My favorite part of the "War" were the rules of engagement our air forces were forced to fight under. We could not bomb airfields or SAM sites because we were afraid that we might kill Soviet/Chinese/Cuban Technical Advisors and thusly offend those nations. Even thoough none of those nations would even admit to having advisers present. It was like the whole war effort was one huge deleted scene from "How I Learned to Love the Bomb".

I have hsitorical record on my side. Vietnam signed a peace treaty with the USA in 1972. The US was able to leave Vietnam without a single military loss. WE were no longer at war with Vietnam by 1972 by PEACE TREATY! If you don't know this littlemonkey read a book. US did not lose Vieetnam war, Vietnam signed a peace treaty with us and South Vietnam. It was North Vietnam that broke that treaty to attack SVN. This is the political and military relalities.

The basic servicde rifle is always the Best collection of tradeoffs. I have made Xring shots with the M16-A2 at 600 yds. Having more ammunition 3.5 times more than the M-14 is to me (ex-11 A B H and M) quite desirable. Then there is the training aspect. Quanitative superiority is no substitute for qualilty and skill. Bullets only work when the target is hit. The current M-16 is a good rifle.

Doubt it. The 1903 and or 1917 Sprignfield were 5 round, shoulder fired, bolt action riles. The Garand held only 8 rounds and gacve a tell all command with a "TWANG" when its last round extracted and ejected the magazine well. The Thompson was too heavy. The M14 was the best rifle that ssaw service in ZThe Republic That Once Was Vietman.

Afterwords the Marines went out to NVA battlelines and found mass graves of thousand and thousands of dead NVA. 20% of NVA forces abandoned the fight and went AWOL. The Marines had no choice but to stay and fight, the NVA ran away, those that were not killed. Many NVA soldiers did not have a mark on them, the concussion from US bombs scrambled their brains inside their heads while deep in their tunnels, their organs liquified.
