The Engine was extremely simply, allowing easy modeling, map making, and dish out super beautiful graphics and texture without the need of a high end computer system. That's true game engineering at its best.

Personally I have not experienced more glitches in the source engine than in other engines, and when I have it has been the fault of the developers, and not the engine. Secondly, Java isn't an engine. It's a programming language. Minecrafts engine was created using Java as the programming language in the same way that the Source engine was created using C++.

But take CoD out of the equation, and you have a 60 FPS online capable engine that can render high quality graphics and support A 6 hour single player mode, along with about 30 multiplayer maps. That's the definition of what an engine should be.

Well... Fabula Nova still holds the crown for the most powerful engine ever. But you get the idea.

@MoterCrozz The Fabula Nova (Actually Crystal Tools engine. Sorry, I got it wrong the first time) can run CGI graphics and blend them seamlessly into gameplay in runtime with no loading screens. They can do pretty much anything they want with a game. It can also adapt to other games other than XIII, which is why the entire Fabula Nova Crystalis series can/will run on this engine. Check out a gameplay trailer for FF versus-XIII. Absolutely mind blowing realism and graphics.

@DevilGuyUK thats not what a game engine is. cod has low texture mapping, console 640p, no destructable environment, horrible physics that probably contributes to the lack of vehicles, no 3-d lighting, no volumetric smoke, bad lag issues, bad draw distance..... but it has good fps. and yes, there are games that run all this and more on console, naughty dog engine. it even has a real-time ocean and sand engine. and the best motion blur of any game.
