@berkinbuoy DX10 is a graphics api that comes with the operating system. Windows xp has DX9. Windows Vista runs DX9 and DX10 games. Windows 7 runs DX9, DX10, and DX11 games. That is when they come out with DX11 games.

Setting frame rate to unlimited is a waste, as all anyone needs is a steady 30-40FPS, setting a limit, free's more resources for the computer to use, and FSX is more of a CPU based version, than previous versions.

FSX requires for "smooth" gameplay atleast a 3.6GHz CPU, it doesnt really matter about Dual or Quad core. Its the speed that the processor is able to run the simulator at. It literally is the faster the better!

you do realise fraps slows the thing down.

cameras are the only easy way to show the true performance (you could also hook up a dvd player that can record dvds to a tv and have that set as its input, but thats a lot of hassle)

I do not want to spend over $1500...actually....I want to stay just over $1000. Anyway, I think I am going to settle on FS2004. With add-ons, it looks just as good as FSX.

Yeah, i would definitely agree, just go with FS2004 with a few add ons. I can get great framerates out of it. The only thing I don't like about FS2004 is that all of the missions are like a million hours long, and i like the short fun ones of FSX.

As for the $1500 budget, i wish you the best of luck, i dont know what computer upgrades go for now, but back when i was an avid computer gamer that would get me a processor and maybe a video card. :(

btw, you might be able to keep steady framerate, if you moved it from "unlimited" b/c all one really needs is 30FPS, that's the highest FPS in any movie, NTSC is in fact 29.97, PAL is 25.

its wen your disc processor is, whence the name: "micro-threaded" which means that it can basically read discs faster and process them quicker and more efficiently :) hope that helps....
