  • What a lovely video - thank you debwal. To all the good people out there which has lost someone they loved - you are not alone - we are thinking of you and shares your loss. Take care everybody and have a great live.

  • fantastic urban teen!!!

    what a great video!

  • @norrmac1 I'm sure they are, pal. Someday you will all be reunited, but hopefully not for a very long time. My mother died when I was 19 at the age of 41, just 2 weeks her 41st birthday. My aunt (her sister) died at the age of 37. If I inherited traits from my mother (I did) then it won't be long before I'm reunited with her. I'm 27 now.

  • @jackslater230011 thanks for your thoughts. i am sorry for your loss, it is really sad to lose ones mother at such a young age., do not lose hope for yourself. i work for an ems service and today we took a patient to have a kidney transplant. the nurse said he would be out of the hospital in 5 days. kidney disease is what killed my grandmother. they are making amazing progress in all areas. i pray that you get to live my father's wish, which was to live to be 99 and shot by a jealous husband

  • EEEEEEE baby animals!

  • The simpsons :'(

  • @Waszma This song doesn't just remind of my mom, it also reminds of my dad. It's this type of music he grew up listening to. I'm 27 and I listen to music from the 40's, 50's and 60's as ell as the newer rock'n'roll. Nothing makes me happier than listening to music.

  • @Waszma Were born, we live, and we die. It's the natural process of life. She's alive in my heart and waiting for me in heaven and someday we will be reunited, but hopefully not for a long, long time. She died Oct. 15th, 2003. Two weeks after her 41st birthday. Your Mother is waiting for you too, man. Nobody saw it coming. The song itself was inspired by the death of the family dog and trying to explain death to his children. He just took the name from a chinese menu.

  • This song is great the simpsons play good songs :)

  • I shall have this treasure in my head all day *** thank you ALF.. *s*

  • beautiful

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! NO, SERIOUSLY.

  • the great Ernest Ranglin on guitar!

  • @EmmaMBBify Apparently, the rumor that he got the title from a Chinese menu is true. The song itself was inspired by the death of the family dog and trying to explain death to his children.

  • I wish my mother was still alive. This song always brings a tear to my eye. A good song nonetheless.

  • @jackslater230011 - I can relate. Thank you for watching and commenting,

  • @jackslater230011 I hear you man, me too. I see that EmmaMBBify referenced the chinese dish story. I think the song was inspired or prompted by that, but being ambiguous has it's real meaning in the reunion you hope for. I'd like to think she is still alive and waiting for you.

  • @jackslater230011

my father on his deathbed said he saw his mother on the other side of the river. he was 89 his mother died when he was 4. i pray that they are reunited after all these years.

  • Surprising that Mr. Simon kept his wits whilst married to Princess Leiah..lol

  • this song is so beautiful.. i have tears in my eyes..

  • @colourfulnecklace - I hope they are happy-tears, you sensitive thang. Thank you for watching and commenting. :)

  • It's actually about a lot of stuff:

    Look it up on Snopes

He got the title from a Chinese Dish (chicken and eggs) "Mother and Child Reunion"

  • @EmmaMBBify - I don't wanna look it up on Snopes. This lil' slide show has my own simplistic interpretation, and I like it. But thanks for watching and commenting.

  • @EmmaMBBify Yes, and some people claim it's written about a dead dog. But it's a beautiful, multi-facetted song, and a very mysterious one, and it means to each of us what we want it to mean. debwal's video expresses what it means to her, and it's a touching video almost as beautiful as the song itself.

  • @MichaelDPorter - You stated it perfectly (and thank you)

  • is this song about a child commiting siucide becasu there mother died? just wondering..................

  • @Anni92092 - I gave it my own meaning, and it is joyful in this slide show. Dunno what 's Paul Simon's meaning. Just like the song.

  • is this song about a child commiting siucide becasu there mother died?

  • So heartwarming!! Sweet vid!!

  • wonderful

  • One of the GREAT GREAT songs of the 20th Century .... thank you for posting ...

  • Love is an expression of maternal instincts. I feel so blessed watching the video! Thanks a million for sharing!

  • Beautiful (video and song)

  • Great video. Thanks for posting it..........

  • beautiful song great video thank you

  • @unsureowl -Thanks

  • Just because he got the phrase "Mother and child reunion" from a menu doesn't mean that is what the song is about. Paul may have meant it about his dog when he wrote it, but the meaning of a song is determined by the listener. When a song is able to resonate with people, it's a good song. Stop making stupid comments that every song is about drugs or some stupid crap because it's probably not true, and even if, it just doesn't matter.

  • @81meganmarie - Didn't give it much thought when I made this little slide show. I love animals & I like this tune. (Been kind of surprised by the amount of commentary about Paul Simon's meaning here).

  • @debwal The video is lovely and I thank you for making it. I sought this song out on a strange and mournful day when I went from joking with a friend about her pregnancy to comforting her about it's end. It's rare to find a piece of art that can be comforting in a situation such as that. I just don't see why so many snotty know-it-alls want to take away meaning from what others find poignant. This applies to so many things these days. It's very sad.

  • @81meganmarie - What a thoughtful and kind reply. (Methinks I should go check-out your channel). TY

  • my aunt died in 2002 and her daughter did in 1984 at the age f 4...the song speaks for its self

  • @acandycolorednick - Sorry for your losses. Thanks for commenting.

  • A beautiful song.

  • A beautiful song.

  • great song

  • Its also about reincarnation. Lifeime..s over and over again. By general creed all of Mother Earth, including humanity, is reincarnated. Contrary to being 'in sin'. Loved the video too. Thans for sharing!

  • You didn't disrespect anything. I like your video. I love the

tune. The tune is what you think it is. Paul Simon wrote the

tune about the death of his family dog............. MERC

  • My appologies. I didn't mean to disrespect. Actually, I very much liked the video you put together. I've watched it several times, and thank you for posting it. I didn't mean to be morbid. Just wanted to express kind of a a fun fact.

  • @FretNoise900 - No disrespect taken. Thank you for commenting. As you may have noticed, a lot of the comments on this slide show are about the meaning of Paul Simon's lyrics. I found the commentary here interesting.

  • Actually, this song is about a dish Paul Simon found in a Chinese Menu. It was called a "Mother and Child Reunion" and it was chicken and eggs. This is what modern music needs, less lyrics and more music. I love how Paul Simon is able to just fuse words and make them sound beautiful. Whether this song means anything or not doesn't really matter, just the fact that it sounds amazing is good enough. Modern day musicians should stop referring to bitches hoes and drugs and just write music.

  • FYI, the song is about reuniting a mother and child...AFTER DEATH! Read the lyrics. A strange and mournful day? And so on.

  • @FretNoise900 - Yes, I know that. I've heard several interpretations of this song. I decided to put a positive connotation to it, because I like the tune, and I like animals. Simple animal slide shows make me feel good.

If you would like to make a very depressing video to go with this tune, feel free to do so.

  • Perfect video to accompany this song.!!! WTG!!! :D Mother & Child Reunion is one of my top 5 favorite songs of ALL TIME!!!

  • i love my mother.surely parents are god's best creations

  • Drummer is amazing; I wonder if it was done in one take. I've never seen any credits for him/her.

    Great photos, btw

  • @RowJnr According to wikipedia, the drummer was Winston Grennan. Hope this helps. :)

  • make peace with ur love ones

  • Had a life changing dream last night, realizing high school is over and how fast my life is gonna go by. Want my mom there in the future. Really want my mom to be there in the future, just hope she will be after she finds out who I really am.

  • Really enjoyed watching all the different moms and babes with this song, thanks for sharing!!!!!!

  • If it weren't for your mother you wouldn't be here.Always remeber that when she gets old and needs your help.

  • When I watch the Simpsons scene of this, I get teary.

  • The first time I heard Paul Simon without Art was with this song and it inmediatly struck me. Guess at that time I haven't heard many reggae songs and surely I was unaware of the genre. Still love it after all those years.

  • That's a great song ! Listen to Jack Johnson's cover, he did this song live :)

  • @keithweithy sorry for your loss, and its good you find this vid comforting, you just do what you can to get through . good luck

  • More Sugar! More Sugar!

    No...

    Why Not?

    Because You're Sweet Enough.

  • @angelbabeof69 Proper crying moment there.

  • This song is about food. Breakfast is egg, which is the "child." Lunch is chicken, the "mother." They reunite in Paul Simon's stomach. True story.

  • @FrontalTraction This is about his young dog who snuck out of the house and was killed by a car. 2 weeks after the young dogs mother passed. They are reunited.

  • @FrontalTraction you are right about it being food but it has nothing to do with eggs or chicken it is a chinesse dish and it is called mother and child reunion

  • @KYHorse79 This is about paul simon tucking into a Chicken and Mayo sandwich...realized that mayo was made out of eggs then spat it out. Wrote the song accordingly.

  • how comforting

  • My mother died on Sunday and my cat died on Monday....and I have been watching this video over and over. It is comforting.

  • @KeithWeithy - Hang in there, sweetie. It gets better in time.

Sending love and light your way across the webz (corny, but true). Tonight at my house, I light a candle for your Mom and your cat, and for you ~~ Deb

  • @debwal People like you are the reason I have NOT lost all faith in humanity.

  • @MurasakiFujiwara - Thank you!

  • @KeithWeithy keep your chin up mate its never easy ""

  • @KeithWeithy Yeah I'm sorry to hear this. Dont know you at all but still sad.

  • @KeithWeithy HOLD ON THINGS WILL GET BETTER

  • @KeithWeithy im so sorry it is a sad world , god bless you x

  • @KeithWeithy sorry for your loss

  • I like the hippos

  • One of them top tunes of the 20th C.

Not for the Lou 'Baby' Cool - can't play an instrument 'muso's type, but fuck them (if they're lucky)!

  • What kind of animal was that last one???

  • @Rob7194 A homo sapiens and her son

  • Me: Paul Simon "Mother & Child Reunion" (speaking of Chinese restaurant menus, specifically). the song's about "the #3", literally 9:56 AM

Me: according to paul 9:56 AM

look it up :) i could be wrong about the #3, tho

  • RIP Mona Simpson

  • The 5 dislikes must just be some tone deff fools!

OMG I HEARD Sound of Silence like 2 weeks ago and i was like that song is so F%$@#&@ sick..... and i have always loved this song so when i found out this song was made by Paul Simon i freakin like it like 50000x more now!

    PAUL SIMON FOR THE WIN!

  • Hope this gets through first time posting . Great song and video deb dont let those who dont like it get you down they are on heavy medication and the wrong kind

  • deb that was a great video, had been a long time since I had listened to paul and the slideshow was perfect , anybody that didnt like that was on heavy medication and the wrong kind

  • 5 people have no mother.

  • My kids LOVE this video!

  • 4 didn't like it. uh huh. Okay they didn't like the video maybe, what possible

reason:maybe too corny, but really? They didn't like the song, well it's a pretty

big hit from a very proven quality artist, and not a bad tune, so really? What we probably have are let's face it 4 trolls, who don't like much of frickin anything, really.

  • @17865329 - There's something to critique in all things--I guess that is some people's perspective. Anyway--I ain't going for high art. Animal photos make me smile and I like simple slide shows.

    Thanks for your comment.

  • @debwal Well put. I LOVE this song...and the video is appropriate. I love it....then again I'm a huge animal lover. Everyone has an opinion, but some people really need to learn how to critique, not criticize. Mama always said....if u have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all. Thanks for posting and sharing this great video.....Smooches!

  • @17865329

Maybe some people didn't like it because the slideshow doesn't reflect the subject of the song. The song was a Vietnam era war protest about all the mothers who lost their sons and daughters in that useless conflict. Personally, I think the video is a unique perspective on the song; not bad just different.

  • @bsteinagel Nope, Paul Simon says it's actually about his reaction to the death

of their family dog, and the "Mother and child reunion" is actually about a dish

on a menu at a Chinese restaurant. You guys are hilarious with your "deep

interpretations" you want to put on everything though. By the way Paul McCartney,

    still not dead.

  • @17865329 reading your reply made me want to do some research of my own and you are right. I was surprised to see all the additional interpretations of this song as well. Guess I was wrong, and had to open my mouth to show my naivete. Oh, well. And no, I'm not one of those who thinks Paul is dead. I think the whole "walrus is Paul" thing was a big joke.

  • @bsteinagel Well, you are somebody who is classy and humble enough to admit that you were wrong, on what is probably a pretty trivial point anyway. Good post,

and isn't it funny, how you actually look better for being wrong. No worries. Good on you, because there are a lot of people on YouTube who wouldn't have been as gracious about it as you.

  • @17865329 how many times can you say "really?" in one rant? get a new catchphrase please that one is tired

  • Now this is music. The music today isn't music, its garbage. Just my two cents.

  • @WarBirdMan1 - I like lots of current music, but I still listen to the old stuff more. :)

  • @WarBirdMan1 But you speak the truth with your two cents worth

  • Paul is the best songwrither ever. When I first heard about him, 1966 - "Sound of silence"

I was so in love in that group, Simon & Garfunkel, they were sympatetic well..good people with warm inside..heart...Thanks for posting

  • @christer1947ify Yeah, you're right: Paul Simon is every bit as skilled and musically gifted as the so much beloved Paul Mc Cartney and John Lennon! And that is not supposed to mean that I don't love their music, too!

  • @christer1947ify - Hi - I like Simon a lot, too.

  • I'm told that this is the title of a Chinese dish involving a chicken and egg.

  • Love this Paul Simon tune and what a sweet video you chose. Thanks =)

  • My fav Paul Simon tune. Love your choice of video with it. Thanks =)

  • beautiful song, cute video i swear this proves it nothing is stronger then a mothers love for their child :')

  • THIS IS TOTALLY BEAUTIFUL..THANK YOU FOR POSTING...I <3 IT...

  • The song title did indeed come from a dish that Paul Simon had at a Chinese restaurant. He thought it would a great name for a song. The song itself is about the death of his dog. Apparently he and his family were moving into a new house and their pet dog got loose and ran into the street and got killed by a car. The same thing happened to my cat and my friend told me about the meaning of the song.

  • @cowpance You have it exactly right.

  • @cowpance THANKYOU, for setting these people straight.

  • "The mother and child reunion is only a motion away..." The mother considering suicide to be rejoined with her dead child. The video isn't really in keeping with the message of the song, nor are 99% of the comments. What a "strange and mournful day" when I realise most people don't care about the real strength of Paul Simon's music - his lyrics.

  • @Zigiwy I agree. I was just thinking the same thought. I've always considered this to be one of the grimmest, saddest songs to ever be a top 40 hit. although I've always interpreted it to be about the police arriving to tell the mother that they've found her missing child, and the news is very very bad. "I can't for the life of me remember a sadder day". this kind of reminds me of all the people who play "I will always love you" at their weddings.

  • @epicmeade "kind of reminds me of all the people who play "I will always love you" at their weddings." Haha, yeah don't you just love it when the sound bite generation try to explore the depths of popular culture? We're talking eyes closed, swim ring and snorkel. Thanks for the reply :)

  • @Zigiwy - Make one of your own. :P

  • WOW.........

  • what a wonderful song, makes me want to hug my mom.

  • this was absolutely fab....heart warming stuff

  • lovely!

  • Thank you this is great & the photos-wow !!

  • Off the hook!! Nicely dun...Saved as my favourites !!!

  • the pictures are so sweet

  • How the Hell did 2 people "NOT" like this?!?

  • GREAT video. Thank you for your post.

  • very well done video.....thxs for the time you took to make it!

  • excellent song: )

  • He wrote the song after having a dinner that included chicken and egg.

  • @crowsong111 haha really? thats sad :(
