  • great reel, greatest Irish folk singer

  • you have to remember leo keegan casey. he died for his country, patriot , scholar , poet.

  • Jaysus if it wasn't for the accent I'd swear he was a viking.

  • a prod at heart

  • @golfclub48 hahahahhaaha

  • james larkin a great man, honored by another great man, luke kelly.

  • Does anyone know where i can find James larkins Speech with the phrase "The rising of the moon"?

  • @pbaker8291indigenouuts people in US/CAN/NZ/AUS.have similar claims enforced and recognised by intl courts and paid, irish diaspora are the indigenous people of IRL surely irish are not disqualified because they are white. issue is not with brit gvt(taxpayer) but with those who profited through illegal inheritance.Al Capone was convicted for theft(tax evasion) not for those he murdered (if it was his descendants they would have to return the wealth to rightfull owners)time they paid you back NOW

  • @despuis you have to wonder why irish americans have not banded together yet and taken the brit aristocracy before the intl courts,it must be in the billions by now what the landlords stole from their great grandparents

  • fancy a stew?

  • im a 19 year old American. i am a huge fan of Luke Kelly and play a lot of his songs on the banjo and guitar. Every thursday i play in a pub session with a traditional Irish band. I sang this song and everyone in the place went silent and when i was done a loud cheer went up. can't beat this song

  • @PBaker8291 good for you. it's great that this man is remembered in other countries. i lived in usa for couple of years and apart from ireland is the only country i could live in. great people. keep up the banjo

  • @PBaker8291 WAKE UP IRISH AMERICA...to all irish americans, consider this.millions of irish were forced of their lands(1830/90)& their descendants now live all over the world, this was a criminal act orchestrated by britains aristos and enforced through their agents r.i.c/yeos/gombeen men, todays descendants of those who iniated this ethnic cleansing/genocide are now still enjoying the vast wealth created in this way by the murderous criminal acts of their great grandparents.they have thousands of

  • @PBaker8291 billions $ in untold wealth derived from land they stole/illegally claimed from your families whom they criminally dispossed, there was no sale or treaty and they had no legal title. This anomally needs to be through intl courts in the hague and the UNcharter on human rights, millions of irish diaspora(irish americans)have very strong case for financial restitution or reimbursement from todays beneficiaries of this stolen property, this is not fantasy ,precedents already exist

  • God bless Ireland, greetings from Serbia

  • I have been listening to this song for many years and I still like it. Luke, RIP.

  • It is nice to see that one man can represent what is in heart of entire nation. Passion in his voice and life made him immortal. Long live, Luke!!!

  • there isnt words to describe luke wen he preforms

  • what a voice never will we hear another again just got goosebumps fabalous

    thanks luke kelly

  • what an amazing song and singer

  • funny enough

    lightofgoku's thought that meself lol

  • Sunlight, Prayer and the Waiting

  • i am completely convinced that the great hero of the cattle raid` cuchullain looked exactly like luke kelly ;-)

  • Leo John Keegan Casey wrote the words that became this rebel song during his brief but full life,

He was a Patriot, Poet & Novelist and a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood. Born 22 nd Aug 1846 and died on St Patricks Day 1870

Luke Kelly the legend, does in my opinion a great job of keeping those words alive. Song is about the Irish Rebellion of 1798. Long Live Luke, Legend..

  • @KCIARAN Leo was , in fact a pen name used by the writer. Luke's version of the song differs somewhat from the original . There is an extra verse and no chorus.

  • In this picture he is just like a ballad-singer in the plays of the same name.

  • go raibh mile maith agat Luke. another like you we will never have. RIP mo dearthair.

  • There is only one Ireland. There is only one Luke Kelly for ever they will be together.

  • This country needs a character like larkin once again, someone to organise and inspire us and say we're not taking any more from cowen and his cronies we have lost our ability to fight

  • Luke Kelly, the best Irish folk singer, with Christy Moore as a close second.

  • @Untemperedsteel i would undoubtedly agree with you there!!!

  • @Untemperedsteel .....Liam Clancy up there with the best

  • @prankcaller2000 I agree. My dad brought me up listenning to the Clancy Bros and my mom introduced me to the Dubliners. Look up Flogging Molly - What's Left of the Flag, for another good song.

  • Man oh man I wish I could have met this brilliant man. Here in Newfoundland Luke your music marches on strong and undaunted. Can anyone tell me if he was ever over here in Newfoundland and sang.

  • @764Ironworker

Keep the fire of fondness burning on mo chara.

  • Can anybody give me the lirics to this song - please. Anna

  • who ever gave this song a poor rating should be strung up and shot! the best version of the song, luke sings it with such passion. makes the hairs stand up on the back of me neck..."high above their shining weapons flew their own beloved green"! Mighty stuff, i blast it on da cd player before matches ta get me goin!! love it

  • @Morris4beer Crap Troll Alert!!!!!!!1

  • @Morris4beer STFU GERMANIC FOOL

Down where??? Hell... sure come join us, PARTY IN HELL SO!!!

YOU'LL NEVER BEAT THE IRISH NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO, YOU CAN PUT US DOWN BUT WE'LL COME BACK AGAIN BECAUSE WE ARE THE FIGHTING IRISH

  • thank you kelly o neill 4 puttin these great songs up! go raibh maith agat a chairde x

  • This is whats needed, now more than ever before. So poignant when surrounded by my fellow silent defeated Irishmen of today. They couldn't conquer us by blade nor bullet, but the paper note has ensured the enslavement of us and our descendants at last, no county or island spared.

All the patriots must have taken the boat or have died, Jim Larkin inspired a movement yet Joe Higgins can barely catch an ear, let alone arouse the sheep.

    Ná Fianna, no more.

  • the best sing song i was ever invloved in happened outside a bar called pj murphys in cairns australia. out of nowhere lads and girls stood in a circle and started beltin out tunes, and not just the obvious ones, but class Irish ballads and rebel songs. very soon there was a big crowd around clapping and cheering. it turned into a huge cultural exchange! eireann go brath...

  • RIP Lukey

  • What a great song!!

  • the voice of ireland!!!!!! he was a pure communist not particularly ira but his heart was in the right place i think we will never see his like again sadly love and peace kennyboy

  • right... A comrade like him... We haven't seen a lot throughout history!

  • fear gorm, is an old celtic term, defining anyone that is not white like themselves, it comes from there encounters with the picts in scotland, they coloured themselves blue before battle, as in mel gibsons brave heart,

  • @jakethepeg33 correct and right

  • Kellyoneill, I have to agree with you..While there are alot of great rebel songs, this version w/the one and only Luke Kelly like you say is the best..Even my late Irish mother, who really didn't' like drinking or rebel songs, loved this version..

  • na he right in sayin fear gorm it means nigger fear dubh has nothin ta do with it

  • Love this song!! Death to every foe and traitor.

  • Are ye a bit of a rebel there Kelly?

  • 1798 if dat means nuting 2 ye fair enuf, njoy the rare talent of our luke.

  • away 2 the celtic game gits u going

  • excellent picture, portrays dublin!!

  • it portrays old dublin, the modern picture would be a black man or jedward. Ireland is fucked!

  • I saw moe black or brown skined people in Ireland than red-haired ones.

    Just pointing it out.

  • i know, theres way 2 many immigrants ere especially in dublin. by the way, loads of irish people hav dark hair, aspecially in the gaeltacht areas which is where they speak irish all of the time, the red hair is from the celts.

  • Well the Irish are widely regarded as Celts.

By the way, how many of those gaeltacht areas are there?

  • ya i know that. dunno exactly how many but theyre mostly along the west coast of ireland in cork, kerry, galway mayo and donegal and on small islands.

  • Welcome to the 21st century.

  • So what if there are immigrants. Irish people travelled the four corners of the globe and were welcomed. Sure the most Irish Irish man of all was Phillip Lynott RIP, an fear gorm!

  • you mean fear dubh u fukin eejit

  • im sayin theres 2 fukn many and there only here cos of our dole.

  • dunno if it's the best rebel song, kelly the boy from killane, foggy dew, patriot game, boys of wexford, back home in derry, the wests awake. it is up there though. thanks for a great post.

  • he does proper get u inspired to go and fight those fuckin brits and burn that piece of shite union jack

  • @margatelad why are you listening to this song? only to post a bullshit comment, cunt!!!!!!!!!!

  • Some of us fuckin brits as you call us are very sympathetic to the Irish cause and have a great affection for Luke, the Dubliners and all they stood for, so don't tar us all with the same brush!!

  • @jacksnmr Well said - I'm an American who spends a lot of time in Ireland - I've learned the truth of your words from English friends who love Ireland, whose grandchildren are now Irish. Interesting as well - our cottage was once owned by an Englishman who was a rebel during the War of Independence.

  • @EdwardRoche

Exactly right. Many prodestant men fought for on the side of the Irish because they were Irish or sympathised greatly with them because of the way in which the British crown where treating them.

Oliver Cromwell is to Ireland Catholics as Adolf Hitler is to the Jews!

  • it's funny, the loyalists took this tune and put there own lyrics to it and called it something else. Very loyal to their cause alright lol. Great song RIP Luke Kelly

  • who cares! lets not bring that rubbish into this great music and great tradition. im sick of people talking about idiotic shite like that in these mighty videos.

  • Love this music...When I listen to Luke, Ronnie, Barney, Patsy or who else I have to fight against my tears! No nation all over the world has such good musicians, such beloved songs! Who's 50 Cent, woo's britney spears? Shame on you, irish music, THAT's music!

  • double that one !

  • when luke sings this i can almost imagine i`m in that bold band of fighting men, and god i wish i was

  • Great song, strong images in the lyrics, great voice from Luke too RIP

  • Foxyarse2

    YES ! I agree.
