  • I play this over and over, thank you so much for it...

  • Bruce this is your greatest song from your best album.

  • I had done the same things as Springsteen.. I kept going back in my mind over and over trying to "fix" things with both my late wife and a sociopathic woman I was involved with after my wife's death ...for years.... and I couldn't understand why I kept doing that... Satan was using both to keep me immobilized... keeping me from moving on.. a very beautiful song about breaking free of the bondages of our past...

  • how the fuck can people dislike this?

  • Incredible how this man can chirp up the crowd, get em laughing, and then deliver a performance wrought with so much agony and pain. On stage, there are very few that can stand with this guy. Thanks for posting.

  • Very powerful song. A very beautiful reminder to go to my father's house and ask for atonement for my sins. Forgiveness would be at the top of my list.

  • beautiful lyrics

  • Where our sins lie unatoned......

  • what bad thing happend at Bruces' house, does anyone kn0w ?

  • Man, what a voice

  • one of Bruce's best songs, and there are a lot to choose from

  • Yes. Thanks for adding this. Very powerful.

  • DO U RELISE STEVE VAN DANT IS FROM BRUCE SPRINGSTEENS E STREET BAND HE PLAYS IN SOPRANO'S

  • Chills at 4:12

  • 3 dislikes

    3 dislikes?

    3 DISLIKES

    fuck humanity.

  • I ALSO WANTED TO ADD....THANKS FOR PUTTING THIS UP!!!!! Great version of the song!

  • ShabbyDog, thanks so much for putting this up! The best version of this song, hands down. Any chance you have video of Darkness from the same show? That is my absolute favorite.

  • @sasoler1 I just added Darkness from the same show. Enjoy.

  • Oh, I so love the Nebraska album. I used to listen to it and just indulge in some great crying. So soulful, and so full of truth. ty for posting

  • I've been listening to Darkness and Nebraska alot recentily. This track is the kind of writing that sets Bruce apart.

  • chills

  • ist the camera man drunk?

  • @eldoradomns

Drunk? Hardly. He is however trying to record a concert without being noticed about 20 years ago in the age of no image stabilizers.. :P

  • Bruce Springsteen is God.

  • So moving. Hands down the best version of this I've heard him do.

I'm a songwriter myself and sometimes I think I've got it down, then I hear something like this and realize how much more I've got left to learn.

    Thanks for posting.

  • made me cry

  • THE REST ARE ALL PRETENDERS....HE SHOULD FOLLOW TAYLOR FRIGGIN SWIFT ON THE CMAS AND EXPOSE THAT NO TALENT JUVENIVLE MEDIA CREATION

  • W.O.W. Just....Wow. Bruce Springsteen is without a doubt one of the most amazing artists to ever have walked (and still walks) this earth. I would give all the money I have to hear him perform like this. Stunning.

  • This is the most personal and beautiful song off the great album nebraska....Too bad Bruce never plays (well ALMOST never plays) this song live.

  • One of my favourite songs in the whole world. Also, this show's got something special in the atmosphere. Bruce's voice, the 12-string beauty and the harmonica that we all love... everything's perfect.

  • Brilliant, Bravo!!! Encore, encore, encore!!!!!!

  • I absolutely LOVE this version.........

  • The harmonica is something else. Fucking brilliant.

  • i first listened to this acoustic version on here and I teared up listening to it because it reminded me of my old home where my father and my family lived. such a beautiful song :)

  • Blown away... I found good quality bootlegs tapes from this show. Downloading and can't wait to listen

  • Una de las joyas de Bruce, no valorada como merece.

Para mí una de las mejores canciones de todos los tiempos.

  • Oh my god. That's all I can say.

  • @sexygeek101 Wow, amazing voice he had.

  • @XxoFrozenxX

What do you mean had I saw him last summer and he still has an amazing voice

    :-)

  • if you love bruce , you love obama ! 2 great man !! go on !!!

  • @flevobirdy what in the...? why would you love the establishment that ruins millions of families?

  • @flevobirdy love Bruce's music...DO NOT LOVE OBAMA...

  • @i842much It's a package so grow up.

  • @Chris51jon it wasnt before bruce made it big, if you listen to those songs he is singing about the uinemployment caused by the Unions that funded Obama, there is your package.

  • @i842much Yeah, at least Bush kept people employed - attacking other countries and killing their citizens.

The factories are empty, but the army is full. The middle class is disappearing, but Wall Street is doing great. Thanks Dubya!

  • Are you kidding me? Even a "minor" Springsteen song like this is so damn evocative and poetic that it almost makes me want to cry, and certainly makes me want to wake up in the morning.

    You?

  • I cried when I heard this song. I miss my father so much.

  • I cannot get enough of this song, his voice is just so beautiful here.

  • such a sad song, but yet wonderfull, like Springsteen.I think that he might was depressed when he wrote the songs from the Nebraska Album.

  • One of the most underestimated songs by Bruce. Thats a good thing! I love this stuff and what his stands for.

  • So I can go back and fix everything that wasn't. However, my family had a bad reputation and I was a kid who just wanted to play sports and change my family. If I could go back, I wouldn't waste most of my life try to change them. However, GOD gave me the next best thing marring into a loving, caring, old fashion family. However, I have to work hard to provide for my family because I couldn't stay focas on school and I had to start providing for myself at 4TH grade.

  • Thank Bruce for saving me cash and time trying to figure out why I use to drive through the two old nieghborhoods I grewup and look at all my friends' houses and the playgrounds I hungout. Furthermore, I'm a very deep person searching always for answers. Sometimes I want my life to be a Twilight Zone episode.

  • The description is soo off this is one of the best videos I've ever seen. Maybe not so much visual but the sound and the timing and the way you can see his hair is amazing

  • breaks my heart- I know the return of the prodigal son all to well

  • I just discover this song from Ben Harper version... Absolutely beautiful...

  • Just got the album from my friend who is a Bruce fanatic, really emotional and stripped. Nothing like it, this is my favorite song off it. Reminds me of the Sopranos when Tony dreams. Love it regardless

  • @BrendanOC

The first season of The Sopranos featured at least one song from the Nebraska album, can't remember quite what it was, possibly State Trooper, so the link really isn't too far fetched.

  • @ShabbyDogRCR

Hey, it is State Trooper, I have the Sopranos soundtrack and the Bruce song was on it. Thats how I heard about the Nebraska at first and was taken back by its calm nature. One of the best musicians for the best show and R.L. Burnside was another amazing artist on the Sopranos.

  • @BrendanOC Hi! Is there any web store where I could buy this album and have it shipped to Finland? I'm a big Bruce fan and I especially love his acoustic and simple material.

  • Eventually in life we all hear those words...we think they're still alive...we think there is still hope to go back and fix it...

  • That is great! What is the date of that performance???

  • "I'm sorry, son, but no one by that name lives here anymore" GOD DAMN! that gets me every time!

  • superb this is why he's called the boss i love this tune

  • I can't write one good original song and he's written probably 2,000. No one said life is fair

  • Out of all the heart wrenching songs on "Nebraska," this is the only one that gets me every time.

  • Is this off Nebraska?

  • Comment removed

  • Sounds from his soul made this !

  • I would love to get a mp3 of this performance... any help ShabbyDogRCR?

  • Literally the greatest live performance I have ever seen.

  • gives me chills

  • as good as music gets

  • anyone who thinks bruce didn't write this is completely uninformed. it is an original song released on the album "nebraska" in 1982. no reason for anyone to try to "substantiate" anything. any suggestion to the contrary is patently absurd.....

  • Comment removed

  • From Gods Word the Bible: John 3:16

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

  • Amen God bless you is my fav. part on the bible with also psalm 121 read it too

  • I wrote it

  • Good Job

  • unfortunately there is virtually no hard evidence, working on locating the contract which il have rather soon. emmylou harris's release of this song greatly predate bruce's. thats appearent for her having rights previously, as for debby johnson, she got the contract somewhere she merely needs to find it lol

  • Emmylou Harris recorded this song yes back in 1986, so about four years after Bruce released the original version.

  • I really understand this song, what a heavy one it is. Some memories are hard to let go, weather they be good or bad ones. To me for to keep visiting those certain places is a way of hanging on to them..but unfortunately it's not very health mentally or spiritually.

  • Lol can't hear a thing... turned up vomlume all the way to

  • Whenever I am in my Home Town I visit my childhood house. I guess I need help! It is registered as an Historic Site. Hmmmm, I can't tell you why but I am suspect. :-)

  • starts at 2:10

  • so, is this show available to buy?

  • BRUUUUCE

  • My daughter ran away last week and won't come home. I have been listening to this song all morning hoping to god our sins won't lie unattoned. Oh jesus i am hurt.

  • sorry to read this and hope that things are working out for you all.

  • she'lll be back-

  • My favorite song off Nebraska. Tremendous version by Bruce here. Just heartbreaking.

  • Vad ska man säga !! Kallas inte för " Bossen" för inte !!! Kanon!!

  • Bruce did write this song. Read the credits to his "Nebraska" album...

  • Yes it was written by Springsteen but I think the guy might be confused as the song sometimes resonates to the song that goes "Here the wind blow dear, hear the wind blow, lean your head over, hear the wind blow."

  • huh?

  • bruce without a doubt wrote this song!

please keep your ignorance off youtube, god knows theres plenty of it already... or show a site that proves otherwise, or else just shut up.. your making everyone else dumber for having read what you write

  • absolutely wonderful song even tho he didnt write it, nor did emmy lou harris lol

  • What? I'm almost certain that Bruce did write this. He's written several songs about his poor relationship with his father growing up.

  • he definately does an amazing job and i love it but im serious that he didnt write it. im not even sure he was the first artist to do this song, i know emmylou harris did this song to and i know she didnt write it either. dont get me wrong, im not trying to dis him!

  • this song is from the album Nebraska, which HE wrote in 1981. No question there :)

  • Have been searching to substantiate this, heldore, but I haven't been able to confirm or disprove your claim. Could you provide your sources, please?

  • Is it any wonder that Bruce's songs resonate with us? Digging deeply into the experiences and pain of his past he shares his heart without holding back. He opens himself up to possible ridicule and misunderstanding, but it's a ringing challenge to us to deal honestly with our own buried hurts.

Even when we convince ourselves that we've been hurt too much and no longer care, even when we're sure that it is too late, our hearts long for healing and reconciliation. An achingly beautiful song.

  • great audio on this post. Great Song

    Thanks for the post

  • Heart wrenching, devastating, and utterly beautiful.

  • I keep driving by that cold and lonely place where my son was killed there in the night , and I look out and I play music, and i know he's not coming this time but next time he just might

  • My Pappy's a Miser and a selfish Prick who is married to a blue haired freak. Why can't I have a good Pappy. I was robbed with this miserable Pappy.

  • yeah man, you should feel terrible. like, real bad. :D

  • I cry everytime I hear this song, I miss my dad so fucking much He died alone and I was there so I failed my father

  • The fact that it troubles you is a testament to your love for your dad. I don't know how or why, but sorrow can heal.Peace my brother...

  • meant that I wasnt there for him

  • bruce....thank God for you.

  • Powerful!

  • Another gem. A real haunting song. Powerful. Beautifully sung.

  • His voice is just.... mind-blowing here.

  • Shivers...

  • Why does anybody see any deeper christian backround in this song?

  • It's a stretch at best, but anyway...

Search youtube for "In My Father's House" by Audio Adrenaline and also by Elvis. They are references to John 14:2...

"There are many rooms in my Father's house. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going away to prepare a place for you?"

  • Very well said, brother....

  • this is awsome, the boss is a pure legend

  • The best thing I've seen in a long long time

  • My stars. What a mindblowing rendition of this song. This is the Boss at his best.

  • A beautiful song; and yes, it is a bit haunting!! But that just makes it so perfect!!!

  • Beautiful song!!!!

  • the funny thing is i totally understand when he talks about going back to places he grew up and couldn't understand why he kept going back, I've found myself on more then one occassion walking by places i spent my time as a kid, sometimes just thinking about how time has gone by and mistakes i've made with friends or family, but like the song ends with the "sins lie unatoned" and in the words Bruce used before the song, you can't fix it

very powerful song and one i would love to see him play

  • stunning

  • The Boss never cease to surprise me. I always knew he was great but this lifts him to another level!! Haunting and emotional. There is no one better!!

  • stunning...painful...beautiful...

  • any1 know the chords?

  • This is epic

  • Wow that was brilliant!!!

  • What a thrilling vocal performance. Bruce at his best level!

  • I wasn't sure if he meant father as in God, or literally, father. But I listen to this and think about my father.

  • Made a very good sermon inspired by this song.

No matter what our sins are, we can always return to our Fathers house and run till we fall;shaking in His arms, with torn clothes and wounded bodies and hearts.

At the end of every hard-earned day we can still find some reason to believe. Thank you.

  • a true song with true lyrics sung by a true legend !!! long may he continue )'

  • powerful lyrics and melody, makes me think of my now departed Dad each time I hear it and miss his company and love

  • My absolute favorite Springsteen song. It resonates so much to my own experience with my own father, who's 16 years dead but still looms very large in my life, not in a great way. This is a perfectly written song and this performance was a powerful one. Many, many thanks for posting it. I'm going to see Bruce tomorrow night, maybe I'll get lucky and hear this one.

  • One day he'll play that song for us up in the fucking north... before the daaaaaaaaaaarkness falls

  • This gives me goosebumps!!!

Excellent, thanks a lot for posting!
