@hamrto i purchased 4 copies of HUMAN. i gave my sister one, i gave 2 friends one, and i kept a copy. i love that album. i love all of Brandy's albums. i didn't know about Afrodisiac until the time RHD was released. I listened to all the songs, and i freakin' loved it. i purchased that album with the quickness. Brandy is a beast and i will always support her because she does great music.

I am 26 years old male and I remember buying both of there first albums. I liked Brandy because she is a beautiful bronze colored Nubian looking woman who is really talented and humble "A good girl". I think Monica she is really pretty too but what I like about her the most is her swagger she is a "down chick". To me she truly reflects the culture of the African American woman.

With regards to image Brandy is more popular because of her labels drive the vehicle of media expsoure for her unlike Monica's label there is not a lot of exposure. You can have a fabulous album but without the right press it will not sale which iswhathappened with Monica's after the storm album. a briliant album but had no backing from the people that matter the label.
i think the problem was wrong singels off After the Storm, and I have her All Eyes on Me Album that only came out it Japan but ordered it online. Trust me All Eyes on Me is Wayyyy Better then After The Storm. But After The Storm is still a good album.
I love After The Storm and All Eyez On Me, it's hard for me to say which one I like better, but I think I lean a little more towards After The Storm because of songs like "Don't Gotta Go Home" and "Go To Be Mad." All Eyez On Me was a great album too though. But I think the reason things didn't go well with it may have been the heavy Hip-Hop influence and all the sampling on All Eyez On Me, it was a drastic change from The Boy Is Mine.
But I agree that if they would have promoted All Eyez On Me and released better singles (like "U Should've Known" and maybe "What Hurts The Most" or "Ain't Gonna Cry No More") it would have at least gotten to see the light of day in the U.S. I don't think the critical response to it would have changed though. But all it takes is one hit song for an album to sell, it doesn't even matter what the rest of the album is like when it comes to sales.

yeah.. Monica's got the voice, and Aaliyah had the style. Her sound was always non-traditional. She had like a different sound on each album but each of them were great. She went from Hip-Hop Soul on the first two albums, to a fusion of R&B and Rock on the third. Brandy & Monica are more traditional R&B but Monica has an amazing voice, and the thing I like about her and Brandy both is you really feel them in there music. You feel the emotion and the pain.
I prefer Bran over Mo mainly bcause Brandy's songs are better. The first album was the best. I loved every song on it, except 1. where as with Mo, I only loved a few songs from her album. The way I differentiate the two is that Monica has the power and a tad-bit more soul but is ghetto, while Brandy has vocal technique and her voice is unique her good-girl quality is what pushed her further.
thats interesting... I actually like Brandy's later stuff more than her first album. I thought Afrodisiac was her best album. There were a couple songs on her first CD I didn't really care for. It was still good though, but i think that would have to be my least favorite of her albums. I don't really know who I like better between Mo and Brandy, I like them both.
I don't really comparing people that I like though, because I feel like when it comes to R&B music, everyone that I like has their own place in the genre and there own specific purpose in the genre. LOL i never had a monica album, but i love every single to put out. i just got her The Boy Is Mines album. I didn't get her last one, although I like about 3 songs on it.

@hamrto i purchased 4 copies of HUMAN. i gave my sister one, i gave 2 friends one, and i kept a copy. i love that album. i love all of Brandy's albums. i didn't know about Afrodisiac until the time RHD was released. I listened to all the songs, and i freakin' loved it. i purchased that album with the quickness. Brandy is a beast and i will always support her because she does great music.

I am 26 years old male and I remember buying both of there first albums. I liked Brandy because she is a beautiful bronze colored Nubian looking woman who is really talented and humble "A good girl". I think Monica she is really pretty too but what I like about her the most is her swagger she is a "down chick". To me she truly reflects the culture of the African American woman.

Like them both for individual talents. My mom , dad, husband's mom died this years 2009/2010 his father dying as we speak. 2 brothers, prison this year, I could have been-- we grew up in the same f/ upped home. my 6 yr old saved my own life after being diagnosed with an illness that I thought would kill me. STILL STANDING. No traces the illness ever even existed in my body. strange how same illness took mom out. strange how s/o picked these 2 songs... Both mean alot to me for many reasons.

Now what I will not do is compare these two ladies stats. Because unfortunately the playing field is not levelled here. With regards to image Brandy is more popular because of her labels drive the vehicle of media expsoure for her unlike Monica's label there is not a lot of exposure. You can have a fabulous album but without the right press it will not sale which iswhathappened with Monica's after the storm album. a briliant album but had no backing from the people that matter the label.

I love After The Storm and All Eyez On Me, it's hard for me to say which one I like better, but I think I lean a little more towards After The Storm because of songs like "Don't Gotta Go Home" and "Go To Be Mad." All Eyez On Me was a great album too though. But I think the reason things didn't go well with it may have been the heavy Hip-Hop influence and all the sampling on All Eyez On Me, it was a drastic change from The Boy Is Mine.

But I agree that if they would have promoted All Eyez On Me and released better singles (like "U Should've Known" and maybe "What Hurts The Most" or "Ain't Gonna Cry No More") it would have at least gotten to see the light of day in the U.S. I don't think the critical response to it would have changed though. But all it takes is one hit song for an album to sell, it doesn't even matter what the rest of the album is like when it comes to sales.

yeah.. Monica's got the voice, and Aaliyah had the style. Her sound was always non-traditional. She had like a different sound on each album but each of them were great. She went from Hip-Hop Soul on the first two albums, to a fusion of R&B and Rock on the third. Brandy & Monica are more traditional R&B but Monica has an amazing voice, and the thing I like about her and Brandy both is you really feel them in there music. You feel the emotion and the pain.

I prefer Bran over Mo mainly bcause Brandy's songs are better. The first album was the best. I loved every song on it, except 1. where as with Mo, I only loved a few songs from her album. The way I differentiate the two is that Monica has the power and a tad-bit more soul but is ghetto, while Brandy has vocal technique and her voice is unique her good-girl quality is what pushed her further.

I don't really comparing people that I like though, because I feel like when it comes to R&B music, everyone that I like has their own place in the genre and there own specific purpose in the genre. I'm an R&B fanatic though. I pretty much love everyone in the genre. I jus saw that Brandy didnt even pick that song to be the 1st single on the CD. She said herself that she wanted other songs 1st.
This song does her voice no justice. Monica song on the other hand has the runs notes vocally the best. Both songs r hot but Mo got Bran Bran beat at this point.
Monica sung her song live maybe 5times already, but Bran has yet to do the 1st live show yet.

You can say Monica is better but the music she does is not hers she doesn't write and the few songs she did write didn't do anything for her ! Now Brandy writes 85% of her music and always makes them a Hit. Her voice is unique and super distinctive unlike Monica you can confuse her voice with any other singer. ever since brandy came out with baby she has always had dat pop thing oing on in she decide to explore that more with full moon .monica never changes.see that's da problem. everytime she comes out same beat n same song.when bran comesout shes always different .different stlye etc.brandy keep it new n fresh monica doesn't. Love Brandy & monica, but they are no Beyonce! They can't compete when the divas of today have power vocals Christina Aguliera, Beyonce, Leona Lewis(these are the millineum divas) two that have evolved from late 90's but have taken over.

u do have a point bran fans r white,black,etc. monica main audience is/black.brandy has alot more success b.c her music is pop/n/rnb which I've already done explain. bran goes 2 all tv stations .monica however doesn't try to expand her audience like bran. monica stays with blacks and bet almost all da time when brandy doesn't. this is what make bran more famous than monica.bran on trl, n bet,im glad bran did da pop thing.n is doing it alittle more

I think it was a smart move to make Everytime the Beat Drop, is club/dance music, which was popping at the time. Plus people have to remember that Monica is a crunk person. And I think Everytime the Beat Drop was alot of fun to record for MONICA!

Music has changed so much. Not for the best in most instances. Real music no longer exists, and real singing no longer exists. SO we need them to bring back music. Artist now of days sing about booty shaking at the clubs. No real life experiences that the audiences might have experienced. The world has just changed so much.And artist like brandy and monica needs to come back into the picture and present a real change.And we all need to support both of these women.And stop supporting crappyMusic

Reading all of these comments really let's you know that the majority of people that writes these comments don't understand music. These women of color don't have to compete against each other. They have voices that stand alone. Two different voices, and outstanding voices. Eventhough I have my opinion on who is better cause I have always been a Monica fan. I know that they are both great. Brandy and Monica needs to step up their game alittle bit more if they want to make it in this time of age

actually brandy's last album did fine not as good as never say never but when's the last time monica's had a hit and the stuff she's been releasing lately just isn't gonna cut it, its not the r&b monica we know and loved from the 90's i personally like brandy and monica but im a bigger fan of brandy and i love brandy's voice she has a beautiful voice she has her own unique sound and i like that
