only time the cash jackpot got in2 6 figures, so they could probably figure that out
Poor Dawn...I actually have the complete episode on tape, and although the clip here ends before Jim says goodbye to her, you can see that she's looking a bit tearful when he does.
Incidentally, the clip elsewhere on YT of David Rogers winning $107K? It was actually 8 shows after this ep.
So close!!! :-( I think I actually remember watching this one and literally screaming at the TV cause I wanted her to win so bad. I must have been 8 or 9 years old at the time!!!
Nice clip. Used the exact same ticking sound of The $XX,000 Pyramid. :-)
Now let's see the end of the original master of the March 24, 1989 series finale (as grossly opposed to the network-run version which was haphazardly interrupted by an NBC News Special Report!!)!
great quality here. do you have any more quality game shows?

I concur. This was the coolest show on TV. I loved "Sale of the Century"! And "Scrabble", too---seeing as though they were made by the same company.
