To those who are saying they are stored just in case... they aren't they are antiquated and outclassed by modern aircraft. The B2 is MORE stealthy and caries more bombs and the F22 is stealth, has an equal payload, is supersonic and maneuverable. So there really as no point in keeping these, we got rid of them to save money.

To those who comment on the waste of money for a flyover, remember that pilots flight hours every month to stay current anyway, why not use some of those for a flyover?

The weapon that brought the plane down fired blindly first of all and then it just became mere luck. An unguided missle fired in the general direction of the aircraft actually hit it. To break it down it would be like you standing on a bridge tossing rocks at cars, your going to hit one stealth or not. It was just wrong place wrong time that day

@Va1entino7 Well most will be put in mothballs and the rest will be used for spare parts for the ones being mothballed. They will be kept serviceable in case they are needed like say the US goes to war and looses a bunch of its strategic bombers (doubtfull) they can easily get the F-117's airworthy again and use them. The same thing happens to just about every US aircraft. Most regular aircraft are sent to Davis-Monthan AFB in Tuscon,AZ to the bone yard. Idk where they will send the 117 though

F-22 production has been halted at the initial delivery, 187 planes. Some of the money saved from the F-22 program will be put into the F-35 program to speed up it's development. The F-22 has not flown a single sortie in the Iraq or Afghanistan theaters. I suppose using a $140 million dollar air dominance fighter to do CAS missions isn't as cost effective as using, say, an $18 million dollar F-16.
