  • Hello Merlin9071,and I'm Leonardo.....I left Shanghai in March 1949,ending up in Hong

Kong, where I stayed for three years, before coming to England......I have been back to

see the old city once,in 1999,for five days.....and,of course,it brought back to me,a flood of memories.....such a long time ago....Don't worry, your English is pretty good....better than my Chinese !....Good luck to you....best wishes !

  • I especially like the first song used in this video. The second one, "Yie Lai Shan", I already am familiar with because it was popular in Japan in about 1950, of course sung in Japanese.

  • I was born in Shanghai Nov.1931,of mixed parentage....Spanish/Filipino/Chinese/

Portuguese/Indian....educated in local French Catholic school....and,like all the kids

born and/or bred in that great city....you automatically picked up the Shanghainese

language, even without proper tuition.....especially after nearly 18 years' residency.

By the way.....All my best to you,Merlin9071 !

  • 2:49 wow that's just beautiful!

  • Shanghai.....my birthplace.....and,like those people who were born there,or who were

brought up in that city,so many years ago.....I'm sure they will NEVER forget.....city of

a thousand nationalities, who basically got on with each other.....so much nostalgia,

and memories.....There'll never be another Shanghai, like that of the thirties, and forties !

  • Shanghai - the city of my birth in 1941 which I remember vaguely . Had to leave there in 1949. Very nostalgic.

  • It is not communist in Shanghai ,,it is free enterprize,,commenting on some remarks below V love the song ,,real Shanghai is the song ,,

  • Love old Shanghai, Shanghai might keep in that way till now without Communist. Fukin Communist. get the hell out old Shanghai..

  • I agree with flowerpowerzz!! I always read novels n watch drama series abt the old shanghai,,i wish i could travel back to the 1930s Shanghai.. such a legendary era.

  • Thanks :) . I have always dreamed of what Shanghai must have been like back in these days ! I've been reading novels which are set in the time period of the 20's and 30's. If only I could time~travel....well, I feel as if I got to a little bit through your video !
