You should NEVER take this version down EVER!! INCRDEIBLE & CLASSIC !! This is an extremely well written song as it has two meanings. When you get it, reply. Until then, ENJOY !!!
@duncanstpt yea beautiful the rolling stone encyclopedia of rock has a chapter on the pretenders [ but the rolling stone history of rock doesnt since it was issued in the early 1970s before the pretenders existed as a group ]
@ACDCisMYlyf Martin Chambers rox imo and he seems to be enjoying himself...soooo what's the problem? He made a nice recovery after dropping his right stick <3 and he pushes the beat , not dragging it like Ringo..besides Chrissie liked him and dats all dat counts
And to think ... Chrissie Hynde was a student on the campus of Kent State University (Ohio) on May 4, 1970 - the day those four students lost their lives in a hail of bullets. Alabama head football coach Nick Saban was a player on Kent State's football team. (He was definitely on campus the day it happened.) What happened was bad enough, but if Chrissie and Nick had been in the wrong place at the wrong time, we would have lost both of these incredible talents. Life is truly precious.
@openwaterdude I like the idea of a revolution...The powers that be...they'll fall to ruin someday...take that you evil world leaders and war mongerers
This =is= the original lineup. The performance is in Philadephia in July, 1985, as it was shot for MTv. The sound was pretty rugged for the first several bands.
@funkbebe Good heavens, have you got her wrong! Chrissie's political views are somewhere to the left of Hilary Clinton's. She's certainly no neo-nazi, nor a fan of Mr. Limbaugh's.
@debbieawebb no, two of the original members died of drug related complications only a few years prior to this concert if I remember the years correctly. Only Chrissie and Martin Chambers(the drummer) remain of the original group
yeah, but in the context of this song, she is refering to being back on the chain gang of the dreaded fight for love."now I'm back on the chain gang"....a slave to finding that one, to finding peace, and to finding, hopefully, happiness.
In the US (especially in the South) it was common to have prisoners work on roads. To keep them from running off they would chain them all together. People driving by would see them working (which added to the punishment). It became known as a "Chain Gang".
