If you can't stand on your feet because you keep getting your legs swept then your punching isn't as effective. You should take into account that there are not any rules in real life like there is in MMA. A lot of real techniques are too dangerous to compete with and would cripple their opponent. MMA looks like stamina and brute strength. Not all martial arts emphasize in that. Others rely on pressure points and don't fight strength against strength.
