400,000 VIEWS!!! THE FUNK IS HERE TO STAY!!!!! you all rock, besides the 18 people that had brain aneurysms while watching and hit the dislike button as they died due to a melted brain.
Sonofabitch, just found this. This is probably the best goddamn guitar work I've ever heard. I've seen some of the best live , David Gilmour, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, Eddie Van Halen, Mark Knopfler, Steve Vai, Brian May, Willie Nelson (yes I mean that, if you've ever heard him live you'd understand)...but by far, Eddie & Mike blow them away. George & P-Funk, PLEASE COME TO EL PASO.
For the record, for everyone who thinks Eddie was a perpetual junkie, he was stone cold straight playing this. I was at the concert before this one and we spent some time together. He did no drugs that weekend. That's a fact.
eddie plays with emotions. george told eddie play the song like you just heard your momma just died. then you found out she is alive. that's why mike's versions will always be eddie. listen. note for note. not really understanding what each note means. he plays with alot of passsion now. heard this song when i was 11. and cried!! i got it!!
this is and always will be eddie's song. george kissed mike's ass at the end . eddie can change notes, mike can.t. he plays eddie's notes. green eye monster a bitch
Eddie is on The Rolling Stone 100 Greatest Guitarists list for a reason...melodic, powerful, full of emotion and totally commited, and Hampton is spot on with him...and my fellow Metal heads are always blown away that I love Funk so much...THIS IS WHY!
It's a two guitar part, but the closest, most beautiful, single guitar rendition is played by Dean Ween. Two guitar with Buckethead involved is insane. Eddie was #1.
Eddie played this on some variety show back in the 70's and had acid in his head band and he was sweating his ass off and trippin hardcore, someone should post that clip he killed the shit outta that performance
That indescribable performance melted my face, my brain, and part of my spleen. Much due respect to both Eddie (R.I.P.) and Michael. I hope we can stop comparing these two guitar gods (Jimi and Ernie too).
THE FIRST TIME I HEARD IT I MADE LOVE TO IT WHAT AN EXPERIENCE... NEVER AGAIN OR SINCE HAVE I HAD SUCH PLEASURE.. IT WASNT THE JUST THE MAN IT WAS THE MUSIC...
here's a question for you.. who do you think is better: Ernie Isley or Eddie Hazel? Or can you really compare the two? I'd like an educated response please.. thx
@funkedbyinjection RESPECT! no argument from me, just glad to see another sage reply to this awesome video. i agree one of my biggest life frustrations has been the failure of my own people to embrace music they helped create (ben harper, living colour, fishbone, 24-7 spyz, the bus boys and all the ones i mentioned have primarily White audiences as well). lets hope the afro-punk movement brings folks back! thanks for your reply!
@funkedbyinjection .......I agree with you totally, and this is just my opinion Parliament was geared mostly towards the black community and Funkadelic was just were the could let loose and jam

Eddie Hazel was one of the greatest guitarists of all time. It's a shame so few know his name, but hopefully video posts like this will help rectify that. Sad story about his life, like so many other greats.
There were a lot of great rock songs from Arican-American artists I discovered through my uncles. Maggot Brain is the best. Also check out Graham Central Station's "Earthquake" and Slave has a song called "Volcano Rupture" that rocks.
In the history of mother earth the maggoliciuosness of the earternal vibrations expressed in the petritued fungi of mental afronautic soul ejaculatiion extruded from the mammillary suataining orifice funkadelic expectorated a physical manifestation of funktification upon the spiritual plattitude of my diarhetic condition I was mutated to formulate a pubesent astrologic flight within the depths of my soul The purgative salvation congealed upon my being with one purpose to funknotize my a_s 4ever

Urinating warm maggot slim into the cup I willingly drink from Funkadelic has reaffirmed my faith in the existence of intergalactic funk. @alexwilsonNC i appreciate what you have to say, but music was effectively segregated when rock and roll ceased to be called "n-word music" and Elvis & Co came along to bring it to the White masses (1950s). From then on unless your name was Jimi Hendrix, and possibly Prince (1980s) or Lenny Kravitz (1990s) and Ben Harper & TVOTR (2000s) Black musicians have not been supported by the music establishment as "rock and roll acts." Fishbone + Living Colour were supported but NOT today.
I have loved this band my entire life, and this video reminds me of why I have. Eddie and Mike completely turned it out. I only wish the kids would stop trying to decide who is better. These guys were friends for years, They appreciated each others gifts. Oh, and FYI, Who played maggot brain at Eddie's funeral... Mike Hampton, enough said
@supergolfer257 yeah, i have been listening this band for about a month sorry i am only 15 and listen to other awesome stuff but funkadelic is now my second best band after led zeppelin... Thank you for this video dude.
Aahhhh, kids. Shit, I've been listening to this since it FIRST came out, way back in the early 1970s.
Music, TRUE music knows no color, no sex barriers. Witness: Lindsay Buckingham. Patty Quatro. Victor Wooten on bass. Or John McVee. I could go on for hours
Heard someone perform this live over the 4th July weekend and decided to look it up. I'm a die-hard Prince fan but this guitar solo is one of the best I've ever heard!
Holy Smokes!!! My face just melted!!!! The album version of the song was one of the awesomest things I've heard..... I And this is so much more rockin' amazing!! Eddie Hazel = Legend
@jayson201 Well, Hendrix was a big influence on eddie (if you couldn't already tell from the records! :D ) So that's sorta true, well, at least in my eyes
lol @ 17 dislikes. they must not have hearing or are hearing impaired. Amazing things deserve acclaimed credit, not discredited, non talented opinions of a song. For instance to say a song like this not inspirational, one must be without passion or emotion to not feel what was just heard. P.P.P.EACE!!!
one lazy afternoon i was just lying on the bed with my ipod and suddenly this song started; i had never heard it before. and i asked myself am i in heaven?
That's what this do! I remember seeing the whole P-funk nation, prior to the first day of freshman class... thx mom, for that! Got a lil high though, but that comes with the territory. I've wanted to learn the guitar every since. Fuck black, fuck white... this is one of the greatest g-solo's ever. How the fuck are 17 dislikes?? To each his own though... Think this tune went straight up to a nr1. of my alltime favourites...Unbelievable guitarr, i just float away when lisening to it.. +++++++++++
Fuck this is awsome...but i cant help thinking its slightly sped up...and it sounds a little too squealy. Maybe its me...but how would one fix this if thats the case?
i see a link that is titled greatest american guitaris: eddie hazel vs slash. how pointless. im a great slash fan but even i admit hes not good enough to change eddies strings.
Incredible indeed Eddie Hazel is the original guitar Mike Hampton followed and became known as Kidd Funkadelic. Garry Shider was the guitarist who wore the diaper he was Starchild. He died a few months back. Bootsy Collins was one of the bass players. George Clinton is a genius. Bernie The Wizard Worrell is behind a lot of the music. I saw them probably thirty times in concert. Check out Mommy Mommy What's A Funkadelic.
@dj4him Yeah, I probably should have qualified that statement with "Most" _____people. I played guitar for about 15 years before I had even heard of him, and I never hear his name brought up in mainstream "Best guitarist" conversations. I bring him up, and everyone is like, "who?"...
Unbelievable. Amazing. I love Eddie... I've always found it sad that the "R&B" genre became so computerized... People will listen to samples and not remember or consider the original... Parliament, Funkadelic, and other real R&B & funk bands put such a strong emphasis on muscianship... then it all disappeared. In this vid: Eddie could school 99% of all guitar players, anytime, anywhere... Eddie was amazing, under-rated, under-appreciatred, and TASTY. Really, that's it: TASTY.
i usually dont comment on videos, i just enjoy them. not sure how i found this and i feel nothing but anger for not hearing this before. THIS IS WHAT ITS SUPPOSED TO BE. the next idiot who tells me that brothers cant play guitar is getting strapped in to listen to this man.
@marples88 People like Jimmy Hendricks and black groups like Funkadelic were the ones who took ROCK to the level it is at now. Michael & Eddie were two of the best.
@marples88 Someone told you "brother's" can't play guitar and you believed them?! Shame on you! the best part of music is that it doesn't matter where it comes from or who, just that it can reach your ears and you enjoy it.
@marples88 I'm a white guy.... but all of my favourite guitarists are 'brothers' ! This is amazing - only started listening to Parliament/Funkadelic through being a Prince fan, but this is off the scale...
"...And to this very day people still ask me: so how did you got that tone in that song (Maggot Brain) and I still tell them: there is no trick, there is NO 'secret guitar' its just that.. Well I dont know how to explain this but the best guitar pick you can use is raw emotion" -Eddie Hazel-
@beginnerjay : what most people don't know is that Eddie was as close to "clean" as he could be during this tour.. I spent a weekend with him and the only thing he did was drink some beer. that's all. no drugs. 1984 rolled around and he was using again. he was forever fighting that demon.
THIS IS A DAMN GOOD VERSION OF MAGGOT BRAIN EDDIE HAZEL & MICHAEL HAMPTON DUELING IT OUT. I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG "ALL VERSIONS"....MAKE MY FUNK A P-FUNK!!!!!!!!!
THIS IS A DMN GOOD VERSION OF MAGGOT BRAIN EDDIE HAZEL & MICHAEL HAMPTON DUELING IT OUT. I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG "ALL VERSIONS"....MAKE MY FUNK A P-FUNK!!!!!!!!!
This has been a favorite song of mine since high school. A long long time ago. Eddie does so much with that e minor pentatonic scale. I love to crank to eleven and rock out to this. Great song to improvise with. This song completely changed my mind about so many things along the black versus white musical ideas.
Black Hole Space has opened above me The tasting of blood is fresh upon our lips Juggernauts of sight and sound Bless me with your radiance Possess me, take me to your residence I am fallen to my knees, to plead to implore you and warn you the only thing we need is now the only thing to fear is how How blessed am I, How light do I feel I can swim through the ground See your brain through my ears But I will not let the water touch my face I'll just keep rising Above it All (Thanks Eddie)
@supergolfer257 thx so much for posting this vid. my last name happens to be Hazel, and in sheer coincidence last week, I happened to search for musicians with my last name, and of course Eddie Hazel's name pops up. Maybe I'm related maybe not. With no previous knowledge of Eddie or his great guitar expliots, I watch this video and man... there are no words for it. All I know is my research of Eddie has just begun. If there is any more of his music you know of please post it!!!

White people have never heard of Eddie Hazel. What's really sad is black people havent heard of him either.

@cydonianpsycho ...incorrecto-mundo...my friend....!!
dj4him 11 months ago
@dj4him Yeah, I probably should have qualified that statement with "Most" _____people. I played guitar for about 15 years before I had even heard of him, and I never hear his name brought up in mainstream "Best guitarist" conversations. I bring him up, and everyone is like, "who?"...
cydonianpsycho 11 months ago
Unbelievable. Amazing. I love Eddie... I've always found it sad that the "R&B" genre became so computerized... People will listen to samples and not remember or consider the original... Parliament, Funkadelic, and other real R&B & funk bands put such a strong emphasis on muscianship... then it all disappeared. In this vid: Eddie could school 99% of all guitar players, anytime, anywhere... Eddie was amazing, under-rated, under-appreciatred, and TASTY. Really, that's it: TASTY.

supergolfer257 1 year ago 19
@marples88 on the contrary, some of the best guitarist ever have been black including arguably the greatest in hendrix.
vicodinzz 1 year ago
@vicodinzz i wouldn't say it's even arguable my friend. Hendrix is the greatest ever.
MikeC26GH 11 months ago
@MikeC26GH Why is that? Because everyone else says he is?
TrembleKlef 11 months ago
@MikeC26GH I agree but it can be(and is) argued about, thus is arguable.

@vicodinzz okay, fag.

@marples88 People like Jimmy Hendricks and black groups like Funkadelic were the ones who took ROCK to the level it is at now.

@marples88 People like Jimmy Hendricks and black groups like Funkadelic were the ones who took ROCK to the level it is at now. Michael & Eddie were two of the best.

@marples88 Someone told you "brother's" can't play guitar and you believed them?! Shame on you! the best part of music is that it doesn't matter where it comes from or who, just that it can reach your ears and you enjoy it.
tripe4lunch 9 months ago 2
@marples88 Not to tell you what to do, or not to do, but I'd suggest just being happy that you've found it.
As as what people say about Brothers not being able to play... fuck 'em.
GeneLattanzi 7 months ago
@marples88 I'm a white guy.... but all of my favourite guitarists are 'brothers' ! This is amazing - only started listening to Parliament/Funkadelic through being a Prince fan, but this is off the scale...
mrevonomis 6 months ago
@marples88 No body says they cant, in fact many regard Jimi Hendrix as the greatest of all time. Stop splitting hairs, we're all human.

I recently found this quote on the Internet:
"...And to this very day people still ask me: so how did you got that tone in that song (Maggot Brain) and I still tell them: there is no trick, there is NO 'secret guitar' its just that.. Well I dont know how to explain this but the best guitar pick you can use is raw emotion" -Eddie Hazel-
Enough said.

@beginnerjay : what most people don't know is that Eddie was as close to "clean" as he could be during this tour.. I spent a weekend with him and the only thing he did was drink some beer. that's all. no drugs. 1984 rolled around and he was using again. he was forever fighting that demon.

This has been a favorite song of mine since high school. A long long time ago. Eddie does so much with that e minor pentatonic scale. I love to crank to eleven and rock out to this. Great song to improvise with. This song completely changed my mind about so many things along the black versus white musical ideas.
