  • This video is simply not necessary, a person with an IQ above room temperature should understand videogame music, by definition is music.

The real question is whether people value it as much as music released by itself.

  • @TheChieftain77 Hence the "does it count?".

  • @SilverMongooseVideos

Does it count as music? As I said before by definition it is music. I can dislike something as much as I physically can and it wouldn't stop it from being what it is (I do like a good deal of music from videogames for the record).

If "does it count" means "do I value it as much as music released by itself" I would say it depends on the OST/album just like all music.

Stick figures count as drawings, elevator music counts as music etc.

  • @TheChieftain77 Well the "does it count" more means "does it have as much value, and/or is it as respectable as non-video game music, such as that of main-stream artists", if you get my drift. It's just easier to say the former. :)

  • I like Zelda and Sonic music they are all great....sometimes

  • Mother 3 has my favorite soundtrack. Especially songs like natural killer cyborg.

  • Legend of Zelda on the NES I love the main theme for it :D and the Halo theme. Both of those are good :)

  • i learned how to play some of the twisted metal small brawl songs on my guitar

and some of my favorite gaming soundtracks are from :twisted metal small brawl, sonic the fighters, and gyromite

  • I recently began playing the Castlevania games after watching the Angry Video Game Nerd's 4 part review of some of the games, and I have to point out that the music is incredible, especially in Rondo of Blood for the PC-Engine. Song from those games like Bloody Tears, Vampire Killer, Divine Bloodlines, Wicked Child, The Dance of the Holy Man & Beginning are some of the best songs I have heard in my life, I would love it if they put them on the radio.

  • Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I fell in love with the first installment in terms of gameplay and soundtrack, and years later, once I picked up the second and heard the Sky Station Galaxy theme upon starting it for the first time, it literally screamed: "Welcome back!" to me.

And then I cried. It was just so beautiful!

  • Coming from someone in Gr.9 piano (there are only 11 grades) video game music definitely does count. Music is music, and whatever idiot said it was soiled by its appearance in a video game isn't worth listening to.

  • castlevaina's bloody tears is one of the best song ever made

  • @mangafan0101 That's another good example. I have yet to play a castlevania game but I still think Bloody Tears and Vampire Killer are great pieces.

  • I say that Video Game Music dose count as music. Some of my favorite sound tracks like Kingdom Hearts 1&2, some songs from Super Smash Brothers Brawl like the trophy mode, another I like from different Sonic games, and a lot more that I can name bt those are some video games music that I listen to.

  • i love video game music, supradarky has an awesome channel of tonnes of VG music i've never heard, i listen to them when im working. also i totally get what u mean about walking into a lecture theatre with music making it beautiful, music can make anything beautiful :)

  • the singer for crush 40, Johnny Gioelli is also the lead singer for Hardline and Axel Rudi Pell so if you wanna listen to both of these band i suggest songs like Taking Me Down by Hardline and Take the Crown by Axel Rudi Pell. AMAZING SONGS.

  • My favorite soundtrack for a game series is easily Starfox. The Corneria theme is epic.

  • @crazyfooInc Corneria is indeed awesome. One of my favourite VG tracks for sure.

  • That's an interesting thing you point out.

I just wanna say that in every media, whether it is in movies, cartoons or video games, music plays an important part.

for instance if you take Bladerunner,The Terminator or Star Wars, the music does count. It gives an atmosphere but also an identity to the movie.

It's the exact same thing with games such as RPG(FF,CT..),action games(MGS) or war game(the medal of honor series)

    so yes music counts

  • no more my take?

  • None right now. I do plan on continuing the series though.

  • :-)

  • YES they count!!! My favorite is the Ocarina of Time soundtrack....... I also like "Bloody Tears" In Castlevania 2, Simon's Quest.

  • The fact that a lot of songs are published into Albums is even more proof, as the sound tracks can get labels.

    Favorite Soundtracks:

    Brawl

    Pokemon Heart Gold

Megaman 9 (Staff Roll Song is Brilliant)

  • i think it counts a lot.

    favs are:

    Bloody Tears (castlevania 2)

    Vampire killer (castlevania 1)

    super mario bros. 1 theme

and that song from the Mega Man 2 airman stage.

  • I think VG music is very important. Especially back in the snes/nes days, where they were unable to have voice acting, so they used text instead. Developers worked around this by using VG music to set the mood, and atmosphere within the game. It describes the emotion of the characters and the situation that adds more suspense. Top Favs: Metal Gear Solid 3 Shadow of the Colossus Katamari Damacy Final Fantasy Jet Set Radio Future Legend of Zelda Secret of Mana Chrono Trigger and many more :)
  • I like the point about before voice acting.

  • I do believe video game music counts.

Some of my favorites are from the contra series and probably my absolute favorite is the Lower Norfair theme in Super Metroid.

The Metal Remix of it is Very Good as well as the Original

  • it really depends what game tracks you're talking about. Ones that are varied and show actual emotion i could see as being considered music. However, this is not the case for most of the stuff found in games. You have to remember that music isn't just a collection of noises that sound good together. Real music has to have emotion. Complexity and how catchy it is means nothing.

  • I can see your points. Being just catchy or just complex certainly doesn't make music.

Though, I am curious as to what "stuff found in games" you are referring to.

  • i had the banjo kazzoie and tooie sound tracks

  • i have a zelda sound track in my car cd player right now lol i love it

  • Which?

  • um can ya please tell me the songs you used in this video please?

  • Its in the description.

  • i have the ocarina of time soundtrack in my car but i also own one that has songs from all the zelda games.

  • Cool. You mean the one with the red label? Its like...Zelda through the Ages or something?

  • no its got a green label and it says "nintendo sound history series: zelda the music" and it has screen shots from like 7 zelda games.

  • Yes, I do remember it was green. I was always tempted to buy that online.

  • i got it brand new for $12. i looked online and it was way more expensive if i remember right?

  • Gee I don't remember. This was like 5 years ago I think... It was probably closer to $30 though.

  • yeah i just checked, its around $25 but wow my other one that i also got for 12 is going for 60 lol

  • Video game music definitely counts, I mean why wouldn't it? I love a lot of Megaman music (especially 2), Zelda of course, Castlevania has great tracks, and Sonic Adventure has awesome music as well as the original Sonic games. That just names a few!

  • Comment removed

  • i have the snes doom music on my ipod

  • Oh, it counts, that's for sure. These composers are no different than the people that make music for movies, and no one would call that noise, that's for sure.

My favorite game series Soundtrack-wise are Zelda, Mega Man, Sonic, Star Fox, Metal Gear Solid, and Halo. Each of these have vastly different sounds, but each does their genera of music justice and fit the games perfectly, like a glove. I've never played MGS, but I LOVE the music, lol.

  • Ya, I feel that by saying that it isn't music you are insulting the composers that work very hard on this music.

  • Song of storms is the best video game soundtrack evoar In my opinion.

  • I definitely recommend Terranigma on the SNES, which sadly didn't come out in the USA.

  • Never heard of it so I looked it up. Kinda looks like a cross between Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana. If I ever move to a PAL region I'll definitely pick it up.

  • There are just too many games with magnificent soundtracks... Final Fantasy Zelda GoldenEye 64 Turok 2 God of War Resident Evil Onimusha Devil May Cry Metroid & Metroid Prime Conker BFD Half-Life 2 etc.^^
  • 4:00 you made a great point!!

  • Maybe there will be something called 'Kirby In Concert' in 2012! ;-p

  • Video game music is amazing and it definitely does count. All of my top 10 favorite games have an AMAZING soundtrack. I cant really pick a favorite but some good ones are

    Ys

    Mega Man

    Zelda

    Mario

    Final Fantasy

    many many many more

  • YS?

  • yes Ys. They are kinda like Zelda games. The music is really great. Look up Ys Book I&II

  • Ah, that is some pretty good music.

  • try the games out. They are really good. Ys Book I&II is available on the Wiis Virtual Console for 800 points

  • Ya. I did actually see it on DS a while ago as well. I don't particularly like using virtual console. Hopefully I'll find the original or just find a good copy of the DS one someday.

  • Earthbound has an amazing soundtrack. Every song, from the New Age Retro Hippie theme to Pollyana is beautiful.

    And Pokey Means Buisness ROCKS!!!!

  • Definitely counts in my book. I took my dad to Video Games Live and he loved it. Those concerts are really getting people to realize that video game music "counts". I think 90% of people that see a Video Games Live concert will retract their statements.

  • I hope someday to go to a concert like that.

  • Check out the video I did for it a few months back. Dinky Dana's trip to the concert. You would love it!

  • Awesome. Gave me the chills.

  • all hail silver mongoose! the greatprphet of tha truth! :P great video

  • w00t yeah mario galaxy music is beautiful! but you forgot metroid metal as a band.

  • Super Mario Galaxy definitely has a good soundtrack. To be honest, I wasn't wowed by a couple of the songs at first (like the main one on the space station) but after a couple hours of playing the game it certainly grew on me. Can't get it out of my head!
