Is it still possible to access Bloody Nose Ridge? What is left of the airfield where the Japanese tank attack took place on the day of the landings? Are remains still found at Pelelieu? thanks!
to all complaining about the music being disrespectful please note this is a video highlighting there holiday. I don't know what holidays Americans and Japanese people have but i go on a holiday to have fun not to mourn the death of people i don't know of course i respect the actions of all allied ww2 soliders fighting to protect there country but sadly it's not always my top priority.
What kind of music is this? A happy video where so many lost their lives, and those who lived suffered like no other. Puhleeze...what's wrong with you?
thanks for sharing, what an honor to actually walk on such sacred ground.I served in the military during peace time, don't know how I would have handled doing what these brave men had to do.god bless our fighting men and woman.
The music might sound celebratory, no disrespect to those who fought that fierce war. However, I view this video in gratitude and to celebrate the freedom that we (americans, japanese & palauans) enjoy now because of the effort at the time. I remember the "it was" & celebrate the "it is".
I thought that it was a pretty good video. I would love to tour these battlefields being a former active duty Marine who loves history. There is still ordanace lying around on every island in the Pacific Campaign, except maybe Okinawa, but I know Iwo still has remenents of the battle on it and so does Tarawa.
most, if not all, of us who grew up in beliliou know what happened and respect it. my grandfather sets off the alarms at airports because of bullet fragments and shrapnel. we grew up collecting unexploded ordinances and ammunition. sure, from an outsider who doesn't understand palauan, this song might appear lacking. but from someone who speaks and understands it fluently, there's nothing wrong with it. granted, you could have picked a much better song, but hey, props to you.
@endodaze actually youre an idiot because you live in the u.s. the greatest country in the world it shows it on your page and im sure that music is appropriate if you know palaun even though i dont know how to speak palaun also you didnt pick up debris because the millitary has people that collect ordanance and brass from used rounds trust me my dad has a phd and use to teach history now hes a principal in texas and he could teach college but hes getting payed more right now where he works at
@NullArc555 dude, i'm palauan. i grew up there; i'm only in US for school. if you actually believe that the military picked up every single one, then you're as dumb as i think. i can show you spots in caves that the military missed that has human remains and ordinances. these guys' guide, his full name is tangerkoi, "tangie" for short. i don't know why the US, being the greatest country in the world, and your dad having a phd in history has to do with this video. this IS beliliou, aka, peleliu
@endodaze k then i can believe some ordinance is still there and i have to say im sorry because i seriously though you werent palauan thank you for correcting me the us schools dont talk that much about palau but i study the battle a lot thank you and no disrespect toward you or palau
@endodaze Hay im planing a 2012 trip to peleliu and will spend 3 weeks exploreing let me know where the best places are and bunker/caves that i can explore
thats no way peleliu probably one of the other palau islands if you new anything abou it peleliu is pretty much a chunk of coral limestone and palm trees
i thought it was interesting to see Peleliu in modern times. However i did turn the volume down. the music seemed more like a Hawaiian or Caribian vacation music than a place that has seen such horrible things as Peleliu. but thanks for sharing your pictures/videos of the island
this my island thank you very much man, you my friend travel alot. you should take me man. i want to got to yap and palau but im going at christmas this year
This is video such a joke. It reflects a typical tourist's understanding of the battle. The music contributes to the party atmosphere of the "tour". While the maker might have been thinking he was doing honor, he failed miserably. This was such a wasted attempt.
I need not have a video to validate my opinion of this one. The music of this video is no different than having the sound track to Disney's "The Jungle Book" accompanying a documentary about the Battle of Gettysburg. "Let's all have fun and understand nothing!"
I suggest you read EB Sledge's book, With The Old Breed, to get a better idea of the battle. You won't be humming happy songs when you are finished.
@Shipskeel I completely agree. The happy song while looking at the burnt and blasted amtracs really rubs me to wrong way. Peleliu is a grave for more than 15000 human beings, many of whom are entombed in the caves. It's nice to see that the island has recvered so nicely, but the horror endured by both sides deserves awe and respect.
My dad was in the First Marine division that was part of that invasion of Peleliu. When he was still alive he would occasionally tell me some stories about what he went through, but he never really got into a lot of detail, and I understood why, I never pushed the issue unless he was in a mood that day to talk about it. A lot of pain stayed in his memory after all those years. Thanks for posting.
@mixerd0822 Hey there mixer and thank you for the kind words. Oh yes definitely proud of my dad. I wish he was still here. Its sad how many of the WWII men are dying everyday. Have a great day!!
My dad was there in 1944, Marines 1st div.. Don't think it was as pretty.
