He would have easily made it with some lockers then he wouldn't be spinning one front tire and one back tire. My Disco II would make it with my 32" tires, but only because of the traction control system which is the next best thing to lockers. It works great and keeps all 4 tires pulling in mud and I can rock crawl it with no problems. I love jeeps to, but the Rover really impressed me with what it can do stock. All I did was put 265/75/16 tires on it and it is amazing off road.
Its easy to "improve" something when you don't have military design and weight restrictions to follow. I'm an old FWD fan if you want to talk historical development, but motor vehicles were in their infancy when they started. You do know much more that most Land Rover aficionados, tho, I'm impressed. :) Every vehicle has its strengths and weaknesses, I was only being facetious with my comment. I have nothing against Land Rover, its just fun to mess with people's brand loyalty
What does this prove? The Land Rover didn't go through the mud; it just stayed on the dry land and pulled the Jeep out -- something that my 2wd Dodge Ram D150 could probably do. But don't get me wrong -- I'm not saying that the Land Rover couldn't make it through the mud.
If read the comments I made you'd see I was out to "prove" anything. Just a video of a fun day. He was the only one who tried the spot - twice! We had a Dodge Ram with us that day, helped pull out a stuck Defender 110. He sold the Ram a year later and bought a 95 Range Rover Classic.
He bought and built the truck the day before the trip - tires, bumpers, etc. Didn't have time to fit the lockers - you are right, would have been helpful!
As off roaders we need to stick together and just have fun. Clearly Jeep and Land Rover are two of the best 4X4s in the world. There is nothing else to prove, they are both amazing. As this video proves, a LR will help a Jeep, just as a Jeep will help an LR in need. It doesn't make one better than the other. Now get out there and wheel!
It's cool - I know it's pretty common for people to get all entrenched in one particular brand and trash-talk everybody else. Check my videos and you'll see the same Jeep pulling out 3 Rovers on a later trip!
10/10 for trying although once you've lost forward and backward motion it's best to admit defeat and swallow your pride love the john lennon song ...nedster...disco driver (proper 4x4)
...I was going to say, not much to gloat about if you can't successfully do the same obstacle after pulling out a _insert brand here_. :) "Have fun out there!"
I love the spiked up classy jazz music as the Land Rover comes to the rescue! haha makes me want to play my yazzz flute!!
