  • What's the name of this gesture/tweak?

  • Glad to say this has been realized in the form of Zephyr, made by chpwn. I've just installed it and it seems to be working quite well! Looking forward to trying this concept for real on a daily basis. Zephyr is available in Cydia for jailbroken phones and costs $3. I had no involvement in the development, so please give any feedback directly to chpwn.

  • ATTENTION this feature is available on Cydia! Search tweak called "zephyr".

  • they've implemented it at the top of the iphone with the new notifications screen...i don't see any reason why they can just do the opposite.

  • wouldnt it be really annoying if you accidentaly open the drawer while scrolling down a webpage or somethin'?

  • i qq gg tt uuu solve it

  • touche!

  • i could double tap my home button until i took an arrow to the knee.

  • I've set Activator to single-tab-on-status-bar to do this :)

  • I'm totally with you maxrudberg as I have the same problems and it gets really irritating, but Daiode has got a valid point. :S

  • You can set up custom gestures on your iPhone if you have iOS 5. Just sayin. :P

  • Dear Apple. My home button is fucked up!

  • Hmm... Nokia N9 swipe? anyone?

    /watch?v=JJ-IlW8Vcrw

  • @4everskyline718 nope thanks

  • @4everskyline718 shit up

  • @4everskyline718

With Zephyr from Cydia you can open the multitasking like this but when closing you simply just have to tap the homescreen. Zephyr also makes the "Nokia N9 swipe" available.

  • assertive touch button is solution create for less responsive physical home button? anyway, keep it up max you're doing some good job!

  • This is cool but it may interfere with the swiping gestures on some apps and games, I would put the multitasking bar in the notification centre as a interactive widget.

  • not a big deal, i've already been using multifl0w along with activator's slide in gesture for a while now

  • hehe! This is simply a FAIL! But because it's apple, people are arguing whether to have it as an optional! at the same time confusing via different devices with 4 and 5 finger swipe. This is really a big disappointment from the company that count itself as driving innovation! Which innovation exactly?

  • Some have pointed out that you can get a similar solution on a jailbroken iPhone with activator. However, that solution is not exactly the same as this concept. It uses the gesture as an activator, ie you swipe up from the bottom of the screen, and then the multitasking drawer is brought up. A key for this to work well is to have the multitasking drawer show as you're moving your finger onto the screen. This would make it easy to correct a potential accidental activation as well.

  • can be done by ACTIVATOR (Slide from Bottom Screen>Activate Switcher) @rpetrich

  • @pw5a29 no it can't, if u use activator to do this, then it will just all come up at once, while it will still bring up the bar, it won't do it quite how he was thinking about it

  • @Jdizzle2211 you mean the animation? yep I think so, you're right

  • redemondpie sent me...

  • This is how webOS has always implemented multitasking. A bezel-up flick shows all your "cards", same as iOS's "drawer". /watch?v=c20uhGxSxWo

  • Use Activator for jailbroken iphone.

  • Not bad i like this idea.

  • Activator can do this.

    Slide in from bottom.

  • Guys if you want this gesture you can get it now. All you need is the third party app activator from cydia. From that point you go choose anywhere>slide in gesture [from screen bottom]> and pick activate switcher. Simple and amazing indeed.

  • this would be fantastic. however the closest thing to this right now is the "multitasking gestures" that you can install on cydia (basically the multitasking gestures on iPad, but on iPhone) works flawlessly for me, except sometimes my fingers may be a bit too big considering it requires you to use at least 4 fingers.....but fair enough

  • I hope is comes to cydia soon, cuze this shitty home bottom peace if crap not work az well !

  • Well either this or they could put the multitasking in the notification center

  • If enough people send feedback to Apple on their iPhone feedback page they might implement this. I've done it anyway. Nice work.

  • Gute Idee ! 👍

  • Cool

  • It's a no brainer to be honest. I'm actually surprised Apple hasn't implemented this gesture already.

  • Be sure to read the full description under the Show more link. Similar to this concept, also check out Notification Center transition.

  • To clarify further how this would work: You'd have to activate to most bottom row of pixels on the screen and then move it up. A drag from the bottom of the screen would not do. This method of activation has proved a successful interaction on other devices, such as the Playbook (although the PB has not been successful in other aspects, at least thus far).

This is very important as I think it would make all the difference.

Another key aspect is immediate response from the GUI.

  • Espier launcher had this long ago...

  • lol brilliant

  • So elegant. So awesome. It's something that I've been asking for, ever since the Home button died on my old iPhone 4.

Double-tapping to bring the tray up, has decimated many a Home button.

    Make it happen, Forstall!

  • In stock iOS 5 on iPad 2, swipe from bottom with 4 fingers... Doesn't it work on iPhones ?

  • @enetter No. It would be very hard to fit four fingers on the iPhone screen, and you often use it with just one hand.

  • @enetter it works with 4 fingers. but as @maxrudberg said, it's hard fitting them.

  • I agree. When my phone was jailbroken, I had this gesture configured. From the bottom right emulated a doublempress of the home button. From the bottom left emulated a single press. If you're not averse to jailbreaking have a JB-able device, I highly recommend using activator to set that up. Since I got my (non-jailbreakable) iPhone 4S it's annoying having to use the home button all the time.

  • @wirtraumen I can't get the gesture to work from iOS 3, iOS 4 and iOS 5.

  • @Daiode It would basically be the same as pulling down for Notification Center.

  • Cool, but would this work outside the home screen?, I wonder if this press and move up might interfere with apps that also use a similar input mechanic. (Drawing apps, Angry birds when pulling back the catapult or Fruit Ninja etc).

Just thinking out loud really, maybe it can be smart enough to know that you start the gesture 'off screen and then move finger onto the screen'... I wonder about the rumour that Apple where considering a touch area in & around the home button (or home button itself)

  • @Daiode I think it needs to be an option, with the default set to off.

  • @maxrudberg in iOS 6.0 beta 1 in 2012

  • @Daiode I imagine it might work the same way the gesture for displaying the Notification Center works while you are in a game: When you swipe from the top of the screen, it displays a little "tab" that you can pull down.

  • @Daiode in apps it could be solved like notification centre that there is first the lap... but as an option to activate it would be great!

  • absolutely

  • agreed

  • I concur!
