I'm a DC guy,I have been a fan of DC since I was 6 years old back in 1980, I like some of Marvel's stuff, but I have never really cared for Marvels characters like I do the ones in the DCU. Just my opinion.
The X-men were great until around 1990 and then they launched the second X-men book thus diluting the product. And then launching more and more books till there was mutants everywhere and it got impossible to follow.
Marvel need to cancel most of the X-Books and just go back to Uncanny, one "young team" book and Wolverine and NO MORE.
and they risk the same thing happening with their latest cash cow The Avengers.
good point about finding out about a characters history on the web plus trades and most books end up in bargain bins its so easy to find out about characters and books
i rarely agree with you on bendis but i love this "show" i think you guys make very valid points
someone gave me 2 gl trades revenge of GLs and wanted HJ and there points i was really confused about him being shot down and how long he was there and when but mostly i found Hal insufferable
I hope they keep Blackest night in its own books rather than it be a line wide "event" but since Marvel seems to run everlasting events so DC needs to compete i guess.
Marvel has an event every year now and with Dark Reign running from Secret Invasion theres not even a break now to tell actual character stories.
I'm hoping that the Superman books focus on the characters, its something that Robinson and Rucka have a good history of.
Ya didn't get a response about other DC books because they are pretty lame on the whole.
Aside from GL franchise, Jonah Hex, formerly JSA and now the Superman titles taking a nose dive, DC is lacking. They axed Blue Beetle & Manhunter two compelling books with a solid to cult following.
I know, I wanna like DC, but man are they making it hard. I mean jeez even if Blue Beetle wasn't selling to their standards it's a book worth keeping around, simply to establish BB.
Seriously Marvel has got their shit together creatively (Price points that's another story..) Their Cosmic books are strong, the tried and true Thor, Cap, Ironman spectacular, 70s heroes Cage, Ironfist strong showings etc..
ya it's too bad that there are douchers out there who can't conduct themselves in a civil manner when someone says something they disagree with. I might completely disagree with you guys on the issue of GL, but I still totally respect your opinions and recognize that you do have a point and you're not just speaking from ignorance, it's not like you were being dicks about it. As for supes.... judging by the reaction you guys got, I'm not even going there!
Yeah, I had to drop the hammer on ya, but, you know I meant no offense of course.
Anyway, isn't any comic inaccessible to new readers when the comic is in the middle of a story? Cause that's where Green Lantern is. It's literally smack-dab in the middle of an arc.
Yeah, the inaccessibility of comics is definitely not exclusive to Green Lantern, and that's a huge problem with comics as a whole. However, the recent issue of Green Lantern was so attractive to look at, this may have been a first issue for some people. If it were my first issue, I would have been dissapointed enough to not pick up another issue because it would be so confusing.
Fair enough.

Thanks for the shout out Elliot.
You brought up a good point that even I myslef looked over...... The GL books (supes maybe) are not that "NEW READER FREINDLY".
But the countless Xbooks that kids flock too havent been NRF in over 20 years. Literaly.
The majority of books that kids eat up are not NRF. However that doesnt excuse it either.
With the net it only takes a few minutes to find out whats going on in any title these days. Adults arent stupid & kids are a minority demographic.

Good point mason, although it took Joss Whedon to jettison decades of continuity to get me to read an X-Book again.

Theres plenty of stuff that DC is doing wrong..you just happened to pick on some of the stuff that they're doing right lol.
I know the point your making, I just think that comics being complex is fine, hell I liked The Invisibles :P
The Krypton story could have been more concise but no way are Johns or Robinson as decompressed as Bendis stuff.
