Indeed the Orchestra tone lacks brillance and at the same time goes at too fast a tempo and plays less legato. If you want to be impressed check Friedrich Gulda or Andre Previn versions.

Excellent pianist, the orchestra could be in better tune, slower and more in the mood of this shadowy, tragic and hopeful concerto.

This is a beautiful peice, but the conductor has set the tempo to high and the pianist is a little disappointing

I have more than one performance of this on CD and video. I prefer the conductor and pianist efforts on these recordings.
