great song,. But today's London town is not the same as 20 yrs ago....Carnaby street 2011 is full of east-european beggars, scammers and pickpockets...Thanks Mr.Gorbachev :-(
There is now a uke arrangement of this great song at scorpexdotnet/Uke. You can play it on an Islander Chord Master or Arthur Godfrey Uke Player if you have one (plastic uke fans will know what I am talking about).
I am not proud to say that I was the agent who let all those great shops in Carnaby street to tourist tatt sellers. They were great when you could buy 19th Century militaria for a fiver.
@Masterkavi They were booths with speakers. You'd go in there to listen to songs before you bought the records (Or just to listen to them, if you were broke!! LOL)
"It wasn't a person I was writing about, but a particular group of people, like the trendies. The ting that annoyed me is that they're not the only people like that. Everybody does things because other people do them, whether they think it's right or not. It's as broad a thing as that." Ray said.
At 1:22 this video, filmed in LONDON, (in case you don't recognize St Pauls Cath), breifly shows a pre-John Lennon YOKO ONO eading something on a pad of paper. John Lennon claims he met Yoko at Yoko in November 0f 1966. A Dedicated Follower was released in Febuary 1966. Yoko since late 1965, had been in London to collect original rock music scores for author John Cage (according to Paul MaCartney) I wonder if she got one from Ray Davies? Lennon gave her "The Word"...and a lot more!
@under5 That's right, and did I see the King's Road somewhere in there? !!! I was there this Xmas and it has changed SO much! ahh those were the days!
As the devoted Stone Roses fan that i am, I need to be reminded that there were bands that did really brillant stuff like this. The Kinks were brillant. A great tune.
