This is amazing. Marching Out is my favorite Yngwie CD; the first time I heard this a few months back was my intro to Howie SImon. Dude is flying on the guitar. As others have said this appears to be VERY close to what Yngwie played.
This is amazing. Marching Out is my favorite Yngwie CD; the first time I heard this a few months back was my intro to Howie SImon. Dude is flying on the guitar.
I just saw Yngwie a few months ago, and he seriously played about 1 million notes for 2:30 hours. He was rippin' it up the entire night, and was fast and articulate. I was really surprised by his stamina and showmanship. Ripper sucked ass, and he should have kept JSS.
Watched Howie play guitar for Graham Bonnet last week at the NAMM show, fucking tore it up. He's the real deal. Go see him play live, then talk the shit..................
lol you're funny; however he may have a point. Yngwie's playing didn't set him apart (after the initial headstart he had) what really set him apart is his composition; he was the only, and for the most part still is, guitarist to play a baroque style of playing. everything that he did is strictly in key, perfect modality, etc. He studied paganini, bach, and other classical composers, which gives him that distinctive sound that I love.
Some "old men" on here have no life, posting comments about people young enough to be their son. Wasn't there a creepy guy on NBC's "To Catch a Preditor" with the screen name Topicat?
Come ON... who IS Yngwie?... thats like saying Dougie White is as good as Jeff Scott Soto... get Real man.. nobody is Yngwie... and your observation is rather trivial. Say something ingenious and i'll say wow...
here you can see they are real friends and just normal guys and musicians - would be great fun makin' music with them. not that fuckin' posing and selfish stuff yngwie does on stage.
the scream in the beginning of ill see the light tonight i believe is the best heavy metal scream i have ever heard! JSS is, and will always be, number 1 for me.
I like his voice better now on the low end, but its a shame to see so many great singers from that period that cant hit the same ranges anymore. If youre going to attemt to do the studio solo version note for note do it well:(
Um....have you heard the original version? Give or take 1 or 2 notes, this is exactly what Yngwie played. Watch the Live '85 video...almost exact. What a really stupid comment.
@KillerMcGinty I agree. I'm VERY critical of players covering Yngwie songs. Howie Simon NAILED the solos almost note for note. One thing to keep in mind is that Yngwie himself doesnt play his solos the exact same every night. He has and continues to say this in interviews with various guitar magazines. Howie Simon is able to do what very few guitarists (including Steve Vai) cannot do, which is play the Yngwie's songs with precision.
@haluunnaista ever heard Yngwie play live? He almost NEVER plays the same thing he does on the album version except for the main melodies to songs, and even those he adds his changes to live. Listen to the dozens of live versions of Far Beyond The Sun if you need any proof. There aren't 2 that are the same, and that's a fact.
If anything, Yngwie is more guilty of your "meaningless shred" accusation than Howie Simon is, so why don't you educate yourself before you talk out of your ass next time.
Yngwie is a Legend. This Simon the how how is not. I bet there are people in the audience who´s out there to hear these Yngwie songs. It´s nice to see that someone really answers these 100+ year old comments. Then I´m like " Wow , did I really say that ! "
