@TheFighter126 Nowadays, we use a GoPro Hero HD and a Muvi Veho Atom for most of our underwater photography. Go ahead and Google them - they're excellent products.
@bilihuset Agreed, not much steam to be seen, as the engine has lots of hours on it. (Almost worn out). Most of the exhaust blows by the cylinders instead of up the stack. But a newer video can be seen here of the same boat with a new engine (see three rc steamboats) and it now runs better and makes more steam exhaust up the stack. Thanks for watching!
Steam engines are very cool things. Simple, easy to understand, and easy to take care of. I am currently trying to figure out a way to put a steam engine on a plane, where the piston-spun wheel spins a prop fast enough. Then add some servos and what not for the elevators and the rudder. If you're interested in how I'm going to design it messege me.
i put a mamod marine single into a midwest 50 foot harbor tug--lights , rudder, no throttle or reverse-put the exhaust up thru the smokestack -20 minutes on 2 esbit tabs- when its running out of heat it starts blowing little smoke rings- now ive got a RF that makes the rudder go wild when it touches the water - ive swapped out the entire radio so its something else- love building little steam boats -yours is awesome
Finally see a steam engine powered r/c model. I am currently scratch building a 1/144th scale Titanic model (will be around 6ft long) for R/C use. Was going to use her as a troop transport/cargo transport for big guns r/c combat but I am leaning towards reproducing dual triple expansion steam engines in 1/144th scale along with a low pressure turbine if it proves feasiable.
Wow -- a steam turbine that small would be impressive. I'm thinking you might have to stick with an electric motor for the center screw. In any case, it sounds like a great project! Post to YouTube when it's completed!
Some particulars: Original power plant was Wilesco D49 Vee-twin engine and boiler. Due to its limited steam generating capacity the boiler was replaced by a Cheddar Marine Puffin vertical boiler resulting in longer run times and a moderate speed increase. A propane / butane camp stove disposable cannister provides the heat source.

@railrdr523 Yes - it was a response to Milner62's desire to put a turbine (along with twin reciprocating steam engines) in his Titanic model.

What is the engine in that? I have got a hull and R/C, but need an steam engine for it!

Pete:
My dad, the builder of the model, responds:
Some particulars: Original power plant was Wilesco D49 Vee-twin engine and boiler. Due to its limited steam generating capacity the boiler was replaced by a Cheddar Marine Puffin vertical boiler resulting in longer run times and a moderate speed increase. Hope that helps!
Rapidnadion 4 years ago
Yeah, I've bought a horizontal boiler with a Mamod type engine, then I'm fitting a Wilesco steam valve.

@Rapidnadion
Your dad built one fine lil' steamboat!
(Keep up the maintenance, though, or in a few years you'll have to call her the "African Queen".)
