  • i wish i watched this b4 doing push ups...now my arms are jellyyy

  • 1:16 do i have to do that :3

  • ur hot

  • @genghisgirl: u do the push ups wrong, your arms are much to far away from your body. They have to be near the body and your arms should only be bead seat wide, maybe a little wider ;-)

  • @ahai1968 There are many different ways to do pushups - each working different muscle groups. I'm demonstrating a wide pushups in this video. Thanks for posting your comment!

  • @genghisgirl yeah well, that's true, you can do them in several different ways, but you could have been mentioned the wider your shoulders the easier the push ups. So thats why I still try to keep my arms/elbows close to my body. Even though, nice vid, keep recordin - I'll stay tunjed ;-)

  • @ahai1968 Totally! Close grip pushups - I call them yoga pushups :) - are way harder... this video is meant for beginners, and I want to start them off with moves that aren't too intimidating. Thanks again for watching. xo

  • Is your name "genghisgirl" because of the Genghis Grill? I LOVE THAT PLACE.

  • @bekasoftballgirl Haha, no... it's after my first cat, Genghis, a big orange tabby.

  • This is super helpful! I SUCK at push-ups but now that I know how to ease into it, hopefully I'll get better. I want Angela Bassett arms. :)

  • @Jaznellow You can do it! She has awesome arms! xo

  • TO THE WALL!

    >:D

  • Will this make me better at planking?

  • @arktnas I'm pretty sure doing nothing at all is the best training for planking ;)

  • @bananacreampie8 The best way to become a better runner is to learn how to control your breath... try yoga!

  • @genghisgirl Yoga teaches you how to match your breath with your movement... I was able to run farther, faster, and with less fatigue after practicing yoga. Try it! xo

  • I can't do push ups.. T^T I can't do them right..i fall..

  • she bad as fuck!

  • Hi Bex, a small one. I look in front when I do push ups, but in your video I noticed that you are looking down at the floor. Which one is better?

  • @taniari100 Good question! Your body should be straight from the crown of your head to your heels. Don't look up or hang your head down, because you'll put extra strain on your neck.

  • X_X!

  • Hello. I've been trying to do push-ups for some weeks. My chest still can't get close to the floor. When it does, i fall. What can I do about it? Thanks :)

  • @thesolaceseeker totally! when you hold your body straight like a plank, you're working your entire core.

  • likE ThiS IF u ThiNk iT WAZ uSe Fulll

  • y i am 14 quite ashamed but seeing this vidoe made me do better :/ i wan do every subject and life better for me so tq for ur vidoe that i can learn more :)

  • Wow, thank you. I don't know what it was about the other videos but I was just not getting it. Thanks for sharing!!!!

  • i have never seen this before!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1:01 Ill save that for my girlfriend..

  • @victore12387 lmfao!

  • were you in the military because you make this look easy!!!!??

  • Omg...thank you so much! I will try it this way. How about pull ups? I've never been able to do not 1 single pull up.

  • I recommend handle bars! They're ceap as shit and they'll provent your wrists from gettin' damaged! You shouldn't do to many push ups without these, because its an unnatural and very harmful position for your hands and wrists... Just my opinion about that... Nice tutorial anyway :)

  • @swissfa18 How much is it?

  • @piggypops78 dirt cheap! 'Bout 10-15 bucks for a pair ! I though have to say, that they make the push ups way harder to do, since you have less surface to put your weight on... But your joints will be very very grateful and it's about the worst thing you can do, damaging your body with exercices! Greetings and keep the good work up!

  • @B525shot Thank you for the info.

  • @B525shot Are you sure they are called handle bars? Because i just checked online and all i saw were handle bars for bikes. ?

  • Hello there I was wondering if you could answer this one question.

If I don't do a full push up, meaning that my chest doesn't go all the way down close to the ground, will I still be able to build muscle or will it cause any side effects?

And also whenever my chest goes closer to the ground, I lose strenght and will be unable to support myself and thus falling. So I would appreaciate if you gave me some tips thanks

  • @ICESURFER200 Think of the benefits this way: the closer you get your chest to the floor, the bigger the benefit - 100%. However, if you're only going halfway down, you're still getting benefits - 50%. Do what you can and improve with time. You're still building strength and muscle as long as you're putting in maximum effort. In time, you'll get a greater benefit by first doing the full pushup and then increasing reps. Hope this helps! - Bex

  • Thanks!!! I watched this video two days ago when I couldn't do a single pushup LOL Now I can do up to 10! Progress is definitely showing :)

  • @PaulinaMei Awesome! Thanks for sharing :)

  • this was theeeee bessstttttt video on how to do a push up....thanks!!!!!!!

  • She can do more push ups then me...

  • 9 people are fat

  • man caN U MAKE A VIDEO ON GREAT KID OR TEEN WORK OUT THAT U CAN DO DAILY OR WEEKLY

  • this was really helpfull:) tnx nd i am only 11 years old and i casn doo 300 push ups in 1 hour

  • how should i breath while doing pushups??

i mean should inhale while going down or while coming up?

  • @hammad2020i In bodybuilding you would exhale on the push, and in yoga you would inhale on the extension. Either way is fine. You may find it easier to exhale on the push to give you a little burst of energy or strength. The most important thing is to control your breathing and match your breath with your movement. Thanks for commenting :)

  • @genghisgirl thanks... for the upload and the advice :)

  • is it better to try and do like 10 push-ups but not all the way to the ground or just try and work 1 or 2 good ones? (clearly for begginers...) :) i started already doing them on the floor so i.m gonna keep at it until i see some results :D ..if not i'll probablly switch to an elevated surface or something for my hands:) so thanks for the tips! have a ncie day:) xx

  • @automaticlov3r I would rather perfect my form for a greater amount of reps on an elevated surface. If you can only do a couple on the floor, that's awesome! Just do those 1 or 2 on the floor and 8 more on an elevated surface. Increase the number of floor reps and decrease the elevated reps as time goes on. Thanks for the question!!

  • i'll try it !! i've difficulties to do push-ups XD thanks

  • so should i start 20 every night?

  • You know quite a bit more than me, but I've seen a few other peoples videos on push-ups and your arms seem quite a bit wider than other video makers arms are. Just a thought does this help? not do any difference or even damage your arms? thanks:)x

  • @MERCER12OLI Good question! There are several different types of pushups that each work different muscle groups. Generally, the closer your hands are to your body, the more difficult the movement. Because this is a beginner video, I demonstrated with pushup with a wider hand stance. Thanks for posting :) - Bex

  • @genghisgirl this is the first time i have ever done pushups...then after i watch the video...i follow the same way you did..now my spine hurts !!!!!

  • iam 14 years old and i can do 51 diamond pushups but now i can do 45 times why cannot i do 51 times any more??

  • Is it normal for your lower back to be a little sore after doing pushups? I'm kind of new to them and I try to keep my back straight, but sometimes it dips in.

  • @starbreakers5000 Building your core strength with exercises like planks will eventually help to relieve lower back pain. It's normal that it hurts, but you shouldn't push through pain. Give it a rest, do some core-building workouts, and try a less intense version of the push-up. You'll be able to keep your body straighter as you get stronger. Thanks for watching! xo Bex

  • @ApitStore email me with your country, and I'll quote you on shipping: genghisgirl@hotmail[dot]com

  • does this help for beginners to do a standard push ups in future?

  • @2912555 Yes! Exactly :)

  • THANKS!!

  • will this also help me to build the whole muscle on my arm? Like not only on biceps/triceps? I mean from hands, to the lower elbow and to the shoulder?

  • arent your arms suppost to be more closed in not that wide

  • @jssc0000 this is a repost of a former reply, but here it goes again :) - There are many ways to perform push-ups - standard, wide-stance, diamond, elevated, close-stance (or yoga pushup) - that benefit different areas of your upper body muscles. You should modify the exercise to achieve your individual goals.

  • true ...shes justtt tooo hottt...wowwwwwww

  • ...wow baby if u let me hit that id rock your world =] hottest grl alive

  • which of these methods is best for a torso heavy person? ive been able to shake wieght in my arms and legs but my stomach and chest refuse to loose the wieght and i think pushups will help my chest at least im getting better at situps so that should cover the stomach.

  • @castledragonsword Pushups develop muscle, but will not help you lose weight. The same goes for the shake weight and other weights. Exercise the raising your heart rate (cardio) and diet are the best ways to burn fat. I always say that eating a clean diet is 90% of the equation in losing weight.

  • if you want a six pack go to the section for pop in walmart....

  • i am not worried about push ups ,but u r damn hot

  • Thank you, these steps are very helpful. I am trying to do push ups and i find it very hard. My upper body is not strong.

  • @BusyBeingFabulous I'm glad the video works for you... thanks for watching! xo Bex

  • Your hands are way too far apart, for a greater muscle workout you need to have your hands closer together

  • @GutterStomper There are many ways to perform push-ups - standard, wide-stance, diamond, elevated, close-stance (or yoga pushup) - that benefit different areas of your upper body muscles. You should modify the exercise to achieve your individual goals.

  • AWESOMEEE !

  • Hey, do push ups work on your abs as well as your arms????

    plz respond

  • @owlman113 Full push ups are great for your entire core (including your abs and lower back). In order to keep your body straight like a plank during the exercise, your core should be engaged. Make sure that you're not lifting your butt too high or sinking your hips when you perform push ups.

  • @genghisgirl

thx, i did 85 last night in quaters, going for 100 tonight, thx btw for responding

  • 1:41 stop kissing the wall...

  • can i request some thing can you teach some yoga moves

  • u forgot one hand pushup

  • great vid :)

  • You should not really preform push-ups on your palm this can cause damage to your wrist, its safer to go on your knuckles or use push up handles. Good Video though

  • @KodiakHunter13 if you train your wrists, like I do in my yoga practice, you should have no issues. in yoga, I can sometimes be on my wrists like that for over an hour.

  • @genghisgirl Yeah You have a point with the yoga, but you should maybe let people know to use their knuckles because the majority of people dont practice yoga.

  • @KodiakHunter13 I think you just did :)... but personally, I wouldn't ever do push-ups on my knuckles and I'm not a fan of props as a exercise requirement. If your wrists are placed directly under your shoulders, no added strain should be felt.

  • @genghisgirl Ohh I see, I must try that then thanks alot

  • What's up clevage!

  • Thanks....;0)

  • 1:34 look forward dont look down! Will you be my gf?

  • Great vid!! Wonderful tips and I totally agree about the knee pushups sucking!

  • @jtyner6 Haha! They don't TOTALLY suck... I do use them from time to time with clients. I just think they're terrible for learning how to do true pushups. And I'm COMPLETELY against the term "lady pushups". Who thought of that one? My mom totally kicks ass, I kick ass, and my daughter kicks ass. I say "psssh" to "lady pushups"!

  • Hey rock on gal you did the video awesome! great way to help people who are beginers. thanks heaps Bex!

  • @gothdolly84 No problem! I'm always looking for new ideas and requests ;)

  • Thank you so much for this!! I've been doing the "lady pushups" and I hate them! Can't wait to give your suggestions a try!

  • @NewCarisa "lady pushups" grrrrrrrr!!! haha. I tell the guys at the gym "last time I checked, I'm a lady - with three kids to prove it... stop calling them that!". using an elevated surface works SO much better... even against the wall is great. then bump it down a few inches each week. you'll be on the floor like a superhero in no time!

  • 1:37 Cheeese!

  • ooo that's a good trick for where to place your hands on the floor thanks!

...I take it you do mostly inverted pushups :) lol

  • i think i can do the wall ones. thanks for the ideas. waves~~

  • @crosspecans thought of you on that one ;)

  • OMG! I LOVE that chair...and your form of course! :-)

  • GREAT VIDEO

  • thank you so much i will try it

  • Thanks! It would be great if you can do a vid for pull ups as well.

  • @MizAlexandria Great idea! It's harder to prepare for pull-ups outside of a gym atmosphere, but I'm sure I already have tons of clips that would be helpful.

  • Great advice. However for the yoga pushup you are required to keep your elbows in close to your body and the shoulders may not roll forward. Very hard for this tall girl.

  • @koaislove You're totally right... I love yoga pushups for triceps! This was a quick 15-minute session I whipped together before lunch... sometimes they're not so perfect ;) I'm 5'11", so I can definitely relate.

  • Thank you! so helpful, push-ups are mad hard for me!

  • @ChasetheSublime They're mad hard for EVERYONE at first. I remember not being able to do two in a row. Practice, practice, practice... it's really an awesome simple exercise.

  • Impressive
