In this situation, I would walk - in fact, I would not accept payment deferment. I wouldn't even start work without a 50% advance. And I would not accept responsibility to pay the orchestra without a separate contract for orchestra management and a confirmed budget. The executive is screwing this composer blind, but in some ways it's his own fault for not covering his bases.
