  • i´m kind a confused why did you switched front and back postilion of BP, wouldn´t be better to have front on front and back on back ?

  • @snbmuca no, when you use shortcut keys l for left, t for top, f for front etc, it will be correct.

  • what is your 3D Studio version?

  • i have a problem, i create a plane, then i rotate and i see a black face

  • Very nice tutorial. Very quick and concise.

  • i don't know what i did but i fixed the viewport thing :D

  • why does my pictures get very blurred in 3ds max?? the images has big resolution like 6000x7000 in paint. but when i put it on the objects I cant even read the text :S

  • onnovanbraam, cheers mate :)

  • Hey, i just wanna ask one thing, every time i set my blueprint in 3ds max for modeling, the image (e.g front side car) looks blur and distorted in the viewport.

    plz help me with this...cheers

  • @MrLordleo14 You have to adjust your video card settings under Customize... > Viewport settings. Set everything to 'match bitmap as close as possible' and the highest number (512/1024), that should already help a lot.

  • thx buddy, youre the man!

  • showing the icons would make our work easier :)

  • everyime i try to change the dimensions of my panel it says cm. behind the numbers... and i think its messing up my picture cause everytime i upload the texture/ picture i see the same picture 20,000 times in the panel... so how do i change it so i dont have cm behind the numbers (width length)?

  • @riltjd I think you have to change your units, by going to Customize > Units Setup, display units: Generic units.

  • @onnovanbraam that wasnt it, but thanks anyway :D i fixed it already... but how does he turn around the world view? with what key?

  • @riltjd What do you mean with 'turn around the world view'? Rotating the view I have shortcutted under Ctrl + R.

It's the little elipses icon at the right corner of the program.

  • @onnovanbraam Yup thats it! thanks for the reply :D i can finnaly start modeling, heheh!!

  • @onnovanbraam and one more thing how do you make the plane visible in every perspective? because it doesnt show up for me in the front top and left views...

  • @riltjd Press F3 when that particular viewport is active? It switches between solid and wire view.

  • nice video but way to fast for tutorail and dont use shortkeys for it i would say :)

1 more question when ik in perspective and i rotate first of all all is going to rotate top left and side but when i want to look different sides in perspective how i get it in beginning position again.... so i have the original viwue back...there anny shortcut or button for it?

  • Pls may u stop mumble all the time !!!!

  • can u use paint to crop the pictures and junk?

  • can you do this without photoshop?

    i haven't photoshop.

  • @ramonhimself You can do this in any image editing program, you don't necessarily need PhotoShop for that. There are many free ones out there, the Gimp for example.

  • @onnovanbraam

    ok.

how can i add paint to 3ds max?

  • @ramonhimself ? Do you mean you want to add a shader to an object in 3D Max? If so, just look into the manual or some other texturing/shading video's on YouTube. I am not the 3D Max support desk. :)

  • @onnovanbraam no sorry. i mean a photo to 3ds max.

    xD

( ben je nederlands / do you speak dutch? )

  • @ramonhimself Yeah, I am ducth and indeed speak dutch as well. :)

To add a photo to an object, you have to go to the material editor, select the material, click the diffuse map channel slot, select bitmap and then select your bitmap. Then apply material to selected objects, or drag the material to the object, that works as well.

  • 2:13 i dont understand anything :\ what are you saying, move to zero?

  • Hiya mate sorry 4 a moronic question but in 3ds max how do you get it A. to snap together (no spaces between planes) and B. how to get the images to go in the right directions ? sorry dude any help appreciated

  • @LFCEVO24 A. Spaces between planes?, What do you mean with that exactly, because they're all orthogonally placed so they're never in the same spot. B. You can add a planar UVW map modifier to your plane and set the direction with the x, y, and z checkbox.

  • @onnovanbraam Cheers mate I'll give it all a try am a newbie just playing round ;)

  • What keyboard shortcut did you use to automatically center the planes?

  • @CEWAbenteuern You could try and move them half their height (set the z position) on the z-axis. At least I think that's what I did in this tutorial.

  • dudwase this is a great tutorial thanks for all the help

  • にゅうりょくはやい!、わたしわしっている、らんだむでしょ?

  • @Robots73 Speak english retard

  • @joe0134 I am German thank you very much. Du bist Böse.

  • @Robots73 Ich auch :D

  • @CEWAbenteuern Das ist Genial! Freunde?

  • @Robots73 Okay.

  • Great tutorial,,seen many before but nothing like yours...your very good to us..any chance of a car tutorial pls

  • how do i snap the planes togetther in the blueprints?

  • Do you know anything about C4D? The images wont show up in my other perspective views!

  • @drakeodude12 Unfortunately I only work with 3Ds Max. Sorry. :(

  • @drakeodude12 create a plane and add the image as a texture

  • hey cn u plz do a tutorial for 2011 because were all the buttons are is very different front urs plz help??

  • thanks i love you

  • lol u should realy learn what models are and how they work before u say it has nothing to do with programing noobs youl never learn what u talking about it has EVERY thing to do with programing how do u think ur able to make models lol stupid retard

  • to @lllllsp1d3rlllll, actually this tutorial helped me a lot. This should be very embarrassing for you. Try to understand before writing next time.

  • @lllllsp1d3rlllll I'm glad you have no idea what you're talking about. This is a tutorial on 3D Studio Max which has nothing to do with programming.

    Thanks for being an asshole.

  • @lllllsp1d3rlllll Actually this tutorial helped me a lot. This should be very embarrassing for you. Try to understand before writing next time.

  • Awesome quick tutorial video Onnovanbraam, learnt it and done it,had to keep pausing quite a few times to keep up with your quick typing and clicking but i managed it,now well on my way to begin modelling. Thanks very much. Cheers and keep it up 10/10 Maybe if you did do another tutorial video,i appreciate that it is time consuming, but would be a huge help to beginners like myself, could do it a bit slower and also maybe explain what you are clicking on and why, just brief details would suffice.

  • yes, i did. Has it maybe something to do that i use 3ds max 2010 ans the settings of the standard material are different than in older versions of 3ds max. I really don't now. Or has it something to do with the imagefile self. When I crop the image i have no white background anymore in coral paintshop but a checkerboard. When i load the image in to coral paintshop again i have a white background.

  • hi, when i setup the blueprints i have no blueprint on the plane anymore it just turns in to grey. Why is that i see that on some tutorials they just drop and drag the imagefile on the plane and there is not a single problem. Can you help me please.

  • @musiclover470 Did you click the 'Show map in viewport' button in your material editor?

  • please dear : how can I increase the resolution of the blueprint that applied on a plane ? please help me ?

  • @Ahmadhi22

If you're good with Photoshop or Macromedia Flash.. you could just re-draw the blueprints to achieve higher resolutions (less blurr during zooming while modeling).

  • Hi i have a question ..... I have a 3000 x 1599 blue print and when i drag it to plane the image is not clear when i zoom in why?? i will try your method to see

  • @devylcry At the end of the tutorial I give some quick tips on the image quality in your viewport and which settings to use, that should help you along.

  • @onnovanbraam Zou je pls een keer een mailtje ofso naar me willen sturen met de exacte beschrijving hoe je dit moet doen met 3ds max 2011? de oudere versie van het filmpje lijkt er zo weinig op dat ik het niet meer snap

    tnx alvast :P

  • how exactly did you crop the image out that quick?

  • @seashoresighter Select the area that you want to crop to (roughly), then press alt, then press i, then press p. It's a nice smooth motion if you do it both hands (alt with left thumb, i and p with right index and ring finger), so that's how I can do it quickly. With 'm' (selection mode) and the arrows (move current selection one pixel up/left/down/right), or with the shift pressed it goes 10 pixels up/left/down/right, you can move your selection around real easy and close up onto the edges.

  • @onnovanbraam well. i JUST started with the program. what should i start out doing?

  • whats that axis thing that i keep seeing people use. its the thing in the middle plz tell me how to use it.

  • @XeroTheroyIV What do you mean exactly? The XYZ Euler moving thing, with the colors? Because that is what you use to move _anything_...

  • @onnovanbraam yes but when i open 3ds max its not their and how to you make come up

  • @XeroTheroyIV Press 'x'?

  • @onnovanbraam I LOVE YOU

  • The quality on mine sucks really bad when I get it onto the plane but in my photoshop cs5 it shows superbly I'd say it's a tiny bit less quality then your blueprints but when it's in 3ds max the quality really goes down also the image does not show on BOTH sides of the plane how to fix?

  • crop crop crop crop.

  • THANK YOU SOOO MUCH and for a sec i thoughu sope a dif language but ur english THIS VID IS SUCH A HELP

  • I've 3DS Max 2010 but how can I import blueprints

because I don't have the same "screen" as you showed in the video

  • if i press assign material to selection it makes like a gazzillion images on my plane

how can i fix this ?? plz help

  • @fireglowrofl Add a UVW Map modifier and all should be well! :)

  • in your opinion, which websit eis the best for accurate blueprints if you know any.

  • @XxSLASH3RxX Perhaps my own website: the-blueprints . com :)

  • @onnovanbraam i dont like purchasable stuff. he ll get a totally free stuff link ;)>

  • thank's for this youtube video

  • helpppppppp, how do i get the imges to show in the side, top and front viewports?

  • @greekpanther1 Press F3 after activating the viewport?

  • @onnovanbraam i found out what it was now

  • the bitmap only shows up on one side of the plane

  • @ejimmy1995 What video driver do you use in 3D Max? OpenGL or Direct3D?

And have you checked 'double-sided' in the viewport options (right click the left top viewport name)? And also double sided in your material?

  • hi

how did u make your viewport have such high quality?

when I put my material on my plane, it gets choppy and low qual.

  • @crazybassman101 Go to: Customize > Preferences > Viewports > Configure Drivers. Then set Background Texture Size to 1024 and tick 'Match Bitmap as Close as Possible', Download Texture Size to 512 and also tick 'Match Bitmap as Close as Possible', Texel 'Lookup' to Linear and MipMap Lookup to 'Nearest'. This is all assuming you're using Direct3D (which you should! ;) ). Then restart 3D Max 'for the changes to take effect'. Should do the trick!

  • hi. should my reference images any particular size. because i cant get mine to fit in the viewport window!!!

  • @dezdetin What do you mean exactly? You first make the planes the size of your images (same relative size of width and height), then if they don't fit in your viewport you should zoom out! :)

  • yes, well, on the right of your video there's a menu called 'parameters' and inside it you can change 'lenght and width' when you want, but i can only modify it when i just create a plane you have that menu for ex. in 4:30 as i said. thanks for reply

  • @erikarman69 Is it greyed out when you click the modify panel?

  • Comment removed

  • @erikarman69 Which parameters? You mean for the plane: you can only change it once, the time you create it? And not once you created it, deselect it, select it, then go to the modifiy panel like I do?

  • i cannot change the parameters as you do. I only can change them when i just create a 'plane' , for example in 4:30. i've 3ds 2010. thanks a lot!

  • If you're teaching you could low down some and say how you are selecting things like the materials box...thanks

  • @suds42 Press 'm', or click the button on the right-top row with four little spheres, next to the three render teapots. :)

  • help i go to the texture thing then i add it and nothing

  • @MrRobotDuck 'The texture thing'? You have selected the object, made the texture, clicked the show in viewport button and then assigned the material?

  • @onnovanbraam Yeah That

  • @MrRobotDuck And then what? It doesn't show up in your viewport?

If it doesn't, does it show up when you render?

And you haven't clicked on the 'disable textures' thing at any point?

  • @onnovanbraam woops lol my rendering wasnt working thanks

  • you have to togle preview - it's a small cube (blue with white)when you are in the materials panel you should see it, it is the function "show standard map in viewport" just activate it and you should see your texture ;)

  • @Tomasz3kk I don't like one side viewports though. :)

  • Thanks bro you helped me a lot.
