I remember a "B" side that marvin sang.."God is my friend".....such a beautiful song.....check it out if you can find it. The 45 was stolen from me. I wish i could find it again. Can anyone send me an MP3 if you have it.......detroitspinner@yahoo.com.........Thanks.!
I defy the individual that can listen to this song and not be touched by it. Absolutely heart wrenching! It sends me into a melancholy that have the tears flowing. There's no doubt that God was speaking to Marvin when he recorded this most unbelievably emotional track. Between this and God is love (b side version), my going home music.
I don't know now, @usmanioa is kinda on to something in my opinion. Though it is hard to compare one to a great like Marvin Gaye, the way John Legend composed and sung Wholy Holy was great in itself. (So I think @usmanioa isn't going to hell for implying that John Legend's version is possibly more likeable than Marvin's).
BEFORE HIS TIME IN HIS TIME MR. GAYE WAS ,IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE THE GREATEST SONG WRITER AND SINGER.... NOW ALL YOU WANNA BE'SSS LISTEN AND LEARN FROM THE MASTER.. REAL TALK!!!
@usmanioa Yes, you are crazy to say that John Legend's version is BETTER. While I like John Legend, he is not even in the same league as the Master Marvin. Marvin was way ahead of his time he was at the top of his game in creativity when he made this album. A true genius! Sorry. John Legend is good, but he will never be great. He will be one of many who tried to walk in Marvin's footsteps, but came up short.
This song will always remind me of the good olde days I use to spend with my family on friday nights. Marvin is truly missed not only by the his fans but the music industry as well.
Love oneanother as he LOVES US . The only way to concur hate and evil division . This nation and the world needs to turn back to our first LOVE the son of the TRUE AND LIVING GOD JESUS CHRIST, before it destroyes it self time is running out get ready JESUS IS COMING BACK TO GETHER HIS CHURCH SOON VERRRRRRRRRRY SOOOOOOOOOON . If You Have GOD IN YOUR LIFE REMEMBER ONE THING "GOD IS LOVE" LOVE CONCORS ALL, MAY THE LOVE OF GOD BLESS US ALL WE ARE HIS CHILDREN. IF WE DO OUR PART HE WILL DO HIS BLESS
I remember listening to this song with a friend of mine who was depressed and going through the bad hands that life can deal us. We sat and wrote poetry that we recited with this song in the background. It was truly a display of human emotion and friendship at its most intense.
@newtcummer1 im glad to hear that u was there for your friend, I hope the connection u felt with ya depressed friend during his/her troubling moments will leave a mark on ya heart for the rest of your life Peace!
This song is soooo soulful and spiritual you can't help but love this song and Marvin Gaye is by far my favorite singer. His feelings are in all of his songs it makes you feel like every song is giving you a peek into his heart and into his soul.Love him and his music forever
Even as an atheist I marvel at the deeply spiritual message that this song conveys. I share Marvin's and his collaborators desire for a better world despite the ways things are today. The arrangement, lyrics and performance encourages me to persevere and remain optimistic that better days are ahead al of us. The song is amazing, peace to all.
Wow...Aretha Franklin's arrangement is totally different from Marvin's... However, I love Aretha's version of it tho.

if ever there was a song that showed the true spirit of Marvin Gaye..i think this is it.
he may have had imperfections like man does, but his spirit was pure and sincere.
Miss you Marvin, pray for us.

Man, John Legend did a cover of this song. It's on his new album "Wake up!".
I would have thought John was a gospel singer, the way he sung that song.
John did this song justice.
R.I.P Marvin Gaye.
