bowhunting results in a lot of deer suffering from bad shots. It is what it is. Not all shots are going to be perfect. Most important thing is that you recover the animal. Squirrels are tough critters to begin with, but this was a pretty damn good shot for the distance. Congrats on the kill.
You shoot a squirrel with a .22, people say they don't have a chance. You shoot them with one of the most primitive weapons legal and people complain about suffering. I guarantee he didn't suffer much at all. The length and penetration of the darts is more than most people think. The dart was probably poking out the other side of the animal.
Usually when I shoot them they drop. I run as fast as I can and decapitate them with a swift motion of a hatchet to end their suffering. I don't like hurting them. But squirrels are so damn good. Especially grilled.
this looks a little inhumane. an airgun would be much quicker, a shot through the head would kill it instantly. the squirrel was alive for quite some time after being shot.
@aaronrushton1 Almost 90% of hunters bow hunt deer. With squirells they have very small hearts. They will bleed out of a good shot in about 3 min.and die of shock in about 8min in a bad shot.deer usualy lay down after about 7 min after a bow hunt, and die after about 15min.and thats a good heart shot. Its all about the skill of the shot and tracking, and with archery hunts this is one of the most humane.
@mortalcare with an airgun a shot through a squirrels head kills it instantly before it hits he floor. this is unecassary suffering in my opinion and your putting the animal through 3 minutesof extreme pain before it dies. a deer will run about 30 yards after a good shot in the engine room. i believe in minimal pain for the animal in my hunting, and will go to all costs to get the cleanest possible kill.
@aaronrushton1 the fact of the matter is squirells shot with a blowgun die quicker than a deer with a bow which is the no.1 hunting in america.and the pain is just as bad for deer as for the squirell. there really isint much diference between the two sports[thats why i do it]but its perfectly humane.with the adrenaline running through the critter along with the shock, only about three minutes of minimal pain, with the squirell not even sure whats going on.
