  • most versatile head i've ever played through......i bought two!

  • Awesome tone! Do you know if the volume pot is 250k ?

  • @BrasilGuitar That's a great question and to be honest, I don't know if it's 250k or 500k. I would guess 250k, because this is the best I've ever heard a Duncan JB sound in the bridge position. It's a little darker than I've heard in other guitars, so I'm guessing the pot may have alot to do with that (or maybe this guitar is just darker, not sure.)

  • Hi mate, I'm behind a Stratocaster model guitar, because I sell my fender telecaster low because it was not needed, this gives the size Charvel things to play van halen, ozzy, bon jovi. the darkness etc?, I talk about the Japanese Charvel San Dimas. a greeting and thank you very much. Greetings

  • @alpilon23 Hi! I've never tried the Made in Japan version of these Charvel guitars, so I can't comment there. But I will say that I absolutely love my yellow USA Charvel San Dimas! It's absolutely perfect for van halen, ozzy, etc... I use it for all kinds of music, but it does the '80s stuff killer!

  • Great sound. I'll be helping myself to some of those licks, hope you don't mind. Also, what's a natty light?

  • @owlsrfun47 Thanks man! Feel free to take whatever! Natural Light is a cheap beer I drink. LOL

  • NATTY LIGHT BROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • This amp sounds REALLY great when you play it! Do you know exactly what the stock Celestions are that you're using here? I can't get over the sound! For the price, this amp slays. I'm sorry but other british sounding amps that try to do the JTM45/Plexi thing sound good too, but not not enough to justify spending thousands more. Awesome job!

  • @cordanscedo Hey thanks man! The stock Marshall labeled "Vintage" speakers are most likely just regular 'ole Vintage 30s, but these have been big time broken in and are smooth.

  • Quickly becoming my recent fave site. Thanks!

  • @owlsrfun47 Wow, thanks man!

  • hey sarge, i edcided to go ahead and buy this thanks for the info on this amp.

  • @crice6505 Cool man! It's A great amp!

  • hehehe... WANKfest... ;-)

  • How is that San Dimas treating you?

I just got one and I don't think the action is that low, I can easily fit a pick between the string and the frets at any point along the neck, but I'm getting a lot of Fret buzz. My other guitar is a Les Paul and I dig in to the strings hard, do you have to play the Dimas differently, not dig in so much cuz of the Floyd and light strings?

    Thanks for any advice

  • @bobbylee333 Hey! Man, the San Dimas is still kicking! It's a killer guitar that I play alot live and at home. I love the darn thing!

I'm no getting any fret buzz or anything on mine. The action isn't super low, but it's definitely not high on mine and I don't get any buzz or anything. Maybe your neck has a "back bow" or something? Have you had someone set it up?

  • @SgtThump Thanks for replying man! I haven't had it setup yet, I just bought it last weekend. Something seems wrong with the neck, I'm not sure if it is back bow or what. It seems like there is a dip in the center of the fretboard, between frets 5-10, I can actually feel a bump there in the neck. It almost feels like the Truss Rod blew up in there and is pushing the wood out. I love the thing otherwise. Nice playing as always... Where is that Marshall Class 5?

  • @bobbylee333 Ouch, yeah that doesn't sound good. A dip in the center can usually be straightened out by tightening the truss rod (you probably know that), but if you can feel it, it sounds like something bigger than that. Best of luck with it.

I ended up returning the Class 5. Great amp, but I didn't have much use for it.

  • Hey Sarge....Man, every time I tune in, you have a new amp....Guess you've tried them all just about...Well, what do you truly think of the Renegade? Will it do Classic Rock...Obviously it will do 80s Big Hair Rock...How about..Bad company..ZZ Top...Skynyrd....BTO?//.....Is it too modern voiced for those styles?

    Thanks

  • @guitarman1956 Hey man! I think the Renegade will definitely cover classic rock. It's somewhat Marshally, but has a "boutique" vibe to it. I mean, it's smoother with more lower mids than the typical Marshall in my opinion.

That said, it would definitely do classic rock, but it depends on if you like a raunchy tone or a smoother tone. It still has bite, but is somewhat "polished" sounding to me. GREAT AMP!

  • smooth tone!

  • Have you ever had any issues with your Renegade at home or live?

I'm seriously thinking of selling my Mesa Roadster for this. I tried one out at MIAC and was blown away. The only thing I'm afraid of is reliability, it's made in China:S where as the Roadster is handmade in the USA.

    Thank

    JP

  • @tenaciousjp I never had any issues at all with it. I think the Renegade absolutely rocks, but I wouldn't trade a Roadster head for it. No way. I don't think the Renegade can do anything the Roadster can't, can it?

  • @SgtThump Well from what I heard at MIAC, it had way better cleans. The Distortion wasn't fizzy, it was mid rangy and defined. You could use the same settings for a lead and rhythm and get great results. Where as the Roadster, you have 4 channels, but the distortion is too fizzy and hard to tweak and sounds horrible at low volumes(even more fizz). it gets thin for leads too. I personally like the renegade more, the tube mix knob is more versatile then just switching 6l6's with EL34's.

  • Sounds killer. It's perfectly OK to drink cheap beer if you spend all your money on high end gear. :)

  • @hastyberford Thumbs up from me! I've been a fan of cheap beer since my young days when I couldn't afford a darn thing!

  • Nice sound! A question about the San Dimas: have you used this guitar in a live situation? I had bad experiences in the past with the JB under distortion. The sound from this pickup just "disappeared"! Thanks.

  • @goldeneagle701 Thanks! I've used this guitar live ALOT. Check out some of my other videos to see me playing it live. It performs very well!

The JB is much nicer sounding in this guitar than any other I've had them in. Someone just recently told me these Charvels have 250k pots, which explains why I like it so much now. The JB can be bright, but it's nice in this one.

  • @SgtThump

I've seen the live videos: good stuff and good sound from the JB as well. I'm thinking about buying a San Dimas for about 1,5 year now, I will have to make a decision. Anyway thanks for your clips! Greetings from Europe.

  • Hi,

I've been watching your videos. Great stuff!

How do the gain voicing of the renegade compares to the tourmaster?

  • @pedrozepelim Cool man, thanks! I've never compared a Tourmaster and Renegade side-by-side. I had them at different times and that makes it really hard for me to compare them. I'm not real good at going from memory.

I "think" the Tourmaster was more refined sounding. Like polished or something. The Renegade is a little rougher around the edges, but still smooth and stuff.

  • i like the pre fender ones

  • Hey Thump, awesome tones and awesome playing as usual! How do you think the Renegade compares to your OD100? From what I can tell, then Renegade is downright incredible for the $1000 that it costs. Is there really $2500 worth of extra tone & features in an OD?

  • Hey thanks! Some people will think the OD100 is worth the extra cash. I know it's super expensive, but man, it's a SUPER badass amp.

The Renegade is awesome too. I'm not sure if there are any amps that sound as good as the Renegade at the $999 price point.

Personally, the OD100 is better to me. The build is obviously better, but it also has a certain quality to the tone that is hard to beat. I think it's may be my favorite amp ever.

  • As usual, great playing and tone Thump. I have the Egnater Mod 50 and it is the last amp I will ever need. I would put it up against anything.

  • Part exchanged my Rebel 30 today due to the effects loop noise. I got the Renegade instead, no noise from loop but just wondered if you get fan noise when idle?

  • Yeah, the fan on the Renegade can be annoying at real quiet bedroom volumes. Of course, you can't hear it at gig volumes or even louder home volumes.

  • @SgtThump Thanks, just making sure I haven't got a faulty fan but if this is normal, well that's ok. Must admit that the Renegade is soooo much better than the Rebel 30 for not much more money. I love it.

  • Good. Congrats! It's a great amp IMO. Also, I've heard there have been a few complaints about the noisy fan and maybe they were working on getting a quieter fan or something. You may want to contact them to see if they can fix it or something.

It doesn't bother me enough to go through all that, but yeah, it can be annoying at quiet levels for sure.

  • Do you get any extra noise from this amp when using the effects loop? Tried 2 Rebel 30 heads and both gave a lot of noise so I was thinking of trying the Renegade.

  • No, I don't get any extra noise at all when using the effects loop. Seems like I remember reading something about the loop being noisy on the early Rebels, but I can't remember for sure.

I know my Renegade is super quiet.

  • I smell royalty checks! Great riffing dude, I'm still shopping for heads and im no hurry. The egnater sounds pretty good. Man I could ask you alot of ?'s about the heads in the vids you've posted. I know its all down to personal preference. I fell in love immediately with the Diezel Herbert though!

Until I saw the freggin price tag! Still searching for now. Top of my list, Bogner xtc, 6505+, Randall Lynch Box. so far lol. peace

  • I think most people would be surprised at just how well the 6505+ can hold it's own against alot of the big boy $2k+ amps! Seriously.

  • @SgtThump exactly bro, that is why the 6505+ is at the top of my list. Versatility and price, I still *must* hear it in person though. I am looking forward to it bigtime. Take it easy dude

  • Sounds awesome! I'm expecting mine next week! I definitely can't wait until it arrives!

    Great clip!

  • I'm thinking of getting the 1x12 combo for practice, thanks good to hear u liking it , I know u own some nice amps , so very valuable info. happy holidays

  • Hey thanks. Happy Holidays to you too.

  • I think i want the renegade for christmas.

  • I'm not going to act like the Renegade is the best amp in the world for everyone, but dude, it's impressive to me. I really like it. I've had great luck with it live, great tones recorded, and great low volume tones at home.

  • Hey Chris ? Post some more vids with the Charvel ? I am liking that axe.

  • Hey! I love this guitar man!
