Andrew Lloyd will go down in Australian sporting memories as the GREATEST come from behind victory ever in athletics...Simply he believed the dream !!!
I hate drug cheats too but this is way too harsh an assessment of Ngugi. The Kenyan association had not told their athletes about the new out of competition testing. Ngugi, who was in the Kenyan Army, had foreign strangers turn up on his doorstep wanting a urine sample. Not sursprisingly he refused.
Lloydie beat everyone. This was a field that included the 1989 world's fastest (Ondieki), the European Champion (Buckner), an Olympic steeple medallist (Rowland), future World 10,000champ (Tanui) and of course Olympic champ Ngugi. Lloydie had 3.36 1500 speed, and could also run 2.14 in the marathon.
It may not have been an Olympics, or even a showdown between immortal combatants of the 5000m distance - but THIS, is arguably the most exciting, dramatic and unbelievable moment in the history of middle distance running. It is absolutely epic.
Eveyt time I need to be motivated, I watch this race.....In the words of Churchill.."never never surrender".

Ngugi was a drug cheat!!!!! He refused to take an out of comp drug test and announced his retirement coincidentally!

Stunning race, didn't see it live but listened on ABC radio and Tim Lane's commentary probably the best individual race commentary I've ever heard!

Just the one rating - 5 stars / excellent, is that you Lloydy? This was great stuff but you have to watch both parts.
