  • It looks like a middle way between Boletus Edulis and Pinicola ! We haven't this kind of boletus in Italy

  • Good hunting for sure, but darlin, really, please tale a knife with you on the future hunts. It's very important NOT to just pluck the shrooms but rather cut them from the base. When just pulled from the ground u destroy any potential for future mushrooms to grow. This is one of the crutial rules of a sustainable mushroom hunters ethic.

  • I understand your concern, but my feeling is that boletus mushrooms are fine to pull from the ground. Also, no scientific research proves your 'crutial rule'. That being said, I use a knife for harvesting morels, chanterelles, and other edible mushrooms.

  • @forestgirly

If you look at the base of the kings he is plucking there is very little mycelium attached. Most of this fruiting body is going to rot or be eaten by fly larva anyway. The organism anticipates losing the fruiting body so to speak. This topic is a common divide among pickers, but I think its safe to say that pulling boletes is not any more harmful than what is happening in nature. I do suggest covering the holes left over so that the mycelium doesn't dry out.

  • @VikingStreake. Well said. Thank you for commenting. 'Correct' ways of harvesting mushrooms is always a tricky subject-making absolute judgements on right and wrong only limits are understanding of nature.

  • @forestgirly

Thats pure superstition - scientific surveys show that the mycelium doesnt take any damage as long as you twiddle out the shroom carefully.

  • Nice find !! I didn't find very many Kings this year, the weather wasn't quit right for them. Ate all of them with a fat juicy steak.

  • Great video. Would like to see more of these kinds of videos. Can you help point me in the right direction. Not only do I want to see picking but identification and cooking mushroom videos.

I'm founder / president of the Del Norte Mushroom club in Crescent City CA. Just got off the ground in Feb. 13 members so far and growing !
