baby birds dont drink!!!! did you ever saw parent bird bringing water to little ones? thay get water from food he might drown this way what you doing!!!!!
@laimis777 Well, "baby" really isn't the right word for this guy; it's more of a teenage robin that's already left the nest, and so definitely drinking water by now.
Thanks! :) Though, even though we called it a "baby", this robin was actually quite a bit older (more like a teenager) and was already in the process of leaving the nest. It could already fly and everything!
Plus, I actually heard that the "mother abandoning it" thing isn't actually true... I don't know forsure though! I'll have to contact an ornithologist. ;)
@LittleDende yeah... actually the whole "mom abandoning baby" thing seems to be a myth. from what ive read online, they say that birds recognize their young like humans do--through sight and sound.:) cute lil birdie tho
and this is pretty much the only way to give your pet baby robing water.......unless you have a little, very shallow stream with nonflowing water, gently push your birds head down until they get the message to drink from it......i had a robin who looked exactly like this one--her name was Frighful and we did so much together--bike rides, walks working on my fort---such a sad day when she flew away, i cried for weeks. Yes i admit that
to water them i just soak their food cuz if u do what they were doing there is a possibility that the water could go in itsnostrils and they dont need too much water
You can give them water, just don't force it down their throats. This guy was obviously dehydrated.
Robin parents follow their fledglings around and feed them until they can fend for themselves. If it's hot and dry though, they usually don't get enough water from the food.
The whole "don't give baby birds water" thing is referring to syringe feeding -- when you have an orphaned bird who won't eat on its own. (This should only be done once you know what you're doing.)
really? why? what are you supposed to give them? I'm asking cause one day my cat attacked a baby bird and me and my brother tried to take care of his wounds but in the end he didn't survive. We took the baby bird to a vet nearby and he said we could give him water.... but he didn't survive the night... :S I'd hate this happened again, what do you do in such case?
Actually, water won't hurt a baby bird. I've raised birds all my life, from parakeets to sun conures, quaker parrots and cockatoos, you can't expect birds to simply get their moisture, they do indeed drink water just as any other creature.
The little bird that died likely died from shock due to being attacked, sometimes the signs of shock in a bird aren't obvious right away but will set in a few hours later, also, if the cat bit it, cat saliva can kill a bird. There may have been no avoiding it.
you are talking to the people who feed their ferret hot peppers then laugh hysterically while it is trying to get water in a narrow glass just out of reach that is sitting directly above a bowl they could have poured it into if they cared - they find it funny to torture animals, so don't expect that they would care what they were feeding the robin - it was probably bleech for all we know.
Giving water down the beak to a baby bird is a good way to aspirate and kill it. Unfortunately many well intentioned people find this out the hard way.
he doesnt want water! he wants food! hes begging! I've raised numerous robins. What he wants is food. Poor little guy is probably confused about why he ain't gettin any.
Try to feed it worms!

Cute :) Don't let its mother abandon it after seeing you feed it. Because if you touch it then the mother bird will abandon it.
