i work for usps and i can tell you 98% of the reason why your letter arrives damaged is because it jams in their 20+ year old machines. As for the packages i dont know why it would be damaged, because of throwing them that could be.

There is a difference between the private companies and the account that the post office has, Post office has a non profit account where as the privates companies have a profit account that means you can buy their stock. This is what happens when you subcontract! Tell congress to stop out sourcing the post office.

That's why you are expected to pack your parcels properly and they even sell materials for you to do it. Or you can insure it. Priority isn't sent First class - its the other way around - First class often gets 'upgraded' to Priority handling, because its simple not cost effective to have a separate, slower processing stream for the First class. And if you want to send a heavier item cheaper, and there's no rush, check Parcel Post.
I got a question. I mailed liquids from California to Missouri via Priority Mail Large Flat Rate BOX. It took 14 days to get to the destination. When I called I was told "last update: package in transit." When it did arrive, it WAS NOT in the PMFRB I originally sent it in; it was in a normal brown box. One of the liquid bottles was missing too....what could have happened?

1st class mail has a WEIGHT RESTRICTION. You can't send anything that's 14 ounces or more through 1st class. That means pretty much anything you can buy in a store short of movie/ game discs has to be given a -ahem- "service charge" for the likelihood of item taking up more space and needing human intervention to route the item. USPS is only cheap for light items. Don't bother sending anything heavier than 3-4 pounds via USPS.
They do that to push the Priority rate on the unsespecting customer...
For the people who send things under 14 ounces.....
It goes into the same mailbag...All of these small boxes get sorted on a SPBS Machine..and I worked on one of those..
The first class IS in there with the priority..its such a sham..you might be suprised to find that almost every day I would find EXPRESS mail in with the priority too...
Maybe you should watch films of postal workers from the early 1900's. They are throwing parcels too. The system is setup that way and its been done for over 200 years.
They steal your money by force (taxes) and use it to create a system that "competes" with private companies by taking the money they steal even though they are 2.8 Billion dollars a year in the red to create a system that is slower. And when they screw you over with thieving employees, lousy service and no real recourse (they can't be sued) you get to pay for it again (next years taxes).
Beware of those postal money orders because those employees will steal them and wash them and change your name on them so they can cash your money order.
Send a registered letter from-Europe and your letter could get stuck in a U.S. postal depot so, (hey!).2 weeks later you consult the USPS site to find where it is using the tracking number and (hey!) you discover that it got to the U.S. in 2 days. (European services are efficient.) So you ring up USPS from Europe and,(hey!) they tell you that it's in the USA but don't know where......and (hey!).....ask you to enquire at your local post office in......... Europe!
I am telling this is really frustrating situation. The worst part is talking to those workers on the phone. They say what I already have in my hands 'tracking confirm' other than that "I don't know..." That's the answer.

Frustrating as hell. I'm waiting for a misplaced 15 pound package arriving from Germany. Nobody knows where its at. the US Postal Service should be abolished. Its a federal government thug gang. Return mail delivery to the private sector, maybe allow FedEx or UPS or whatever other business that emerges in the free market to compete for mail delivery - get the government out of it, who knows what they're doing? Uhhh, no they don't. I work for the USPS and I know that it's WAY cheaper to use us. Use flat rate boxes, man. The box costs like 5 dollars (give or take) and you can put whatever in them and the postage doesn't change. I've sorted packages that wiegh 50Ibs but only cost $11 dollars to ship. Go flat rate! Also, UPS and FedEx don't ship on holidays or the weekends. Guess who does. Man, they need to put me in advertising or something.
Flat rate sucks ass. All the boxes are too small to be useful. That 50lb package is not impressive when a lot of the time the heavy packages are also large. Examples:
Desktop system. Wii/PS3/Xbox 360. Computer motherboard. LCD TV. Ironic how a 15 pound PS3 costs more to ship than a 50 pound weight stuck into a flat rate box.
i worked on the machines called MICR reader. the machine works so fast one guy alone cant feed. the guy at the end collecting mail is called A SWEEPER.

Maybe you should watch films of postal workers from the early 1900's. They are throwing parcels too. The system is setup that way and its been done for over 200 years.

They steal your money by force (taxes) and use it to create a system that "competes" with private companies by taking the money they steal even though they are 2.8 Billion dollars a year in the red to create a system that is slower. And when they screw you over with thieving employees, lousy service and no real recourse (they can't be sued) you get to pay for it again (next years taxes).

Send a registered letter from-Europe and your letter could get stuck in a U.S. postal depot so, (hey!).2 weeks later you consult the USPS site to find where it is using the tracking number and (hey!) you discover that it got to the U.S. in 2 days. (European services are efficient.) So you ring up USPS from Europe and,(hey!) they tell you that it's in the USA but don't know where......and (hey!).....ask you to enquire at your local post office in......... Europe!

I am telling this is really frustrating situation. The worst part is talking to those workers on the phone. They say what I already have in my hands 'tracking confirm' other than that "I don't know..." That's the answer.

Frustrating as hell. I'm waiting for a misplaced 15 pound package arriving from Germany. Nobody knows where its at. My guess is it's sitting against some post office door propping the door open so those lazy assholes don't have to exert themselves to open a door. Degovernmentalize the postal system and all those scumbags that hang on to those jobs will be no more and the system will self improve over a short time.

yes, I had such wasting time for days...when I gave up it was found at the local po. I hope you get your mail soon. It is a hassle. It terrified me to see others mail was all crooked and messed up. I was so lucky to have the mail in 20days.

get this i was tracking my order the package went 100 miles from my destination than shipped to my city. They wasted time buy not going to the city on there route. the completely skipped me and done a complete circle. I'm in Illinois the package went from Chicago to st. Louis Missouri than to me in central Illinois .

Yeah I love how you can track it from the country of origin. Then if you are lucky you'll see what city in the USA it arrived at. After that, the postal workers are too lazy to scan the item each time it changes hands. So why do we pay for an obviously broken service? I smell class action litigation to make the USPS make some changes.

how the USPS works? They don't. They are lazy overpaid pieces of shit and there are many thieves among them. If you don't insure your items you may just lose your ass because they take care of their own and even though you know the USPS stole your package, they won't do anything about it.

i used to get lots of pkgs in the mail some came crushed..why? u think it was the postal peoples fault..nope! its the people that pkg them. i also work at the post office now..i can tell which ones arent pkg so well and those are handled easier..but if i did that to all of them..mail would be delayed..so use peanuts and bubblewrap it will save your valuables..

the US Postal Service should be abolished. Its a federal government thug gang. Return mail delivery to the private sector, maybe allow FedEx or UPS or whatever other business that emerges in the free market to compete for mail delivery - get the government out of it, who knows what they're doing? Maybe tracking every letter you send, etc. Abolish it. Also abolish the Federal Reserve. And vote Ron Paul 2012.

No one is cheaper than the USPs and your Fed Ex can not deliver a letter 3000 miles to your door for 42 cents!! Best bargain in the country.

actually FedEx and UPS are both cheaper than USPS when shipping a packag 10lb and above. I ship a lot electronics. i would know.

Uhhh, no they don't. I work for the USPS and I know that it's WAY cheaper to use us. Use flat rate boxes, man. The box costs like 5 dollars (give or take) and you can put whatever in them and the postage doesn't change. I've sorted packages that wiegh 50Ibs but only cost $11 dollars to ship. Go flat rate! Also, UPS and FedEx don't ship on holidays or the weekends. Guess who does. Man, they need to put me in advertising or something.

Flat rate sucks ass. All the boxes are too small to be useful. That 50lb package is not impressive when a lot of the time the heavy packages are also large. Examples:
Desktop system. Wii/PS3/Xbox 360. Computer motherboard. LCD TV. Ironic how a 15 pound PS3 costs more to ship than a 50 pound weight stuck into a flat rate box.

i worked on the machines called MICR reader. the machine works so fast one guy alone cant feed. the guy at the end collecting mail is called A SWEEPER.
