this doesnt really show the fighting style. the retiarius was generally doomed if he lost his net, and most men portraying this gladiator style throw their nets and forget about them.
plus if their not is on the ground, the opposing gldiator would have gaurded it as to prevent them from acquiring it again
@weebleman6 I'm sorry but you're not well informed. The retiarius could pick up the net on the ground, because it was not just to grab and nothing more, but since launch. Then after it launched could be recovered. The secutor (opponent of retiarius) had better things to do than worry about the net! The trident of retiarius was very much more dangerous than net, and that was the weapon to neutralize! Fighting shown here is realistic and based on careful studies as well as results from testing.
@Tvllias good to know. for all i know i could be wrong, but from some info i have read the net was a very important part of his equipment, hence usually being attached to him with some sort of rope to where to could retrieve it quickly and easily.
im just using basic logic that if it was so important that it was attached to him so that he could retrieve it, then i personally would assume that if he lost it, he would be at much of a disdvantge seeing as he lost his only [somewha] defensive wepon
@weebleman6 You're right, in some mosaics you see a rope tied to the net and hand retiarius, to facilitate retrieve. But this net was not always present. Ars Dimicandi athletes do not use it. then the net can be thrown, lost and later recovered.
