As a first time hoem buyer I told my realestate agent that I will say no to any house with HOA. That was 2 years ago, I bought a house on a half acre just over the county line. I have the school in my back yard if I have kids, My neighbors are awsome (they never complain), we don't see police in this area, are home valuse are still the same as they were during the boom. This is not an HOA neighborhood, we are perfectly fine.

I lived at a Condominium that was run by a Gestapo like HOA. I rented from the wannabe owner who would never own the supposed slice of paradise. I was harassed by the staff that managed the oceanfront property constantly. There was no assigned parking, but I could not park my vehicles in certain spaces that were "reserved" for the gestapo favorites. There was constant nonsense for the many years I leased there. The Board was scum. The gestapo wannabe owners were scum. Very few nice people there.

I bought my first house 1.75 years ago NOT in HOA. It is a nice house on 1/2 acre of county property with a price of $145,000.

I do not regret it one bit, I get to do what ever I want to it.

My neighbors don't complain, we have less crime then the HOA's and I don't have to stress over my house all the time.

I like to live in a community of individuals, every person here can bring their own ideas to life and it is what makes it feel like home and not just a house.

I am 100% against HOA.

Where I live, there are almost no homes without HOA. They do have those communities but they are the ghettos of this city. My home is over $350,000 and in a really nice area, but I am not exactly able to afford a $600,000 home where they would potentially eave you alone. The short-sell home you bought was probably a home that was taken from a good family by yet another bully- the bank. They tried to do it to me - force me into foreclosure or short sale, but I fought for it...

Great video! I hate HOAs, I live in one, the president is a lawyer and local police are involved with the HOA board. I have two dogs, but only one pet is allowed per home, I was told to put one of my dogs to sleep. Last year someone poisoned my dog, she almost died, and cost thousands of dollars to save her. I was born and raised in America, but am no longer interested in living here and am leaving ASAP to a non-HOA country with a low crime rate.

Ask them to clarify their position by providing you and explanation and documents authorizing them to make such a request and also ask to see where you specifically agreed on a dog policy with the association. It my be a good start and can get them off your back for a while. Good luck

@PlagiarizedBible It's not the agents fault. People who want to be homeowners need to take some responsibility and find out easy information themselves. In addition, it's listed on the HUD 1 statement. Read your contracts before you sign them and you can avoid a lot of your problems. HOAs aren't the enemy; people who don't want to do what they are supposed to do are the enemy.

Ok. So this might be an ignorant question, BUT is an HOA the same thing as a Property Management? If so, I don't think that these orgs apply to me. I live in a small town of about 200, 000 or less. I've seen mail from this organization and I know that the city gets on to 'owners' if the lawn isn't mowed and meter men are sent in etc. This kind of organization is something I haven't noticed, but am not an owner myself.
