This song is a reference to both Win and Regine of Arcade Fire, and to another song called "(This is) the Dream of Evan and Chan" by Dntel (Jimmy Tamborello of the Postal Service fame).
This song is soo beautiful- the begining! And it just conjures up images of Win and Regine in a magical field of flowers or some other awesome cute shit they may be doing
It's a tongue in cheek song about the growing popularity of the band The Arcade Fire, who come from Montreal. Win and Regine are the married couple who canned their love for us (the fans) and put their hearts in jars ready to offer it to those who stay at home to watch their music videos! Owen did his best to prevent them from being famous!
@prinzenrolle112 Regine is the German form of Regina. "Late Latin name meaning "queen". It was in use as a Christian name from early times, and was borne by a 2nd-century saint. In England it was used during the Middle Ages in honour of the Virgin Mary, and it was later revived in the 19th century. A city in Canada bears this name, in honour of Queen Victoria." - Behind the Name.
@rokuzombie well since i am austrian i knew that but anyway i found out that "Win" and "Regine" refer to Win Butler und Régine Chassagne, the guys from Arcade Fire xD
@DrTheKay You're a tard, and I can name a load of great American groups, and a lot of good Canadian singers too. I work in retail... Canadians arn't all they are cracked up too be cause 90% of my customers are Canadian cause I live right on the border. They are JUST as dumb as Americans haha
Win and Regine are two main members in the Arcade Fire, a band that Owen Pallett sometimes tours with. If you know the arcade fire this song might make more sense. As they used to like to play in small churches, now they play in sold-out stadiums....
I feel like this song is supposed to be played backwards. Cuz the music kinda sounds like that and the lyrics don't make much sense. Can anyone please make a vid of it playing backwards?
Do you mean the background thingummy? That's made with a syntheziser, I think. When he's live, he does it on his violin... but yeah, it would be cool to hear it backwards ^^
@missvicky123 There's a band called Arcade Fire. The two main people of it are named Win and Régine, and since Owen Pallett sometimes plays with them on tour, I always thought it was about them. Plus, they live in Montreal and she plays the accordion. So it always just made sense to me.
@missvicky123 you're right that the plucked lines that play alone at the beginning and continue through the song are reversed; the rest of the tracks are not and the song doesn't really work better reversed. BUT it does still sound pretty awesome and whole different parts of the song are highlighted listening backwards.

He always messes with music. This time he plays 8 measures, and then 2 more that stand alone before it starts over again.

@saeka88 Sorry, couldn't think of another word for it at the time. :/

@saeka88 i was thinking the same thing. A better way of phrasing that comment could have been " are they from Canada or the states"?
but oh well, can not correct what has been done... nice song.
