  • where is Beekersville?

  • Great story about the tune and the grandpaw. Great tune

  • Thanks Glad you liked it!

  • I have listened to your tunes for a while here tonight on youtube and I am wondering if you play with a dance band of some kind and if so whereabouts. So if we want to drop in for a dance we know where!

  • It reminds me of Clementine...haha. I really love to listen to waltzes with fiddles. :)

  • Thanks! glad you liked it and thanks for reposting it to your channel...awesome :)

  • very good.

  • I love the story of the fiddle you are telling! My Irish friend ( busker and playing 5 instruments!) just said what I thought, reading the story. He said that it had lost its soul, being locked away in a case.

Great rendition of this tune by the way!! will see what else you posted!!

  • Thanks Owlet, I'm glad you liked the story. Actually I had forgotten that I had written that story here on this video, so thanks for bringing my attention to it. It is always refreshing reading one's own writing many years later. Hope you enjoy your visit.

  • @Burfordfiddler1962 MANY years later? It was posted last year, lol. what was the REAL name of the " bologna" fiddle? By the way, one of the guitars I had, a Fender Geminy II, was given to me by a man who had it on his attic, among all kind of junk. It sounded awful when I tried it! But I asked for it anyway. It was one of the best I ever had I believe guitars choose their " masters", I can play 2 guitars of the same brand, one will let me, the other one will not. :)

  • I have lots of other fiddles but they will cost a fortune to fix, so I always play the one. I think I looked the one up on the internet (the one in the story) and that is the right name...same as the slice of processed meat lol.

  • Top shelf !

  • This man just made me want to learn how to play the fiddle....

  • Glad to be of some inspiration to someone.

  • @Burfordfiddler1962 Yes, thank you so much dear Burfordfiddler1962 for your very beautiful fiddling.... You have made me conviced that fiddling is my next stop in music expansion...

  • I love how you play this. I love playing the fiddle just wish i wasn't such a hack at it. but i love playing just the same.

  • Very cool ...loved the Waltz ...!!!

  • I love the way you play this waltz!!!!!!!!!I'm going to work on it. Thanks for the positive comments and friend invite too!!

  • Thanks so Much me and my granddaughter are Waltzing all over the House!

  • You're very welcome! Drop in for a dance any time! :)

  • I only play occasionally in a small group I call the Corn Shuckers Olde Tyme Orchestra and the next time we play will be for St. Pattys at the Parish hall here in the big metropolis of Beekersville.

  • @Burfordfiddler1962

hello again -- where is Beekersville?

  • Hi Hi, Beekersville is actually only a figment of the imagination and found only in the corner of my mind, however when I convey these videos hosted by such rustic characters as Rufus H. Beeker the community of Beekersville comes alive. (Note if you look at the location map found in the video stats page you will see that I physically located beekersville at the top of the world lol).

  • Love the waltzes and your playing - Enjoyed. Gwen

  • So lovely! Thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks for stopping in

  • Super, love it, simply beautiful !

  • Thanks, glad you liked it!

  • This is absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! You are a wonderful musician!

  • Thanks very much, :)

  • I love how your manipulate the melody to add your very own touch. It is almost as if you cradle your instrument and the audience. Thanks for sharing this Beautiful waltz. Ron in Canada! 5*****

Don Messers Jubilee any one. How I loved his music and how similar is this tune to his music.

  • Nice, the extra touches you made to improve the sound quality made this all the more enjoyable.

I stumbled upon the name of this song again while reading a short story by NINA KIRIKI HOFFMAN called GONE TO HEAVEN SHOUTING and it helped to bring the story more alive. Thanks.

  • I tried to find the story by nina, do you have a hotlink I could use? sounds interesting. Thanks for stopping in to my channel.

  • Superb job on both tunes. Andy would certainly be very proud of your rendition of Poor Girl. What a wealth of musical memories in your site.

  • Thanks, glad you like it too.

  • Very nicely done. The accompaniment adds something too - even if it is painful to put together.

You've met up with Graham Townsend at some point ? Wow - he was a tremendous talent.

Do you mind me asking - what strings are you using ?

  • Not sure what you mean by "what strings" but the best answer I can think of is "all of them" lol: A, E, D, and Z

  • What brand of strings ? I'm a beginning fiddler (been-so for 10 years). I've used Dominants, but I'm thinking of switching - they seem alittle sloppy now. I guess I should tighten those key-things, right ?

  • Dr Thomastiks, but I need new ones and there's holes in the box lettin too much wind out...

  • I've heard that the wind stays in better if you play the thing outside in the cold. Its just that more wind then escapes from the player..

Thomastiks: did you try the Red & Blue types, to try to match the strings to your instrument ? Some people do this. Not sure if it makes alot of difference.

  • The red type I believe were the last type, but I will need to get the fiddle specialist re-builders to do the work and plug the holes and fit it with anything it needs..It was apprased in Toronto Heinel's. It was estimated that it is a hand-made violin of perhaps German construction but with a Stratavarious label 1723 or something like that in it.

  • Hey Rufus, That is worth lots more than 5 stars but that the best I can do..fantastic job. Maybe I can get ol' Jim to learn this one. I also enjoyed your accompaning story...

  • Thanks Ron, glad you liked it, you guys could do a vid response and that would be cool! Say hi to Jim, he's an awesome fiddler by the way!

  • Very nice sweet music there! I remember being down in your grandpa's rec room a couple of different times and him showing me all the fiddles he had the radio on beside them. All the instruments were laid out on the piano just like you say! What your grandpa believed is very true also of accordions...The more they are played the better they get!..>ERIK

  • Thanks Erik! Grandpa was one of the greatest tinkerers there was and especially loved fixing up musical instruments and collecting fiddles. He was a great influence to many, and will always be remembered...

  • i love listening to your fiddle! Dancing right across the room!

  • Glad you had a good dance, I've been wonder'n where you'd gone to lol

  • That is just really sweet and beautiful. .... and what a wonderful story about you, your grandpa and the music store. Almost makes me misty eyed. This one deserves more than 5 stars, for sure.

Beautiful playing, beautiful tune. This is the last tune for my night before the old man and I shut our eyes for the night.

    Bless you...

  • Thank you very much for stopping in here. I am trying to add my own background tracks so that my songs don't all sound so bland. Problem is, I wear my fingers out first trying to pry the guitar, then when I play my fiddle, all my fingers are numb and the grooves are too wide...lol, glad you enjoyed it tho.
