@margix Korean? Oh I thought it was British design and Indian Finance(TATA). No Korean was involved with the development as far as I know. They might make parts of the car, but then they do for all the Brands in the World. Nah mate it's a beast, admittedly only looks good in Darker colours, but is a beast. It has power written all over it, and I mean Red Carpet power, which is the idea of a car like this. Oh the Bertone example you talk of is cool too. Would be a great replacement for the XF.

@margix Unfortunately, Americans and other foriegners have a rather outdated view as to what a Jag should looks like. British people do not have high tea everday, nor do we wear tophats. The old S type looked like a london taxi, which was based on a 50 year old design (I'm referring to that nasty shield like grill). It was also this design that put many younger buyers off. Also, it looks nothing like a korean car. If you want a Jag that resembles a korean car, then the xf's headlights kind of do

@margix It is not based on the old Jag, but it is a Jag nonetheless. Mini may have had success, but it does not necessarily mean that Jag would experience the same level of consumer interest. Whilst I did like the old XJ and x type, I hated the look of the S type. In the end, Jag needs money to survive. Pandering to nostalgia and Uncle Sam's tastes would result in bankruptcy probably.

@margix I would buy the XJ if I had the cash, not to impress members of the opposite gender, but because I really like the styling of it. I like the old e type, but convertibles never were my thing. How does the XJ look korean? The XF looks korean (headlamps) but definitely not the XJ. Korean cars have that plastic look to them, like they were constructed out of cheap melted down bottles. Badly proportioned too. Some old cars look better than their newer counterparts e.g rolls royce phantom.

No other carmaker has ever done this. They can make them look mean, aerodynamic, and aggressive but they can't make give them that lifelike theme that Jaguar is known for.

Every car is designed and built with passion, Just listen to the way Ian Callum and the design team talk about their design. Listen to the engineers the way they talk about the struggles and acomplishments. Look at the care the people on the assembly line give to each car. Every aspect of Jaguar is built around the passion for what they do

Man, four "thumb downs" for expressing the obvious... that this Jaguar looks much less like what we conventionally think of as a "Jaguar" but rather much more reminiscent of a Citroen C6.

The back is absolutely reminiscent of a Citroen C6, with the elongated rear windows, the vertically wrapped arround tail light.

Obviously it's still a Jaguar, so it has more grandeur, presence and quality than a French POS, but this design style is in the air, and not at all original or Jaguar-born.

My girlfriend, who has no clue about cars, loved it when she first saw it... but I, as a huge car dork, a fan of Jaguars since 6 decades ago (I'm only in my late 20s but I follow Jaguar's history with passion), I was appalled and dismayed.

Call me a purist if you want, but the shift from the XJ of before and this XJ is so dramatic, it's a paradigm shift, it's a revolution, as in that it brakes away with all continuity, with all tradition, with all DNA as you put it... the jury is out.

I am 18, and have been a Jaguar freak forever. Right now I have 3 jaguars to my name (2004 x-type 2002 XJR 1986 XJ6). While yes I do think that it is a very sudden change for the xj, I also think, its about time for a change! Its still a Jaguar, Its stunning, powerful, elegant, comfortable. Everything a Jaguar should be. Yes, I LOVE the old style, but I LOVE the new style. Jaguar has been making the old style for YEARS with little changes. Jaguar remains my favorite automobile.

If you want the old body style, look at the 2009. That is an absolutely STUNNING representation of the old style Jaguar. AND it has HUGE power and class. When I get out of SCAD, I might just get both the 2009 XJR and the 2010 XJ (possibly R). That is if I get an excelent paying job as an architect...

Good luck with getting that job. The '09s are nice but there has been some reports of electrical/wiring problems already, I think the '04-'07 which is slightly different might be a bit better, it has received lots of praise for it's reliability & build quality. The new XJ's top performance model will be called the XJ Supersport, not the XJR as it was previously known as, the Supersport features a 510 hp V8. It will be one amazing machine!

Yes I know they have the XJ supersport, BUT after a year, they make an R model for their cars. The only acception is the X-Type, which, they were making, but never produced it. They might not make an R, but I did hear from a Jaguar representative at the concourse "remember that after a year, they always make an R model". The only thing Im confused about, is what would they do to the R? The supersport already has the supercharger....
