  • Killer! I have an XS400 (1979) but it doesn't look like that... very nice work!

  • @chriselsworthy Thanks for checking her out ... hopefully, our build will inspire you and give you some ideas on your XS400 ... all it takes is a little bit of patience, ingenuity and effort to transform these old school rides in to something quite different from their original state!

  • that is a great sound man!

  • @bigbear6656 Thanks man ... and thank you for checking her out!

  • Yes, she has her stock tank - the tank did not need any modifications to achieve our goal for this ride. Thanks for looking!

  • Is that the stock tank?

  • ✮✮✮✮ video

  • Thank you for the kind words and checking out one of our rides!!!

    Peace & Regards,

  • you're most certainly winning.

    beautiful rig

  • should i buy this bike for 500 euro's?

  • @fsdgadfase

You should if you could but, you can't! The bike is not for sale (yet); however, feel free to share with us what you are likely smoking ;-) !!!

  • @barebonerides that is the problem! i dont have a bike yet, but if you would recommend a low price bike i would appreciate it. i mean by buy the bike an other yamaha xs 400

  • @fsdgadfase ... oh, sorry for the misunderstanding dude! There are some other great platform bikes out there for reasonable prices. The market may be different in Europe; however, in the US it appears that the old school Honda's have become very popular and therefore are bringing a premium. Here are some bikes to consider for solid Cafe Racer platforms: Yamaha: XS650, XS360/400, RD350/400, SR400/500 / Honda: CB750/550/500/400F/360 / Suzuki: GS400/450/550/750, GT380/500/550.

  • @barebonerides thx, but i like your bike but the import will also cost a lot of money. and it is not for sale....

  • Wery clean, ...nice!. Great Job

  • Thanks for the info...I was planning on going up two sizes on the main jets on my CB550 with pod air filters and a Mac exhaust, and it's always good to get some confirmation from someone who has a bike as dialed in as yours obviously is.

Thanks also, for the heads up on 6Sigma. When I went to my local dealer for jets, the guy behind the counter looked at me as if I was asking for sealing wax for an envelope...kids! Never even heard of jets!

  • Clean looking bike, and as always, fork gaiters make any motorcycle look 100% cooler. So you did rejet for the header system, as you mentioned? Do you recall how many sizes up from stock you went on the main jet?

  • Hey @65pont, looking for the paperwork reflecting the sizes of the jest we installed ... no luck though :-( !!! However, I am fairly certain that we only went-up two sizes from stock as the bike still pulls hard without issue when the baffle is in the tail pipe ... we also drilled out the slides for faster throttle response. We recommend that you contact the good folks at 6Sigma (via ebay) - we have had good luck with them - very responsive with an extensive database on carb set-up & jet-kits.

  • Are there any baffles in that exhaust? Or is it just straight pipe into that tip? Cheers!

  • @kc550

Baffle definitely taken out for the video ... she is jetted to run without the baffle; however, she still pulls hard through entire RPM range with the baffle. We are convinced that the header wrap helps t produce the sound as it forces all of the sound (and the heat - more importantly) through the tail pipe!

  • @barebonerides

Awesome info, and cheers for responding. I'm building a cafe racer out of my 82 xs400 right now and I've been trying to figure out the exhaust.

My mufflers, which seem to be aftermarket, had a small bolt near the end of each holding the packing in place. Because I wanted the packing out, I took the bolts out and tried popping the packing out with a broom stick but they didn't budge.

Still debating header wrap as well......I do like the look of blued pipes.

    Thanks again bud!

  • @kc550

The baffles should come-out if they are aftermarket pipes, may take some coaxing, spray perimeter of the baffle with a little (very little) PB Blaster & let sit over-night - then some tapping on the rear of the baffle with a piece of wood flat against the end (covering the exhaust) and a mallet ... little by little, the baffle should come loose. Make sure to not hit it too hard as you can kink the exhaust tip!

  • Very sexy!

  • @vdubwhore

    Thanks dude!

  • Whoa, are you serious with that sound? That is awesome - thank you very much for posting! Cheers!

  • @tejumo7 Thanks man - yeah, we dig her growl for a such little motor!

  • Sounds so good!

  • @ericdebole

Thanks man! I know ... and for a little 400!

  • Thanks for the note dude ... it is tough to put a number on this build ... if we take a fully functional XS400 platform that does not need any mechanical work done to her, we can produce a similar ride for roughly $1500 ... all depends on specific customer needs.

  • @barebonerides Roughly 1500$! You got a possible customer here.

  • @retardedretard97

    Bring it!

  • looks great, how much did the bike cost in total? lookin to do something similar

  • Thanks for checking out our first Build Folks - much appreciated!

Build No. 002 coming up ... you can see some photos of her on our website.
